Hausa if first for native speakers due to population. Kiswahili is first in general terms
Arabic is first non-African origin language

I don't agree, There are many people who speak Hausa as a second language like most Fulani people, Kanuri people, Zarma/Songhai people, and a lot of minority groups in Arewa.

How Oromo and Amharic reach there?
Oromo and Amharic are the two most widely spoken native language in Ethiopia.
Ethiopia is second most populous country in Africa with about 87 million people.
Im sure it's clear now, how they got on the list.

Hi Gbogboti!
Thanks for the statistics, but am not so sure about its authenticity. For instance, Swahili, apart from English, is Kenya's official language. It is spoken ALL OVER the country, so I wonder why the statistics would indicate that it's 87% widespread. 99% seems to me like the accurate figure.
With Uganda on the other hand, Swahili is seldom spoken by its citizens (apart from a few in Eastern Uganda and Southern Uganda; both regions bordering Western Kenya and North-West Tanzania respectively). Most Ugandans do not speak/understand Swahili, so 85% appears like a very inaccurate statistic to portray the magnitude of how spread Swahili is in Uganda.

I agree more correct statistics for Kenya swahili will be 99%. Uganda maybe 30%

Oromo, Amharic, Yoruba and Igbo shouldn't even be on the list.

How did they make it in the list and Fulani and Lingala did not?
Yoruba is spoken in more African countries than Fulani. Google search.

Guinea-Bissau can be added to the list as well as some parts of Ghana (though in Ghana far less prevalent than Hausa speakers). I'm not too sure about Cote D'ivoire (I've never seen a Pullo from Ivory Coast) so your list is about 95% accurate cheesy. Thanks for posting it!

So to speak the truth is to be a hater?How many people speak hausa compare to Swahili?Wiith Tanzania(40millions) and Kenya(36 millions) you already have ways more people speaking Swahili than hausa.Then add Drc,uganda,zambia,comores.....etc...Don't forget that 3 out of 4 Somalis speak Swahili and a lot of Ethiopians as well.Beauty wise there is no contest between Swahili and hausa.Swahili wins hand down!

What you are making here is misleading comparison for a number of reasons.

First, the people in the second video are not Hausa, but Fulani. And as the setting is a traditional Fulani setting, I'd wager that the language they were speaking there is Fulfude, and not Hausa.

Second, if you are trying to compare the aesthetic quality of two languages, you don't post one video of talented female vocalists doing a modern pop song, and then try to compare with another video of non-professional singer-males doing an off-key chant (not even a real song) in a traditional setting.

Mr swahili lets do the calculations..nigeria is a nation of almost 180 million.. lets say 80 million in the north speak hausa add that with almost 20 million of niger republic.. add with almost 6 million in northern ghana, add with cameroon,togo,benin,sudan,chad,ivorycoast, etc

first of all I doubt there are 80 millions of people living in the north of Nigeria.My best estimate will be at most 50 millions of people.For the sake of the argument,lets suppose that there are 80 millions of people speaking hausa in north Nigeria,lets make the calculations:

Hausa:
ngeria 80millions
niger 20 millions
rest 10 millions
Total=110 millions
that pretty much the highest estimate of the number of people speaking hausa

Swahili
Tanzania=40millions
Kenya =36millions
congo =30 millions
Uganda =15million
Rwanda =10millions
that is already ways higher than the highest estimate of the number of people speaking hausa.IF add Burundi,zambia,zimbabeans,ethiopians,somalis,zambians,comores.......

You have no idea what you are talking about, Nigeria with it massive population of 185 million , is the most popular country in Africa (the China of Africa) ,and Hausa speakers in Nigeria alone stand over 50% of the population. Hausa is spoken in over 15 countries in Africa . The Hausa speakers (1st and 2nd speakers) in Nigeria alone are more than Swahili speakers in Kenya, Tanzania, Congo and Rwanda combined. Chad basin is the the most popular region in Africa for over 500 years to date, and Hausa has been the dominant language since.

You are being so sarcastic and ignorant . There are over 18 millions Hausa speakers in Niger,5 millions in Ghana, 2 millions in Togo,6 millions in Bénin, 3 millions in Chad,7 millions in Cameroon,1 million in Côte D'ivoire, 1 in Guinée Bissau, 2 millions in Sénégal, 3.5 millions in Mali,1 million in Libya, 2 millions in Sudan, and S.Sudan (Sudanese Hausa have their own Movies in Sudan).
West African is more populated Than East Africa.

Hausa was the first African language to ever Broadcast on international Radio (BBC) in March 1954. The first ever African newspaper (with exception of Arabic ) was printed in Hausa in 1910 using Ajami script , Arabic is not African.

By the way, Hausa is more beautiful sound than Bantu Kishiwahili ( Kishiwahili is 65% of Arabic loan words not proper Bantu) . Hausa is Afro-Asiatic language itself with over 80% of it genetic related to other Afro-Asiatic languages. Hausa uses only 10% of Arabic loans words (20% in Islamic perspective or the translation of Quran) since the beginning of Trans-Saharan trade in 11th century, and the rest of 80% words are Chadic whom Hausa is part of and the other 10% comes from neighboring languages mostly Nilo-Saharan (Kanuri and Songhai).

I would rather learn to speak Somali, Amharic or Oromo which are very related to Hausa as second language than Kishiwahili if I really want to sound phonetically more Arabic than Bantu.
