Law in Igbo language means Iwu. This is often referred as Iwu ala, iwu ani, iwu ala, iwu eli or iwu obodo. This is the law of the land, or the law of the town, or the law of the country. From Iwu, the following are derivable:
1. Odi na iwu: it is forbidden by law, illegal.
2. Tinye iwu: make law or enact law.
3. Mebi iwu: commit crime, offence, break law, sin, wrongdoing.
4. Ida Iwu: to break the law.
What are these laws?. Some are similar to those in the official Nigerian system while some are universal because Ndigbo are part of humanity. A few are nonetheless, distinctly Igbo.
Ndigbo, let us assembly them.

Emebile ihe madu ibe gi: do not destroy or damage the property of any person. Impregnating somebody's daughter without the offer of marriage is taken as a form of destruction or damage in almost all the Igbo communities.

Suicide is seriously frowned upon, and you are buried with no honor, with your body facing the earth.
