Have no problems with the defence line-up, but Obodo as a DM? For crying out loud, Maresca was the defensive midfielder in Fiorentina last season with Obodo in front of him playing a more offensive role spreading the passes (a role that Obi plays and IMO is better at). As for Olofinjana, he had a chance to really improve his game when he was about to leave Bran and Monaco offered him a contract, but the idiot chose to go to Wolves angry which practically put his career at a standstill. Now, if you watch the last U-20 tourney, you'd find that it was Kaita's presence that enables Obi to shine. Had he not been there (a la Makalele), Obi would have had it all to do.

Now, I think Oruma has gone beyond the level where he is hungry to give his all to the team, and IMHO, he is bad for morale. The guy always complains.

Obafemi has a sweet left foot and pace. As has Utaka a right and pace. They should be at the flanks (not wings) running into the centre when necessary, since they are not the traditional kind of wingers (Odiah and Taiwo have shown that they can function as wing backs).

Odemwingie is Okocha's successor, but with a more professional touch at his age than Okocha at the same age. Or am I the only one seeing it?
Re: Your Super Eagles 11 by Chxta(m): 12:52pm On Jul 14, 2005
Can we forget about the following players please:

Okocha (he is the greatest ever, but it is time to move on. I wish to heaven that he had stuck to his guns and stayed retired then).
Aghahowa (I grew up in Benin, and I can assure you that the man wasn't born in 82. He will never fully recover from his current injury)
Aiyegbeni (as far as he is concerned, Middlesborough is more important than Nigeria)

i agree odemwingie has the touch (that's what french football does to players e.g. okocha). but he was very much a squad player last season with lille. we know he can score goals that why i've likened him to del piero (the old del piero). i think that role suits him perfectly.

i can't agree with you with oruma. he still has something to prove to the national team. BTW, despite his club's average performance, he played exceptionally well. i saw about 4 sochaux games and he impressed me. he's really got vision and his game is back on track. his move to marseille only proves that.

martins. ok. he pretty effective on the flanks as i've seen that in a few inter games (notably vs. 2-2 draw with juve) but he's much more deadly as a frontman. and that's what he's good at - a pain in the ass for defenders.

yes. olofinjana na big fool. when i heard he dumped monaco for english first division, i was dissappointed. he's a real talent but needs competition. he is yet to prove himself among world class players. thats where obodo comes in. i think he can play like pirlo. he may not have been defensive at fiorentina but i believe he can hold his own. he kind of a utility midfield player.

yeah
okocha - way past his prime
aghahowa - well i still like the guy. he may be old but he's always determined.
aiyegbeni - the over-hyped premiership is just hyping this loser player
Re: Your Super Eagles 11 by c0dec(m): 4:57pm On Jul 14, 2005
trae-z: IMHO, ogbuke at the moment, is as lousy as yakubu. he may improve who knows, we'll see.

UDEZE is just too razz. no control, no finesse and a very tiny brain.

Does anybody know what happened to Justice Christopher? He was impressive at the last world cup. never heard about him since.

Re: Your Super Eagles 11 by Chxta(m): 5:03pm On Jul 14, 2005
I don't want to go into Aiyegbeni, I go vex for here...

As per Obafemi, look at my formation again, you go see say im and Utaka no be winger I say make dem play, d formation na variation of 4-3-3 (na people wey no know ball go talk say dat thing na 4-5-1).
Anyways, Oruma still hasn't convinced me. I watched Sochaux versus Istres, and he struggled to impose himself. But what really convinced me that he is not really ready were the matches against the big two, Lyon and Marseille. He failed woefully as Diara (against Lyon) and Pedretti (against Marseille) ran things while my guy was just a passenger.
There may still be hope for Olofinjana, but only if he leaves Wolves (which I don't see him doing). And even look at his game for SE nowadays, it is falling. Against Angola he would win the ball (at least he still remembers how to) and then give it away almost at once. Wetin!
Odemwingie is constantly misapplied, but towards the end of the season they saw sense and began to use him properly. Age is on his side, and the only way for him is up if he remains focused.
Re: Your Super Eagles 11 by Greatpeter(m): 5:05pm On Jul 14, 2005
Justice Christopher is in Germany.
He's just coming out of Injury. The injury kept him out of action for too long.
At the moment he's angry withNFA for not even give him a call after he sustained injury at last world cup where he performed brilliantly.

Though he said he might come back if invited. But no decision yet as per that.

Re: Your Super Eagles 11 by chimanu2000(m): 6:40pm On Jul 18, 2005
well mine is
enyeama

odiah yobo taiwo

enakhire

lawal(olofinjana)

okocha(oruma/michel)

utaka abwo

makinwa martins

basically this might sound a bit crazy but i am going with the flow and giving a 4-4-2 but i tink this is a bit too predicatable id prefer a 3-5-2 with yobo odiah and probably taiwo behind , lawal giving some cover just infront of them and a midfield of oruma, olofinjana, and michel with utaka and abwo pushing forward and them the combination of makniwa and martins upfront. notice ive left out messrs kanu and okocha. thing being id have okocha in for michel or kanu .how many of you agree?
Re: Your Super Eagles 11 by Greatpeter(m): 6:56pm On Jul 18, 2005

huh??

Where is kanu??
Re: Your Super Eagles 11 by c0dec(m): 1:44pm On Jul 20, 2005
kanu?!? kanu can't get a first team shirt in the worst team in the english league. he doesn't deserve to be listed.

also i think the guy is like 37. old man.
Re: Your Super Eagles 11 by Nobody: 4:11pm On Jul 20, 2005
two statements:

1) it's time for kanu, lawal and babayaro to retire from the eagles
2) we don't need oliseh. olafinajana, kaita and others are ok
3) what the heck do we need 4 coaches (eguavon, siasia, amokachi, shorunmu) for...plus 1 more coming up.
4) aghahowa is my all time favourite Super Eagle. i'll probably get his jersey with the name TRAE-howa instead. i love that number "17"
Re: Your Super Eagles 11 by sage(m): 5:56pm On Jul 20, 2005

Babayaro and Kanu are finished. As for Lawal, I think he still has something to give from the bench. We haven't yet gotten a utility player who can slot into any role. Remember Nigeria-Ghana, Nations Cup Q/F 2002? Lawal virtually played as a striker in that match. He can play any role, and he is committed.

For me, those who are calling for a return of Oliseh have their brains in their arses. Have you heard the English calling for a return of Gazza or the French calling for Deschamps?

Age old saying, too many cooks... The only good thing here is that all 4 were teammates and were in the same camp of the mafia, so agro no go too dey.

If Aghahowa is your all time favourite SE, then you are young man... You never saw Ye-king play? Or Keshi in his hey day? Or Ekpo? Or Etim Esin? Or Okwaraji?

Bros, I want to assume that the Aliyu you mentioned there is Mohammed Datti Aliyu, former Milan now with RS Liege? He is a striker, not a DM. How can you ask Aghahowa to play behind Oba Oba?

greatpeter it will be a while before aghahowas feet heal again the man na old baba.healing takes time for the aged id like to see him come off the bench for a while.i want to see more of makinwa and martins . have a lkook att these for option 2.

enyeama
odiah yobo taiwo

ayinla(lawal)

olofinjana

utaka abwo
mikel(oruma)

martins
makinwa(aghahowa/aiyegbeni)
its purely experimental and would do well against the likes of jamaica, usa and those kind of opposition we play when we desperately want to climb up the fifa rankings . but it could also work against angola.............
Re: Your Super Eagles 11 by 9ja4eva: 3:20am On Apr 01, 2007
We should play Martins and Osaze or Yaks instead.

We poor in defensive.Hope Shittu,Sodje,Onuoha and d likes get call ups soon?
Re: Your Super Eagles 11 by ofurufu(m): 10:58am On Jun 30, 2008
At the moment,I believe this is our strongest 11 (4-5-1)

-----------------------------------Enyeama-------------------------------------------

Ordiah----------------Yobo-------------------Shittu--------------------------Taiwo

-------------------------------------Ayila------------------------------------------------

------------------------Kalu Uche-----------------------------------------------------------

-----------------------------------------------------Mikel-----------------------------------

Osaze----------------------------------------------------------------------------Ike Uche

-------------------------------------Martins-------------------------------------------------

Bench
Kanu for Mikel
Yakubu for Martins
Utaka for Osaze

NB:
1, Before you query my 4-5-1 formation, recall that Ike Uche and Osaze are attackers. So its almost like 4-3-3.

2,I know a lot of people will not agree with my starting Martins ahead of Yak, but i just have more confidence in Martins on field than Yakubu, and I can't explain the reason. But maybe it's because Martins is more hardworking and has undying fighting spirit from start to end of game. But I admit Yak is a more clinical finisher!!!
