Re: Eto To Launch Own Mobile Network In Cameroon by Nobody: 11:31am On Dec 30, 2011
Anzhi Makhachkala forward Samuel Eto’o has set up a mobile network in his homeland Cameroon meant to create cheap access to communication for the population, while becoming the third mobile network operator in the central African nation behind French-owned Orange Telecom and South Africa-based multinational MTN. Eto'o Set’Mobile was launched on Thursday in Yaounde with more than 50,000 SIM cards already sold out, but the network will be activated on January 21, which is the opening day of the 2012 Africa Cup of Nations, the entity’s management said. With a capital base of 100 millions francs cfa (€152,449), Set’Mobile, which also bears the initials of the famous Anzhi striker, is intended to provide mobile Internet service alongside telephony. The market penetration for mobile network in Cameroon is currently at 49 per cent below the fast growing rate of 75% in Cote D’Ivoire, Senegal and Ghana, which local observers see as enough room for the survivability of Eto’o’s new venture against stiff competition from giants Orange and MTN. Eto’o is serving out a 15-match ban after he was found guilty by the Cameroon FA disciplinary committee of instigating a strike action that botched up a friendly match against Algeria on November 15. The players said the action was to protest against the non- payment of match bonuses and a dysfunctional system. The 30-year-old four-time African footballer of the year had declined to appeal the ruling and will likely miss much of the Lions’ qualifying campaign for the 2013 Afcon and 2014 World Cup.

Commendable, at least this one is not setting up a night club ala Yobo and Okocha etc. Will help develop his country.

What else can be said about this dude --- Samuel Eto'o Fils --- a true African legend; Lion Heart in every sense of the word.

Even if the business flops in the end, but just the fact that he even thought of it shows you he is alive to what is happening in his country, he feels the pulse of the people and wants to make a change.

Re: Eto To Launch Own Mobile Network In Cameroon by aikuda(m): 2:23pm On Dec 30, 2011
@NemekGee,
you took the words out of my mouth. This is classic Nigerian thinking: Ours is bad and theirs is good. we have serious insecurity. I am sure f Okocha has the money he would have buit an aircraft company or refinery.

Re: Eto To Launch Own Mobile Network In Cameroon by LEXYLOV: 2:39pm On Dec 30, 2011
That is some1 who have his right sense working like a clock. He is far different from some of our brothers who invested their wealth on private jets, exotic cars , 100ms mansions or castles etc. Such type of business is generations to come benefit and it is a money making machine. Kudos to Eto. smiley

Re: Eto To Launch Own Mobile Network In Cameroon by Ifemyke: 3:53pm On Dec 30, 2011
God bless you my African brother. Anyway, this is not the first time he has shown patriotism. You can recall when he singly bought watches
for all the players to motivate them. Nigerian players think and believe that the only biz is clubbing.
Meanwhile, arsene wenger has confirmed the two month loan deal with henry.
