They call AD a tribalist party.

They call Afenifere useless Elders.

They cajoled the electorates in Yorubaland that "he go better for them"

They swept away AD by whatever means possible except a Clever Tinubu.

Ladoja( sorry, Alao Akala), Oyinlola, Fayose et la, what have you brought for the yorubas.

To me nothing other down deceit.

Members what do you think?

I agree and this is why the Yoruba conservative politicians were distrusted in Yorubaland in the past until the last election. They lack substance except merely to occupy political posts. Look at all Obasanjo's Yoruba ministers. They have failed (except maybe Adebayo) in contrast with their Igbo colleagues. I hope the Yorubas will return back to Awo's idea: principled, substantive politics even if it means you have to be the opposition. This mainstream mediocrity is doing irreparable damage to the Yorubas future and not good for Nigeria either.

They victory of PDP in South-west was orchestrated by the men of yesteryears and the real Yorubas miss Ige in that election. Yo need to see Ige mount the podium to Campaign.

Do PDP as a party has any mission or vision.
They just want to be in Govt.

In the south-west, they never won the last elections free and fair. They just used the federal might to rigged the election.

Now they are in power what have they done. To my mind nothing, nothing.

Even the one that seem to be the best among them Otunba Daniel is refer to as Governor 28, Gov. SignBoard.

They should just leave alone come 2007, they us continue our tribal politic, with that we are the best develop in the our country in any thing good-- Education, Health, Physical Develop. , Transportation e.t.c. So why go to the center, to do what. I
I have nothing to do with Abuja, so why should I go there

I am a beneficiary of UPN good education in the second republic so i know what i am talking about.

When NPN, Ovie-Wiskhey and Sunday Adewusi came to swept off Ige in 1983 for the "shon of the soil" in Olunloyo that was the escuse then, that Yoruba needs to belong to the Mainstream Politics.

Mainstream is robbery unlimited just for a section of people.

I laugh when some people accuse OBJ of favouring Yorubaland but i have not seeing a single development in South-West since o.

What I have said is a statement of facts. We, the Yoruba are the most educated, enlightened and developed tribe in Nigeria (even in Africa). Talk of any profession one or more of my tribeman has and is excelling.
Let them call me Tribalist (BUT POLITICAL LIBERAL), infact that is what I am. I am proud and bold about my Yoruba origin anytime, anyday anywhere. I do not have any apology for that.
Please My Dear Mr. Akolawole, please proud and bold about your Yoruba Origin.

Being a Tribalist, does not mean I have to support injustice that might have been caused or being caused by my fellow tribeman against any other tribe i.e. i will never support OBJ 3rd term, Never.

Injustice to ONE is Injustice to ALL.

everyone should be proud of his tribe. and every tribe has one aspect or the other where they excel. so there is no problem with onanugaola being proud of hie heritage, but then the wahala is when one establishes injustice based on tribe and i agree with onanugaola(ur name hard to spell broda) that injustice to one is injustice to all. that is a fact

Most educated, enlightened and developed tribe?? What kind of ethnic superiority mantra are you propagating? Are you trying to say other tribes are less educated, less enlightened and less developed? Be careful. No tribe is superior to the other!!

Excellence is not a tribal trait, neither does it have a tribal gene. So what the heck are you talking about??

Akolawole:

So am I. But I will not agree that because of this, the Yorubas are more educated than other ethnic groups. A lot has changed now. Tuition was free in those days, and a few essential text books were also given to pupils free of charge, too. It didn't matter where you came from. As long as you were in a public school funded by the state govt. in a South-western state, you were entitled to it. In fact, that programme should have been continued in all states as well as at the federal level, and shouldn't have been limited to the South-west UPN states alone.

During the sixties, when the regional governments held sway, and the old Mid-western region was still a part of the former Western region, even the area populated by the Delta-Igbo in the former Mid-West benefited from the free education programme of the late Chief Awolowo, in those days.

where are all those who called be a tribalist for loving and sticking up for my proud Igbo heritage?
Larufa and akolawole feel the exact way about their Yoruba heritage as I feel about Igbos.
I think we are the smartest and the best all round
It does not mean I hate other tribes.

The last time I asked why the Nigerian govt has been unfair to Igbos,I was called names.

Today is 30th of May 2007, what we have gain from Abuja PDP Govt. in the last 8years are:

1. Best road Network from Lagos to Ibadan, the new Ibadan - Ilorin Expressway, Ibadan-Ilesa- Akure Expressway.

2. New and Best Equipped Teaching Hospital.

3. Best Security Network with the arrest and prosecution of the killers of Bola Ige, Funso Williams, Dr. Daramola. With the best police response time of 24 hours.

4. The stoppage of the political partronage of Contractors and Thugs -- Bode George and the Adedibu.

5. Better living condition of South West with life expectance of over 60years.

Just name anything that should have been done by a credible and responsive Govt.

It's only in your tribalistic world that Yorubas are the best at everything. You might want to provide proof from a FOREIGNER that you are indded best!

There is nothing wrong with being a Patriot

There is a danger in being Nationalistic and this can lead to Xenophobia and mass killing.

There is nothing wrong with Identifying with a Tribal or Ethnic group

There is danger in Being ETHNOCENTRIC

Nothing wrong with being a pan Africanist

But there is alot wrong with being a racist

There is nothing wrong Fighting racial Hatred

But there is alot wrong when you target only one side, you risk being a Victim of "Reverse Racism"

Check out the KKK they killed "colored" people some were genuinely Criminals but they killed because of Race.

Now look at what happened when HITLER STARTED RACIAL KILLINGS AND HE DEFINED WHAT "PURE BREED" alot of people that did not care were afraid.

You see if you are the victim of BIASED HATE you will appreciate what I am saying.

HATE IN THE PUREST FORM IS BREWED TO THE PUREST FORM WITH TIME. IT COMES LITTLE BY LITTLE INTO YOUR HEART AND YOU START LOOKING AT YOUR FRIEND AS A DIFFERENT PERSON THAT YOU ARE BETTER THAN AND YOU START HATING YOUR FRIEND BECAUSE OF HIS TRIBE GRADUALLY.

Alot of us in our Private rooms hate other tribe to bliskers, You there know what i am talking about.

Remember your friend some that are Igbo that can even speak a word of Igbo how do you Judge that he is an Igbo Man. some hate yoruba and Postulates all types theory that they are Cowards.

A man that says that he is Correct even if he wrong what would you call him? Self centered

A Group of people that say they are superior to others because some people in their grouping have Excelled Say they are all correct and hence they should be looked as Pure.

This is the root of Ethnocentrism.

I will end by asking this Question

What is A Hausa Heritage ?

What is an Igbo Heritage ?

What is a Yoruba Heritage ?

What are the other tribes Heritage?

who is a Yoruba Igbo or Hausa?

Let us Define Ethnicity then we can respect others. In the Different ethnics groups there is class struggle What will you call it "Dialectism"?

All this is just CLASS STRUGGLE in another form.

I risk being called a tribalist by responding to this thread, but I will do so regardless.

In response to the question, I would frame my answer in terms of major Federal Projects in the SW geo-political zone in the 99-07 period

1. the eventual (although belated) partnership with Lagos State govt to solve the ocean surge menace once and for all with proper storm breakers and shoreline protection being done

2. Establishment of 2 power plants in the zone - Papalanto 335MW (Ogun State) Omotosho 335MW (Ondo state) with expansions planned

3. Establishment and take off of the Olokola Free Trade Zone and the OK LNG Project in Ondo state

4. dualisation and expansion of some highways (limited)

5. New Airport terminal in Lagos under Public-private partnership

6. Increased cocoa production from 140,000 to ~600,000 tonnes mostly (but not all) from the SW

7. Influencing siting of Ibeshe Cement Plant (Ogun state) by Dangote Industries

those are a few of the 'achievements' I can come up with at present
