The Osun State Command of the National Drugs Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has arrested a 60-year-old woman identified as Aduke and a teenager, Hammed for allegedly trafficking cannabis sativa, popularly called Indian hemp.
The state commander of the agency, Mrs Anthonia Udu said Mrs Aduke was nabbed along Iwo-Ibadan Road on March 17 when officers of the command were on surveillance patrol.

Mrs Udu disclosed that the suspect was caught with a bag of cannabis sativa weighing 7.2 kg, adding that the command had been on her trail for over six months before she was eventually caught following a tip-off. According to her, “the woman who has only one child with many grand-children usually carries the illicit weeds from Ibadan for onward distribution to her partners in crime living in Iwo, Osun State.”

She disclosed that Lateef, an 18-year-old secondary school student was arrested in February with 40 kg of Indian hemp at Apoti village near Ilesa, adding that he had been arraigned before court and remanded in prison custody. The NDLEA boss said 547 kg of the illicit weeds was recovered on March 28, where it was kept in a bush at Araromi village in Isokan Local Government Area of Osun State.
Udu vowed that men of the command were on alert to sabotage the tricks of drug barons and traffickers aiming to outwit security men, stressing that the fight against the Indian hemp cultivation needed concerted efforts.

“We need concerted efforts to deal with Indian hemp cultivation and trafficking since it has been realized that drug trafficking poses great danger to security, all hands must be joined together to combat the crime,” she stated
