Corruption As A Rite Of Passage For Aspiring Nigerians In Government? by Nnenna1(f): 4:47am On Mar 20, 2012
At the risk of reading like captain obvious, I was thinking of this the other day in light of all the charges of corruption that seem to crop up EVERYWHERE as far as government bodies and personalities are concerned. Even "expatriate" personnel who should be imbibing some "non-Nigerian" ethics are just as likely to have skeletons in their cupboards.

Don't you think that there is some unspoken rule that you must "grease palms" or have your palms greased if you want to make it ahead in Nigerian politics? I think so - what then happens is that even aspirants with good intentions become trapped in their new political enclaves by virtue of initiating themselves into the "cult" of Nigerian ruling class. So everyone has a skeleton in his cupboard, and no one can whistle-blow unless he wants to have his own dirty linen washed in public.

I really think that the current political institution needs to be completely toppled and cleansed before we can start to have a dialogue of moving Nigeria forward. Placing hope in individual officials is very ineffective given the ruling class and the "mechanic" rot that is keeping the system alive.

You can only write these if you do not live in Nigeria.
It is virtually impossible to operate in any aspect of the Nigerian life without corruption.
Try it yourself.

Not only for aspiring Nigerians in government.
The private sector too. . .tied to ONE GOVERNMENTAL ARM OR THE OTHER.
The same ten and ten pence.
No hope!
