steps to follow:go to settings==>connectivity==>destinations==> and then one by one depending on how many acces points you have on your phone (but I will advice you keep only one and delete the rest to avoid complications) just creat a password to all the access points...then whenever your whatsapp tries to connect to the internet, your phone will request for a password ... If you do not ok the request, you phone wont grant whatsapp any connection to the internet... If you are already connected and wish to disconnect; you can either press and hold the red button on the phone's key pad( especially e-series users) or you go to the default connection manager on your nokia phone and disconnect. To gain access again, the cycle continues.

A new way to stop whatsapp from connecting to the internet all the time has come to my mind.Only in iphone it disconnects as u close the app.in other mobiles it keeps the server running in the background even when u exit the app. This causes data usage and battery drain.
One way is to create a password to the internet access point,this is good but whatsapp keeps on requesting for connection every 5 mins & u have to press the cancel button to deny connection to it.
A new way is install an antivirus with firewall & put whatsapp in untrusted apps list.Dont forget to put the firewall in On mode.then it will kill the app.for this purpose any antivirus will do,even free version will work,i'm using netquin free version.
Now when you want whatsapp to connect open the antivirus- go to firewall settings-set whatsapp as trusted app.now click on whatsapp icon & it can connect to the internet all the time.
When u wish to discontinue again go to settings & set it as untrusted app.and ur work is done !!!

i use my anti virus to control it the connection is not a problem to me after openin it and checkin my msgs i close it and it wont connect again til i open it again vry simple

its a very good post u sent about stopping whatsapp from connecting buh u can also try backwarding ur date when u don't want to use it and that automatically shuts it down....i hope this helps.
