What You Need To Know If You Need Admission Into UNN by chimexvinlex: 11:08pm On Apr 11, 2012
Generally speaking, there is a perennial problem of inadequate admission spaces for “prospective undergraduates” in Nigeria. According to analytics, between 1.3 and 1.6 million candidates reportedly sit for JAMB/UTME exercise every year. (This number is increasing geometrically every year). Of this number, a given university (one as big as the University of Nigeria) receives an average of 80, 000 applications (both 1st and 2nd choice) for admission. Out of this number, as few as 5000 or 8000 candidates gain the admission at the end of the day.

Because of human inflation and the fact that too many candidates are chasing few admission chances, the University of Nigeria and many other universities have devised a means of dealing with the excess applications they receive every year. That means is the famous POST-UTME/SCREENING examinations.

• UNIVERSITY OF NIGERIA POST-UTME/SCREENING EXAMINATIONS
It is very obvious that, for most admission seekers into the UNN, passing JAMB/UTME is no longer a problem. The real problem is passing the UNN post-utme/screening examinations.

Many candidates have been denied admission even though they had a very high score in Jamb/utme. They were screened out in the post-utme. For some candidates, this has been their story for years.

What is the cause of this trend?

Because of the very large number of applications received by UNN and the fact that they have very limited admission spaces, they want to determine who will and who will not be able to cope with university education. So they set questions that “futurise” the education the candidates are currently receiving and not just questions from what their ordinary level has taught them. By so doing, UNN is able to select the very best and screen out the rest.

• HOW TO CONQUER UNN POST-UTME/SCREENING EXAMINATIONS
For reasons already given, it is now known that UNN can disregard Jamb Syllabus and go as far as setting questions from part 1 or part 2 of university students’ curriculum. It, therefore, amounts to lack of wisdom for any candidate who wants to matriculate after the examination to prepare for it using only ordinary level textbooks. You need to use books that are a little bit advanced.

One book you cannot afford to miss is “Sure Success in UNN Post-Utme/Screening”.

UNIVERSITY OF NIGERIA, NSUKKA (UNN) is a wonderful school which, undoubtedly, every Nigerian student wishes to go. However, it is a hard nut to crack when it comes to admission issues. As prospective students, there are a lot of things that you need to know which will help you in gaining admission into the Den. The following are handy:
1. You must make sure that you are up to or above average academically. I believe you can be your own judge in this matter. This is very important.
2. Do everything possible to score very high in jamb/utme. It may interest you to know that UNN do take the average of your utme score and post-utme score before considering you for admission. So ensure that you score very high.
3. You need to know that UNN has different cut-off marks for different states and also for different departments. So don’t be surprised if some candidates with lower post-utme score gain admission while those with higher scores are denied admission.
4. Concerning UNN post utme, you are going to answer sixty (60) questions in all. You are meant to write the same four subjects you entered in your jamb/utme and each subject would contain fifteen (15) questions. The total time allowed for the whole exam (i.e. 15 questions × 4 subjects) is one (1) hour (or 60minutes). This implies that you are not expected to spend more than 1 minute on a question.
5. Try your possible best to get the book “SURE SUCCESS IN UNN POST-UTME/SCREENING EXAMINATIONS” as early as possible. It is a genuine compilation of UNN post-ume/utme Screening past questions with very comprehensive and reliable solutions from year 2005 till date. It is also the only book that contains Day 1 and Day 2 of all the subjects from 2005 till date.
Note that UNN organizes the screening exercises in the two campuses (Nsukka and Enugu) for two days. So most subjects like English, Biology, Mathematics, etc are taken both on the 1st and 2nd day and the papers are different. You need to get all the past questions.
6. Don’t make the mistake of waiting till you get to the motor parks or the campus before you purchase your Past Questions & Answers. The reason is because about 7 questions out of 15 are set from the past questions in each subject. You will confirm that when you buy “SURE SUCCESS IN UNN POST-UTME/SCREENING EXAMINATIONS”. More so, the book will help you to gain an insight into the tricks and questioning pattern used by UNN and also to get familiar with the questions.
