Greetings my fellow Nigerians.

I am currently on the verge of gaining an MSc. in HR Development and Consultancy in the UK. Yes, I am a Nigerian in diaspora but PLEASE DO NOT LET THAT DISTRACT YOU FROM THE POINT I HOPE TO MAKE.

It seems that we as Nigerians have lost our sense of diplomacy. Now everything rests with GOD, GOD, GOD. First of all, I am a religious Christian. Maybe not toooooo religious but I do follow God. I can't help but notice that whenever something happens in Nigeria, people automatically run to God for "help" or "divine intervention". REALLY?!!! In today's world? In the 21st century we are still calling on GOD GOD GOD, going to several churches to pay our tithes hoping for a miracle. Maybe you might wake up to become a zillionaire overnight shocked MADNESS.

It's a shame we tend to shy away from awareness and the mentality of questioning and challenging everything. In the UK, we have live debates consisting of the PRIME MINISTER himself and several government bodies. They argue their issues without fear of reprisals (at least to an extent).

I go on YouTube and I see our senators fighting each other in the name of politics (really?). But still, it's only GOD!!! Maybe He will break up the fights someday. I am very grateful to nairaland for providing a platform to shine a light on the issues we face in Nigeria. In a country consisting of 150 million citizens or so, we CAN move mountains if we decide to think logically and rationally as an entity. IBO, HAUSA, YORUBA, WHATEVER YOU ARE. But I guess the level of frustration and the whole issue of f***ed up tribal differences have replaced the essence of logical reasoning and the implementation of such thoughts. For example, you travel on some of the worse roads in the world (Lagos to Edo, perhaps?) and considering the state of the roads, you survive the journey and it becomes a testimony - "Thank God I survived" - "only God"wink. Boy! Muthersuckers in power should fix the bloody roads. God won't do that!!! It's a shame that as much as the country continues to slide further down the bottomless pit, most citizens choose to turn to religion and ignore the fact that soooo many issues we face in Nigeria are all man-made. But rather than challenge these mortal leaders, we turn our attention to GOD GOD GOD!!!!

Yes, it is good to be religious but religion should not be an instrument for fighting the socio-economic and political issues we face in that country. Question and challenge everything. Keep the faith but don't abuse the faith. If half the nation were to show their frustration at the condition of the country, there would be a big shake up in government. I think I'll leave the issue of religion and the misconception of religion and social, legal, political and environmental issues for now hoping I have made my point.

Secondly, having lived in England for 10 years, I hope to return to my beloved country and apply my knowledge in, hopefully, a government organisation as an advisor. Considering the level of co-operation and co-ordination, I would like to contribute to a lot of changes in that country. For a country growing at 7% per annum, a lot of things should have changed by now (Or are we still waiting for GOD?). It's about time we made our voices heard. We are the generation of tomorrow. We are young and restless. We are hungry for change. We want careers, economic and personal developments, social developments, infrastructure planning and implementation, a reform of bloody old legal laws and a thorough implementation of such laws, most importantly human right and labour laws. With a country that big, we have a lot to gain from Nigeria.

I, for one, am passionate about changes being implemented in that country. Human Resource Management and Consultancy (CIPD accredited) would shed a light on the issues we could rectify and rectify correctly and permanently to benefit every single citizen of Nigeria. It's about time we put religion aside and focused on the issues surrounding Nigeria. Don't get me wrong, there's a difference between being religious and hoping for religion to change everything. If anything, the notion of "religion fixes everything" makes matters worse. Follow your religion, absorb the relevant information and abide by them in your everyday dealings. It shouldn't be a case of psychologically believing in religion, hoping for the knowledge to apply itself in anything you do.

WAKE UP MY PEOPLE. IT IS THE 21ST CENTURY.

LONG LIVE NIGERIA!!!

Well, someone sensible likes to hear the truth. Shame about the other 149,999,999 citizens. Go to church on Sunday and fund your pastor's £15m private jet!

the problem with naija peeps is too much reliant on religious teaching which is the basic foundation of hoping and praying. imagine someone with an income of ten thousand naira per month hoping and praying dat he wants to build a house before the end of the year. dats living in lalaland....

P*ss off. I have a well-paid job even as a postgraduate. Don't think I'm a plantain hawker like you. And no, the MSc. is strictly for knowledge acquisition as sponsored by myself and my organisation since I am that competent (pardon me for blowing my own horn!) Come to the UK and I'll show you what the good life is about. If you're denied a visa, don't worry - I do visit Nigeria annually and we could meet up to iron out your issues which I believe are in their hundreds if not thousands.

And a bast*ard like yourself whose grammar is soooo poor is in no position to offer anyone a job. TW@T.

And no, I don't need people commenting on my post because the comments do not put money in my bank account. Fagg*t.

I believe you said so on your profile. So, to save yourself from further embarrassment I suggest you STFU and not act a hero because, mate, YOU'RE NOT ON MY LEVEL in any way. Actually, my bad. I apologise for the miscommunication. You win. Just live with that and me happy because I feel like if I carried on I'd be bringing myself down to your rather hopeless level. Congratulations Sire!

Hahahahaha!!!! You're as senseless and baseless as they come. Err... Undergraduate study, postgraduate study, work experience. Believe me, 10 years in the UK ain't sh*t. You sound a bit bitter mate. Oh. I also hold a UK passport the same way I hold a Nigerian passport.

Funny. When I'm home to run my consulting firm I'll be sure to give you a job... As a mutherfu*king driver/gateman seeing as your grammar has convinced me enough you're as incompetent as... I don't know. Please fill in the blank.

Now let me enjoy the Nigeria vs Burkina Faso football game.

You obviously do not know what sarcasm implies. And obviously your grammar is still as poor as ever. Errr... A UK passport does put food on the table since I operate in Europe and it makes life easier in terms of travelling and other privileges.

And you keep convincing me you're as daft as Daft Punk. Ever heard of them by the way? You know, you're as stupid as a child if you think I'd like to associate with you on Facebook. I'm not even on Facebook because it's no longer a trend for professionals abroad. Ever heard of LinkedIn? No? Well, in that case, it's nairaland for me and you....bi*ch.

Supreme Being you are right that there exists a blind, logic-defying expectation held by most Nigerians, that without any conscious effort on their part, God will step in to avert all disasters, provide wealth without labor and keep law enforcement off the trail of criminal "believers", just as long as their church donation subscription isn't allowed to lapse due to late payment. The prevalent "believer" mentality seems to be "Hey, I pay most of my check to Pastor DoRight, so he can fly about in a private jet, therefore, I can DEMAND what I want from God - no questions asked.

Personally, I have handed the steering wheel of my life to Ogun, the God of Iron, who will ensure that I suffer no crashes along life's highway, regardless of how recklessly I blunder along while drunk. Fortunately for me, old Ogun has no need for a private jet, and is content with my sacrificial offerings of a few mongrels now and then.

Very interesting comment. Really insightful.

And please, lkwd? I just want to know what it means.

Sorry. I fail to believe that. Praying and hoping did not make the Arab spring uprising successful. The masses did. Yes, hoping and praying does help keep people motivated to seek change but they do not necessarily initiate such a thing like change. Good point though.

Ps - I'm only trying to debate sensibly, not dismiss your comment entirely.
