I am using iPhone4 on the ATT network.

I would like to be able to use this in Nigeria during a future visit on one of the Nigerian networks (not ATT due to exorbitant international rates) but ATT have refused to give me the unlock codes.

What are my options?

I really do not want to carry two phones.

AT&T doesn't provide unlock to customers. You have an option, that's only if you have not already upgraded to iOS 5 (with baseband 04.11.08), you just need to get yourself a Gevey sim. With that, you will be able to use it over here. But if the reverse is the case, then I'm sorry to say 'there is no option yet'.

Not correct at all. AT&T will provide the unlock code (upon request) to all their phones, except the iphone. The iphone thing is some agreement between them and apple. I have unlocked about 8 phones via AT&T in the last 3 years that I have been with them. The most recent one being my HTC inspire (got the code within 3 mins on the phone) about a month ago. You just need to be a customer in good standing. I have an iphone4. Unfortunately, they will not provide the unlock code. Just have to use any of the other unlocked AT&T phones I have.

You will have to unlock via a 3rd party. I use my other unlocked AT&T phones when I visit Naija.

No. My iphone4 is not unlocked. I just use one of my other smartphones when visit. I think there are options for unlocking the iphone4, however you may want to google for it, to see which one may work best for you.

There is no 3rd party solution that can unlock an AT&T iPhone 4 with baseband 04.11.08 at the moment Infact, I have 4 AT&T locked iPhone 4 with me at the moment patiently waiting to unlock them.

Old thread. Good news is there is unlock for AT&T now.

There has always been 04.11.08 unlock, just that it depends of the carrier an iPhone is locked to. So if your iPhone is locked to AT&T USA. It's is now 1000% possible.

If AT&T have refused you can check with online service provider SuperUnlockCodes.com they provide remote unlocking service for your iPhone4 which is permanent unlock and you can use any network in your mobile... so you will be free to use in Nigeria and need not carry two phones...
