New York Times Opinion: Another Jaundiced View About Nigeria. by kulutempa: 4:38pm On Jan 10, 2012
Just came across a New York Times Op-Ed about the crisis in Nigeria. The article seems fairly balanced until I came across the following paragraph

The fears of corruption are absolutely understandable, but glimmers of hope — that this time will be different — are also in the air. When Nigeria won relief on its external debt in the mid-2000s, the savings on debt service were actually redirected to meaningful social investments in the states and local governments.

Here is the full article: http://www.nytimes.com/2012/01/11/opinion/nigeria-hurtles-into-a-tense-crossroad.html

I am just sick and tired of these Westerners who do not have a clue about the situation in Nigeria, touting themselves as "African experts" and writing nonsensical articles such as this in the Western press. Maybe I am wrong but if anyone is aware of any meaningful social investments in the states and local governments which were derived from savings on debt service please do let us know. If there is no such evidence then it would mean that this is another article on Nigeria written an ignoramus or a paid hack.

@ OP

Why I perfectly understand your anger but you still have to remember that these 'ignoramuses' do not stay this country with us, they only based thier write-up on the 'facts' that are presented to them by our most excellence corrupt leaders. It is these leaders that we have to channel our anger toward, not the far onlookers who had only echoed the silence voices of the propaganda spread abroad by our own flesh and blood!

@OP

What did you expect them to write? They get 25% of their crude from Nigeria and our hoodlums called politicians deposit their STOLEN money in western banks.

They are simply after their interest. As far as they are concern, we monkeys can kill each other. After all, it is black on black crime.

Was a pretty solid article imo. Not perfect, but pretty good.
