Cultism.Kidnaping, hostage taking, corrupt ND leaders, poverty deprivation, FG neglect, lack of education, topographical isolation, cultural barriers etc. I can go on and on. Enter terrorism with threats of blowing up bridges etc. How do we solve this moral problem?
Re: Niger Delta And Terrorism by tkb417(m): 4:30pm On Oct 19, 2007
very simple
Give them what they want so they wont turn to fullblown terrorists.
Its still ok now, by the time we wont be able to go out because of bombs planted in the commercial bus, passenger planes, crowded places like Oshodi, thats when people will listen to them.

Give what belongs to Devil to the Devil and let them shut up.
If they blow anything, this country go turn to yam pepper scatter scatter. grin grin grin
Thats my candid opinion.

If the Zone gets what rightly belongs to them, people like ETTEH wont misappropriate/steal. Its now left to them to squander it or use the funds judiciously.

Do you really think they'll drop their arms if they get "what they want" and become docile citizens?
Re: Niger Delta And Terrorism by tkb417(m): 4:36pm On Oct 19, 2007
I think they have a list of what they want. topping the list is 50% derivation and proper developmental plans for the area. If they get all these and they still take up arms, then the army can do what the Angels did to soddom and Gommorah. Level the place.
Re: Niger Delta And Terrorism by somze(f): 4:40pm On Oct 19, 2007
I've always said 2 things should be done
[li]Security - Enhance our security force, train them, pay them better, equip them, get better communication infrastructure[/li]
[li]Development - Invest hugely in the area in terms of infrastructure. Better road network, gas powered electricity, hospitals, schools etc[/li]
and what do you think belongs to them,
Are we gonna turn to magicians just to satisfy the Nd ,you don't expect bridges and flyovers to be created in one night , its a step by step issue angry

Simple if you feel they don't deserve anything then let them secede. While hold them by all means while the milking of the blackgold continues

What MEND wants is undefined and remains continually varying. Yesterday they wanted Asari and Alams to be released and welcome parties to be held for them, they also wanted 30%. Today they don't want 30% anymore and they don't care about Asari and Alams.

Even when they are given 100%, they will demand 120% for all the resources taken out of their community for years.

Nobody knows what MEND wants. MEND, they don't know what exactly they want so how can it be given to them. The only thing I know for sure is that they like to terrorise.
Re: Niger Delta And Terrorism by jujukemist(m): 1:32pm On Oct 24, 2007
to a large extent I am forced to agree with you. They seemto be losing their strategic balance.

Very typical of a terrorist organisation
Re: Niger Delta And Terrorism by jujukemist(m): 3:02pm On Oct 24, 2007

Re: Niger Delta And Terrorism by mrpataki(m): 3:07pm On Oct 24, 2007
Why woud they give up terrorism?

It has become their source of living.
Re: Niger Delta And Terrorism by grafikdon: 12:07am On Oct 25, 2007
What really makes you think MEND will give up a lucrative business of armed robbery, kidnapping and oil bunkering? Are you guys kidding? If you honestly believe they will 'give up arms' after making them drink oil for breakfast, lunch and dinner, you must have your head examined. MEND is a clueless and disjointed criminal/terrorist organization.

The niger delta still smacks of abject poverty. That said, their problem is not lack of funds but a willingness by their leaders to judiciously put the funds to use and better the lot of their people. Leaders like Alams, Ibori, Lucky, Anieneh, Clark (to mention a few) have mortgaged the interests of their people over the years. The interesting thing is that the people who should standup to them (the so-called struggle movements) have kept silent because they too are involved in exactly the same trade. If not why on earth will the BAYELSA STATE GOVERNMENT organize a grand reception for an international thief cry and none of those armed groups that have vowed to fight the govt to a standstill until it delivers the much desired development to their people cried foul?? Who are they fooling?

Looking at worldwide trends, i forsee a situation where a trully people oriented armed movement will evolve and start its jugdement with every past niger delta leader. It will look more like the HAMAS and FATAH groups in the Palestine Territory. Even though HAMAS is branded a terrorist organisation, its winning elections in Palestine because its people oriented (they have organised more than 80% of suicide Bombings in Israel but they have a welfare package that takes care of a lot of poor, displaced palestines).

A word is enough for the wise!!!

I believe you have raised a num of good points here. However I dont think we can import the kind of fundamentalism of hamas to the ND. Simply because the driver Ideology has its roots in the islamic religion. But I also believe the youths can synthesis their own driver ideology with its source being collective survival cool

The Niger Deltan Leaders are the major problems of that region, they are the ones using the so called militants to extort money and perpetrate all forms of crime.
How many people kidnapped have the so called militants killed ( am not supporting killing) rather they left them off after some time, obviously they are collecting money or other things.
I was really pissed of when alams was caught with stolen money and $2million worth of wrist watch and they are still protesting that he should be released, we are all hearing what ibori and odili are doing with their money---they have really brain washed the youths and the so called militants so that logical reasoning will not prevail.
Now MEND has no clearly defined cause they are fighting for, they need to fight and liberate themselves from the shackles of their selfish and wicked leaders first before they can achieve anything meaningful. Ahmadu bello gave northerners purposeful leadership likewise Awolowo in the west and zik, the basis of the real achievement that we know point to today were laid down by this greatmen, not the Kleptomaniac form of leadership that we see from Alams, Ibori, Odili & co.
UNTIL THE ROTTEN TOOTH IS REMOVED, THE MOUTH WILL CONTINUE TO EAT WITH CAUTION.

If we give them 100% control of the resources, the wicked cabal among them will still colonise it while majority of them will still languish in abject poverty. Majority of the Petroleum Ministers that we have had in this country are from ND, how have they affected the lots of their people, yet we shout Federal Government (is the Petroleum minister not part of the federal executive council).

Way forward: 1.Let there be Infrastructural development in the ND. 2. Massive education and skill acquisition for the youths. 3. Above all, oil revenue comes in hard currency in several billions, it takes the will of God not to be coveteous when you have access to such money, they need to choose leaders (with sincerity of purpose, genuine love for their development, intelligent and highly focused) to manage and govern them
