I know someone you will always cry at the sight of locust beans, I can't but wonder why. Also in school, roommates do fight over using it in there foods. Some even say that only local people eat it, wat is your take on this?

It is local seasoning and an acquired taste, disliked it when I was younger. Now, its simply delicious. It takes getting used to.

Doesnt smell so bad when u let it dry in the oven or you can air dry it before storing it. My mom sent me some from naija and i should have used it less cos now its finished cant seem to get it in any african store here. My hubby used to hate it but now that he hasnt had it in a long while, he cant seem to stop dreaming about it. lol

Love the scent tho i can't get myself to chew it. Sometimes I use it to make rice stew and i pick it out of my food when i'm eating which annoys my husband to on extent

Ladies please don't touch that stuff, ends up making the puny smell. Wonder why so many Naija women have smelly punies (no offence meant). Just like garlic, what you eat ends up in your pores.

Lmao @ goat excreta, this same reason was my my siblings and I disliked it wen we were young.we used to tell our mum dat it was well-washed goat excreta. I can't say I really dig iru now oo, but at least, I can eat any stew made with iru.

Guys, I love locust beans "iru". I was in a public transport weeks back and there was this man sitting by my side eating iru (locust beans) raw. Just as passengers were eating gala with pure water as usual in lagos demonic traffic, this man just brought out locust beans from his bag and simmer it down with pure water. People were like avoiding like a plague but that's what the man wanted to eat. I do eat it raw too but at home because the odour can be offensive to some people. But trust me, iru is good and medicinal.

Omi iru is quite useful for rapidly normalizing blood pressure - my dad used it for a while when his bp was over 200. However the odour from the liquid is something else, really!

Absolutely delicious in Nigerian dishes (Milled egusi, Vegetable , okra + massive prawns, very hot chilli sauce etc D )!  Brought a big jar of dried ones from Naija last travel  Love it in Chinese too (squid/green pepper/black beans)!

I use it in all my local soups, okro, egusi efo riro, palm oil rice, ewedu. I love Iru
