Going by the situation on ground, Anambra State would soon join the league of States that have built an Independent power plant in the country.

Gov. Obi led a delegation from Anambra, including other parties in the power project (125MW) to Bahrain, to inspect the construction of the power badges and for further discussions with the parties, which includes the Senior Management of Arab Shipbuilding and Repairs Yard Company (ASRY); the delegation from Centrax ltd, UK, the oldest Gas turbines company in the world, formed 65 years ago; the delegation from Eaglefin Structures Finance Mauritius LTD.

While conducting the delegation around the facilities of the company, particularly to inspect two badges meant for Anambra that are under construction, the Chief Executive of Arab Shipbuilding and Repairs Yard Company (ASRY), Mr. Chris Potter said that the starting of work at the badges was to show their commitment , faith and confidence in the project. He said that the advantage of the badges was that the facility would be 100% percent manufactured, tested before shipping to Anambra. He said it could be re-possessed, towed or ship-lifted to any part of the world.
Explaining the geometry of its construction, Mr. Peter Thornton said it had dual fuel capability of Gas and Liquid with fuel badge option.

On his own part, the Director of Centrax Ltd, a privately owned oldest turbine Industry in the world, Mr. Guy West said that they would produce the best turbine for Anambra that would meet international standards in all its ramifications. He said they could not do otherwise going by their experience, having started production of industrial turbines since 1961. He said that the engine for the actual generation of power would be manufactured by Rolls Royce famed for quality and durability.

Responding, Gov. Obi said that he was impressed by what he saw but that there was need to define things properly as to know when each stage of the work would be completed and when the entire project would be finished. He said that going by the commitment of President Goodluck Jonathan to solving power problem in the country and the move towards deregulation of that sector, that he did not envisage any problems or delays on the part of Government.

On Gov. Obi’s delegation are the Hon. Commissioner for Utilities, Dr. Joseph Nwankwu, Mr. Alfred Nwosu, Don Dunu and Mr Dennis Okafor (DENCAN).

I think you may just have to start by googling Bahrain, then you will know how far they have gone technologically. Bahrain can boast as much as Japan, China of scientifically and technologically today. Go figure

We did this way back in 1999, the first in Nigerian.

Lagos state did this way back in 1999 with 271MW Barges that's still supplying electricity to the National grid via Egbin.

I know your ignorant and olodo self questions Tinubu's achievements, this was done by Tinubu in 1999 and if not for your petty and incompetent federal government, Lagos state and many other states in Nigerian should enjoying 24/7 power supply Today.

AES Power Plant

In 2000, former Governor Bola Tinubu partnered with AES Nigeria to build an Independent Power Plant to generate 270MW for Lagos residents. The power generated was consumed locally but later transmitted to the national grid due to some challenges in the operational framework in the energy sector.

Sources said the plant’s generation capacity may have dwindled in recent time due to erratic gas supply from escravos. Residents of Ikorodu, where it is cited attested to the low supply of electricity there as a result of the drop in the plant’s generation capacity

4 more barges arrive for Lagos power project

LAGOS - FOUR more barges have arrived the country to facilitate the
installation of the Lagos State Independent Power Plant Project (IPP).

They bring to seven the number of barges already in Nigeria for the project
with the technical partners, Enron saying yesterday that the emergency phase
of the project - 90 megawatts would be ready by December. Enron will
generate in all 270 megawatts.

Three of the barges had earlier arrived the country last December when work
was originally scheduled to commence on the project.

However, disagreement between NEPA and Enron, over pricing of the energy to
be generated from the plant stalled the project.

Two more barges are still expected in the country to bring the final number
of barges required for the project to nine.

Conducting Gov. Bola Tinubu round the barges yesterday at the Niger Dock
Dockyard, Apapa, Enron's Plant Manager, Mr. Dennis Skipper said with the
arrival of the four additional barges, the conversion from diesel to gas had
commenced.

He said as soon as the conversion was over in 45 days the barges, each with
capacity to generate 30 megawatts of electricity, would be moved to Egbin
Thermal Station, near Ikorodu for final installation. According to Skipper,
while the emergency phase of 90 megawatts will be completed and handed over
to the governor as Christmas present, the final phase will be completed in
the first quarter of next year.

The Enron boss, who said 40 per cent of the project had been completed with
the arrival of the barges, stated that the project was capable of
stimulating high economic activities in the local Egbin community, as no
fewer than 500 people would be engaged for the construction of the base of
the plant.

This, he added, would be in addition to the over 110 Enron's personnel who
would be on site through out the duration of the plant.

Skipper said Enron would be committing some $150 million into the project,
and commended the Federal Government, NEPA and the Lagos State Government
for clearing the major hurdle that stood in the company's way in the process
of signing.

Gov. Tinubu in his remarks, said the arrival of the seven barges and
near-arrival of the remaining two barely a month after the final agreement
was signed, was a manifestation of Enron's seriousness about the project.

He expressed satisfaction at the level of development about the IPP project,
saying "I am very satisfied at the way things are going, and if these barges
are here as fast as they are, then it shows the seriousness Enron is putting
into the project."

Dude don't misrepresent me or my drifts.
All I said is that ALL SE governors are not giving enough attention to the international airport issue, a project I consider very important and frontal to our long term survival strategy.
Yes he is trying, but so are Rochas of Imo and Chime of Enugu.
They are still too soft for my liking though. I need a militant governor who can go to Jona's house in Abuja and tell him to designate those airports as international.

As for Peter Obi, I would leave you with Dee Sam Mbakwe's quip, "O buru na Mbakwe Peter Obi agaghi achi, o bu nna gi ga achi?" hehe! grin

Eze Onlytruth, am so happy with the manner with which you have continued to ignore that Yoruba clown and his lagos gibberish, up till today no part of lagos is lighted even with billions stolen by fashola and his father tinubo.

back to the topic: This is major economic development in Anambra state and SE at large. The IPP barges will soon arrival Anambra via the river niger in Onitsha. The IPP barges are to serve the major economic zones of Anambra- Onitsha, Nnewi and the state capital Awka due to high hospitality industry springing up everyday in the city.

We are in for a good times in Anambra, because the governor is steady in his developmental approach unlike some of our governors. He is affecting sectors of economic and social development in the state. This is a good development as the barges will arrive Anambra anytime soon this year.

Talk about your state, which Anambra is far far ahead of in terms of every indices of development. Its a genuine project which has already been under construction and will come into Anambra for actual operations this year.

lol. You are not far from the truth and the 'clownishly incompetent' you used in describing peter obi is very perfect.
In other news, this guy called onlytruth is corny. Wonder who made him the id.iotic 'eze' on nairaland that is decieveing him? How can you talk for ndiigbo when you are a govt agent and claim ignorance of the governance curse of peter obi on his state. Comparing peter obi to rochas and chime and putting peter obi and sam mbakwe in the same context is just stup!d and thats what he is! Eze my foot.
