Remedies For Itchy Arm-Pits

Do you have itchy armpits? Then you are not alone. Everyone i have talked to said that they have suffered from this form of itching at one time or another. The good news is that it is not difficult to get rid of. The first question you want to ask yourself is WHEN does the itching start? Was it after a shave? Then try some of the suggestions below:

1. Don’t use dull razor to shave your arm-pits. Dull razors usually cause irritation since you will apply more pressure to get the job done.

2. Do not use any deodorant immediately after you shave, wait for some time for the armpits

to heal from the tiny cuts caused by the razor. If possible shave at night to give your armpits enough time to heal.

3. You should not shave the same spot over and over again -each time the razor goes over your arm-pits, it creates new cuts.

4. After shaving, you can clean your arm-pits with any antiseptic or alcohol.

5. If you have very sensitive skin, then by all means use products designed for sensitive skin -there are razors, deodorants and shaving cream designed for such skin.

Does the itching start after sweating or engaging in an activity that causes perspiration? Then try some of the following suggestions:

6. Use a good deodorant, talc powder or vaseline on your arm-pits (if you have not started using one!). It helps to control the sweating and odour produced from that region

7. Avoid tight fitting clothes (these may irritate your arm-pits). Wear loose fitting clothes -if possible sleeveless clothes that will allow air to circulate around your body. If your bra is very tight, it might also cause itching around the armpits.

8. Abrasion caused as your arms rub against the side of your body is another possible cause of itching -you might want to apply vaseline or talc powder to your arm-pits to minimize friction.

Itchy arm-pits may also result from infections, allergy or hygiene. Some of the following practical suggestions might be of help:

9. Eczema can cause itching around the arm-pits region. There are several over the counter drugs and creams (like cordisone or any other good cream) that can help you deal with it.

10. Yeast infection (Candida Albicans). Although this form of yeast is naturally found in the body, excessive build-up of it can lead to itching. They can be easily treated with an anti-fungal cream. wearing light loose fitted clothes (to allow free flow of air) especially when the weather is hot can help a great deal.

11. If it is heat rashes, it can be controlled by rubbing calamine lotion on the arm-pits.

12. If you suspect an allergy, keep a diary (it will help you pinpoint the source of the allergy). Always remember that your body can develop allergy to any food or product at anytime even if you have been using them for years.

13. If you are on a medication when the itching started, inform your doctor at once.

14. Try changing your deodorant, detergent, soap etc -just try different combination to see if the itching will subside. You should also try perfume free soaps, creams and detergent.

15. Since build up of sweat and dirt under the arm can cause itching, you should make sure you wash your arm-pits regularly with soap and water.

16. The stubble in the arm-pits (those tiny hair) can cause itching if you do not shave regularly.

17. Under-arm itching is very common during pregnancy -it will disappear on its own. In the mean time though, you can use any cream, deodorant, talc powder or even vaseline that might help to reduce the itching.
