Do you think that a political union among members states can help? I mean having the same currency, same market, the same voice on
international affairs. This is only a simple form. Businesses in different states would probably have better opportunities to expand and this can create jobs.

I like the concept of the EU. . . different states but relatively open borders, common currency, etc.

The problem is when one of the states is a lot more economically sound than the other (Germany and the Nordic countries vs. the rest of Europe.)

I suppose that in West Africa, we don't really have this disparity? Nigeria is wealthier than its neighbors, but not overwhelmingly so, right?

So maybe it could work here.

Maybe in order to expand , this is what Nigeria actually needs. I mean this country rely some much on oil while
it has the human capital to industrialize. It is true, it would not be powerful at first but as the economy grows as the power of ECOWAS.
The main thing is unifying the little strength each country has to realize something that will have an impact.

Current African businesses struggle to expand in their own countries because of a fcked business mentality of owners and command economies (instead of free-market economies) by rulers.

Expanding the geography is unlikely to change those limitations.

um . . . . I don't know about you but the problem today in Africa stems primarily from an imbalance in power.

Giving more power and control to the same group of thugs makes no sense.

The EU concept might seem nice but it is pretty flawed as we can see the current economic crises in europe. the disadvantages of a common currency seem to outweigh the advantages and that is why britain choose to retain its currency and to some extent it has shielded them from the threat greece's predicament poses to the region.

so if similary style isto be employed in africa, we might see a situation where one nation mismanages its resources and then relies on other stronger member. the ideal thing i will like to see is something like an AFRICAN MONETARY FUND and end the imf's reign in africa

I think britain made the best decision. they were smart. Having a common currency in west africa is a good idea. But we must also retain our currency. An ECO, will help west africa countries to form bond and also business. But nation should not do away with their currency. but having ECO as a second means of exchange is a great idea. but must be a second means of exchange.

to have a strong ecowas state. i think  we need to remove western niger , nigeria will over dominate the others. it is even to the best interest of nigeria to remove the western niger.  it mean we would more than one national team in the world cup and national cup.

Look Ghana soccer players make as much as the nigerian soccer team around the world. They bring into Ghana economy about the same money. Because most people who get to play for national team are normally the one who earn the big money. only 30 players can do it.  If we have more than one national team we double our money. 

removing the western niger from  nigeria  means two  federal capital cities. 

3  removing the western niger from Nigeria. it mean it remove the fear of domination by nigeria by other west africa in ecowas.  look many of the west africa countries have refused to use the ecowas passport. they dont even carry it because they dont feel safe.  They seem to believe nigeria is been dominating them .

4 removing the western Niger from Nigeria. It means that it reduce the number of voting power of Nigeria in ecowas, which have been the main reason why most west africa nation complain alot. No nation want to be a slave to other nation.


Nigeria president have been chairman of ecowas 7 times, this when you compare to 2 times by Ghana.  1 by Côte d'Ivoire,   1 by Sierra Leone, 0 by liberia. 0 by Guinea bissau , 1 by Gambia.   Nigeria 7 times.
