I don't want to (over)generalise, but i just noticed that to a large extent many women prefer to let a guy start a conversation and maintain it when the tempo is going down a bit. The guy is supposed to do all the thinking. Some women need to be more proactive and intelligent when it comes to convos. They want it to be interesting, but are willing to do only little (or nothing) to keep the conversation lively. So is it just me or do I have a point here? Can the ladies defend 'emselves please?

No I dont think so. Some women are pretty assertive probably you haven't met some
I love sorrounding myself with people who have the world at their fingertips
That way we make each other sweat and sweat blood talking,debating,thinking etc.

when we Nigeria girls talk alot-- u id-iots complain Nigerian girls are too loud

when we keep quiet or talk less-dey complain we r too boring

I know you were not referring to only Nigerian girls but am using Nigerian giirls as a case study

I have no probs engaging in a dialogue wit someone i knw n confident around.
But if u r a stranger u av to start it so dat i will knw or detect d kind of tins u lyk to talk abt. Den leave d rest for me

Its obvious you havnt met the talkative types who have a lot of interesting stories to tell you while you just nod evry little while.

Most ladies do talk well.
Even the gentle ones too can crack you up except they are not interested in talking.

@pendo et MrsChima, yeah seriously I'm sure there are a few, but many females Iv talked to are only good at asking questions like "how are you", "have you eaten", and other terrible cliche (albeit nice) questions, once it comes to making it more lively, it's like they are clueless. they may have very good opinions about issues, it's like the problem is bringing it out, I know a few women on nairaland that are different though, but in real life it's mostly d same.

@killz , nahh, ok maybe a bit, but I still try to talk to people sometimes, I'm not completely isolated.

@onila, I don't think you are getting the point. you are just trying to paint me as sexist. man and woman can both be talkative. the bone of contention here is conversations!

I can't control women online, but I am telling you that there are assertive women as Pendo illustrated beautifully.

You haven't experience the luxury of meeting women who are take charge.  Maybe some of those women are take charge women but because of how they are raised, (I am assuming you are in Nigeria) they are letting you take lead of the conversations. 

Express your desires for assertive women verbally and see what happens.  If no such progress then you will just have to be patience or look elsewhere. 

The nature of what I do offline, it is natural for me to take charge.  wink

It must be a lost in translation somewhere because in your previous comment, you stated that the women would carry on conversations but won't ignite it.

From what I have gathered, it shouldn't matter if the woman isn't the conversation starter but more importantly can she carry on a meaningful conversation thereafter.

Now can you elaborate exactly how you want a woman to carry on with you? Please be detailed.

Many times I engage a man in talk they don't want to let go. I have to cut it off cz we can talk hours on end about everything under the sun.
I always start and when I find it exhausting I divert and bring in something more interesting.I just pick from the previous topic and move on.One topic always leads to another and it just seems like we cannot exhaust the topic.
There so many things to talk about really.I can start a conversation from say a gecko I have seen on the wall or a just a mug of coffee.And I keep it afloat.

OP I think you have it twisted,its either the kinda girls you talk with or you are boring or shy,btw many guys make convos seem like torture,they just say things that makes you wanna slap them,how do you expect a lady to flow with such a one?.
