Leviticus 27:30,32
30 “ ‘A tithe of everything from the land, whether grain from the soil or fruit from the trees, belongs to the Lord; it is holy to the Lord.
32 Every tithe of the herd and flock—every tenth animal that passes under the shepherd’s rod—will be holy to the Lord.
(See also Deut 14:22 Be sure to set aside a tenth of all that your fields produce each year.)

Above is God's definition of the tithe mentioned in Malachi. A tenth of the tithe was given by the Levites to the priests who ministered at the altar.

Why did God in the scriptures above bluntly NOT to ask Israelite Fishermen, Carpenters, Blacksmiths, Strangers, Traders etc. to keep 10% of their income/increase as HOLY unto Him? Or else they would be cursed?

Was His plan to make them robbers and cursed?

Since they couldn’t meet up the commandment to pay tithe (since Lev 27:30,32 is crop/herds) were they, even though they lived in Moses' time, were they, even though they were Israelites, permanent robbers/cursed?

Would Moses have been right to add to God's word in Leviticus and add the following (see below) even though God didn't command him to do so:

"a tithe of all your fish as fishermen, income/increase as Strangers, Carpenters, Blacksmiths, jewellery Traders, 10% of your increase as you poor people glean the edge of the fields is HOLY unto the Lord and and you must tithe them?"

Would he (Moses) have been wrong to add the above to prevent these Israelites from being robbers/cursed for not being able to fulfil Lev 27:30,32 (see quote above) due to them not having grain/fruit/herd/flock as God commanded even though they had income/increase in monies?

Are Pastors right to say 21st Century Christians are cursed if Carpenters, Blacksmiths, jewellery Traders etc do not give them 10% of their income?

Do our Pastors have the same 'dilemma' Moses had seeing as 21st Century Christians do not have the items God commanded was HOLY & therefore
tithabe unto Him in Lev 27:30,32 the same way Moses' Israelite Fishermen, Carpenters etc did not have the HOLY items?

God, of His own volition, exempted 'Moses' Israelite Fishermen, Carpenters etc' in Lev 27:30,32. Moses DID NOT add to God's Word by commanding them to tithe thereby making them exempt from curses or robbing God if they did NOT pay 10% of their increase/income as tithe since it was not deemed HOLY by God.

God did not need to rebuke the devourer for the NON TITHE PAYING ISRAELITES (even in Malachi) since they did not rob God in the first place.

Why do Pastors hide the fact that a significant portion of Israelites were NOT Commanded to pay Tithes and were therefore NOT GOD ROBBERS or cursed for not tithing.

Why Do Pastors hide the fact that 21st Century Christians have more in common with the Israelites not commanded to tithe than those commanded since they (like those not commanded) DO NOT HAVE THE ITEMS DEEMED HOLY in Lev 27:30,32?

Are Pastors adding the quote below to God's Word?

"a tithe of all your income/increase as Carpenters, Blacksmiths, jewellery Traders, Bankers, Doctors, Teachers, Conductors, Akara sellers is holy unto the Lord and you must tithe them or else you rob God and therefore cursed?"

Are 21st century Christians right to approach tithing from a Malachi/Curse/Robbing God perspective?

Is it right to play on people's fears, superstitions, hysteria and paranoia?

Are Pastors Robbing God by collecting 'tithes' knowing fully well a significant number of people pay them out of fear of curses because they taught them a lie and have refused to tell them the truth of God's word? Is there an element of Manipulation and Control by the pastors.

Are they being disingenuous? i.e. 'Not candid or sincere, typically by pretending that one knows less about something than one really does.'(google def.)

Are Pastors trusting in the arm of flesh to provide for them because they hide the truth that there is no curse neither do Christians Rob God when they do not pay pastors a tithe because Malachi does not apply to them?

Are Pastors frightened that once Christians no longer fear they will not pay them tithes
and Christians will begin to help their neighbours/families who are suffering directly because they will stop believing the lie that the Lord commanded that a tithe must go to Church/Pastor?

Shouldn't Pastors trust that their followers will still give to them out of the abundance of their hearts without threats of curses?

Will pastors who have built empires from tithes obtained by sleight of hand apologise and ask for forgiveness from God & the people and begin to teach the truth of God's Word? Will they allow people give 10% if they so choose (knowing they are not commanded to or cursed if they do not); therefore obtaining honestly and not obtaining under false pretences?

Will they teach the people to: Gal 5:1 - Stand fast therefore in the liberty wherewith Christ hath made us free, and be not entangled again with the yoke of bondage.

Do Pastors have faith or fear?

The issue of tithes is a very contraversial issue and it appears to be a medium for unscrupulous so called pastor to extort money from their gullible members. Emphasis should not be placed on trival that will not provide solutions to gaining access to God's kingdom but rather the focus should be on salvation. Remember the mosiac traditions were reformed with the arrival of Christ.

brainchild78: The issue of tithes is a very contraversial issue and it appears to be a medium for unscrupulous so called pastor to extort money from their gullible members.

It is controversial as the teaching that one must give 10% of one's income or else one is cursed is pervasive; very very widespread.

In some churches, one can get excommunicated for challenging the teaching. Some are not allowed to marry 'non-tithers' etc.

Thank God for Nairaland where one can discuss controversial issues without the threats and the one way teaching one gets in a typical church setting.

Pastors must teach their followers that the tithing command was not carried out by all Isrealites e.g. wage earners, carpenters, fishermen etc.

21st Century Christians should make a decision on giving(not paying cos they DO NOT OWE GOD TITHES); giving 10% of their income voluntarily not forced under false pretenses that they will be cursed if they don't from Pastors.

Pastors must teach that some in the groups of Israelites in Moses' time that were exempt from tithing were successful. They were not cursed and did not have the devourer chasing after them because they couldn't tithe per Lev 27:30,32.

God knew even then during Moses's time that they did not have the HOLY items he commanded must be tithed and did not ask them to tithe of their income/increase on purpose. God couldn't have forgotten to ask them to tithe unless Pastors are telling us God made a mistake they (pastors) are trying to correct.

They are actually saying God made a mistake by adding to God's word.

- Some people who follow the 'tithe or else you are cursed' begin to use divinations/superstitions to check if their 'tithe' is working. If they get promoted they attribute it to tithe, if their car has a problem or their child is il, they'll use divination and say it's because I didn't tithe correctly cos I split my tithe and gave some to the poor instead of giving all 10% to pastor/church. Fear must not rule rather, faith; that He is able to do abundantly above all we ask or think Eph 3:20, because we are already His children, we cannot bribe God with tithe.

If you don't want to pay Tithes, no one is forcing you to.

God specifically does not want your money in his house.
