Fayemi: Turning Ekiti Into A Huge Construction Site

When Ekiti State governor, Dr Kayode Fayemi promised to turn the whole of the state into a huge construction site this year not a few would have imagined what the governor meant by that statement. But four months into the year the reality of the statement is beginning to dawn on many with the ongoing construction works in different parts of the state, particularly, Ado-Ekiti.

To actualize his promise to the people, the governor rolled out 13 road projects for reconstruction across the state. These are 9km Omisanjana-132Kva-Deeper Life Church road ; Fajuyi-Trade Fair road; 1.8km Ijigbo-Isato-Ile Abiye road; 24km Igede-Awo-Ayetoro road; 0.8km dualisation of Old Garage-Ojumose road; 0.9km dualisation of Atikankan-Nitel-Baptist road; 17km Ilawe-Igbaraodo-Ibuji road; and 23km Ikole-Ijesa Isu-Iluomoba road.

The rest are 3.6km Ijigbo-Baptist College road; 4.9km Ojumose-Basiri road; 1.6km Fajuyi-University Teaching Hospital; Ado-Ikere dual carriage way; and 43km Oye-Ikun-Otun road.

These roads added to other awarded by the Fayemi administration shortly after assuming power and are nearing completion are the
Ado-Ilawe road; Ado-Afao road have turned the state to a huge construction site as promised by the governor.
Besides, the roads awarded by the governor there are other road projects inherited by the governor. They are Ado-Iworoko-Ifaki dual carriage road; Ewu bridge; Oye-Ire; Aramoko-Ijero-Ido; Ikole-Ara-Isinbode; Odo Owa-Oke Ila; Olokuta-Ilora; Ilemeso-Omu; Ido Ile-Okemesi Junction; Otun-Osan-Ora; and Erimope-Odo Owa road.
Beyond the road projects, in fulfillment of his promise, the governor has awarded contracts for the installation of streets light for
Ado-Ekiti, the state capital while the urban beautification programme for which the governor has been vilified by the opposition is gradually given the state capital a new look.

Efforts to award contract for the construction of the ultra modern market are at higher stage. The state government has built new market stalls at the Agric Olope area of the state capital to accommodate displaced market men and women.

For the road projects, it is a thing of joy that construction work has begun virtually in all the projects. For instance in Ado-Ekiti, the contractor, Messrs Hartland Nig. Ltd., has started work on the Fajuyi-Teaching Hospital road. The road which has some failed portions including potholes is now being rehabilitated with the reconstruction of drainages to drain the perennial flood on the road.

The road divider has been removed and replaced with another with the sole purpose of increasing the width of the road. Though, road users are presently facing hard times going through the road, it is expected that at the end of the day, the people will have cause to thank the Governor for his vision of replacing the hitherto poor road with an asphalt overlaid and beautifully marked road.

The site engineer, Mr Basil Ikeagwu said work on the road is not rehabilitation as being claimed in some quarter. He said the entire job is involved redesigning of the whole project which include excavation of the original earth work and replacing them with stone base to make the road enduring.
Speaking on the road project, a bread seller, Mrs Bola Adeyinka said though they are facing tough times now because of the dust on the road, they are positive that after the completion of the project, “we have something to celebrate and to show the world that our Governor is working”

Another road in the state capital receiving attention is the Ojumose-Police Headquarters. The project being handled by the same contractor has taken off with the removal of the divider and the expansion of the width. The drainages will also be worked upon with new asphalt overlay. Ikeagwu said the similar job being executed on Fajuyi-Teaching Hospital road will be executed on this road

Another road project which is ongoing in Ado-Ekiti is the Ijigbo-Ilawe road. The project which is nearing completion also involved the removal of the existing earth and its replacement with stone base to make more enduring.
Ado-Ikere road project which was the last to be awarded has equally taken off with the contractor mobilizing to site. The road which is a dual carriage way has developed so many potholes and with a large portion failed. The road which has become motorists’ nightmare was constructed during the Fayose administration. But not long after completion, many portion of the road had failed with successive administration failing to address the problem.

Many motorists who ply the road daily have continued to laud the governor for rising to the challenge posed by the poor condition of the road. For instance, a commercial driver Daniel Kolawole said the award of the contract has demonstrated that a listening governor is in power in the state.
The rehabilitation of the 1.8km Ijigbo-Isato-Ile Abiye road has been completed while steady work continues on Ijigbo-Baptist College and Omisanjana-132kva-Deeper Life Church-Ikere road projects, all in Ado-Ekiti.
Besides, the dualisation of Old Garage-Ojumose and First Baptist Church-Atikankan is about taking off. The two major projects had been delayed by the inability of the state government to pay compensation to owners of properties that will give way to the two road projects.

Last week, the Governor presented cheques to property owners during a total sum of N178million were paid as compensations. The owners of the properties have been given 21 days to remove their structures to avoid government bulldozers from pulling them down.

The affected individuals who were full of praises to the Governor for his kind gesture promised to cooperate with him in the realization of his lofty programmes for the transformation of the state.
Apart from the road projects in Ado-Ekiti, other road projects had taken off in different parts of the state. The Ado-Afao and Ado-Ilawe road projects are nearing completion. In, fact they are due for commissioning soon.
Also, Igede-Awo-Ido, Ijan-Ise, Ijero-Ipoti-Ayetoro and other major road projects awarded by the Fayemi administration and being handled by various contractors have been given up till December this year to deliver as the state government frowned at late delivery of all its major projects.

Apart from other road project, the governor is constructing an ultra modern market to replace the existing one. Prior to the construction of the market, the government has erected some locked up shops at Agric Olope area of the state capital to accommodate market women and men that would be evacuated from the Oja Oba market.

Beyond this, is the issue of payment of compensations to those whose properties may be pulled down to give way for the start of work on the ultra modern market. Special adviser to the Governor on Infrastructure and Public Utilities, Mr Kayode Jegede said the government is still sorting out the payment of compensation to those who will lose their structures for the new market.

He hoped that work will start in June when bulldozers will move into the market for the pulling down of existing structures adding that the Governor is serious at ensuring that its dream of a new state capital emerged at the end of his four year tenure.

The governor has also awarded contract for the installation of street lights in all the major roads in Ado-Ekiti. The contract which was recently awarded will see to the replacement of the existing solar powered street light erected by the immediate past administration. Before now, the solar powered street lights had been a failure as the state capital is always in darkness at night to the poor work done on the street light.
The take off of the project is still being delayed by the reconstruction work carried out on the major roads in Ado-Ekiti. As the
projects are gradually coming on stream and the government Project Monitoring Committee headed by Mr Ranti Adebisi doing their job, the transformation agenda of the government may not be a mirage at the end.

I didn't read it, I wont read it and I don't expect anybody to read it as simple pictures without a single word would have made more than a thousand times more impact!!

My friend, the article is on the official website of Ekiti State. You are just showing ignorance if you do not know that even in the West no Government department is obligated to supply any pictures to anyone. They will however provide regular updates of work being done .

This is , for example, why you won't find any pictures of the superb drainage project carried out in the Bode-Thomas-Eric-Moore axis of Lagos by Julius Berger recently. Of course fellow haters like you came here to say Fashola is a "liar" who has not carried out one single drainage project in Lagos till I supplied my own personal pictures to prove otherwise. Djustice, a known hater of Fashola who claimed the Lagos Governor was just "chopping", was stunned . See the pictures yourself and trawl the net to see if you can find them anywhere else proving my point that no one is obligated to supply pictures to prove anything to mischief makers like you. The drainage is built for me as a Lagosian living in that area. I therefore don't need any silly pictures when I have my eyes same as Ekiti folks lose nothing over your biased cynicism:

https://www.nairaland.com/826649/what-big-deal-about-fashola/1

In Nigeria, the style is to make vague allusions to work carried out. Administrators never mention specific names because , even if not obvious to you, the silly example you give of proliferation of smartphones makes you look very dull. If SW PDP can resort to wild fabrication and outright lies, would the ACN not be playing into their hands mentioning actual roads if indeed there is no construction going on and everything is a "big fat lie" as you conclude? Oni, smarting from Fayemi ousting him, and lying through his teeth daily will miss the chance to mobilise a camera crew to ridicule Fayemi? You are not very smart.

In any case, why is it that you guys not from the SW are keen to ruin every thread with your silly demand for pictures these days? Why don't you let indigenes speak before you open your mouth to begin yapping nonsensically? It works both ways because if you live in Ekiti you can simply go to many of the sites and prove no work is ongoing. If you don't feel obligated to do that in proving your case why , inversely, should the onus fall on anyone to provide you with pictures when, ultimately, you don't matter at all since you are not from Ekiti State?

Go and check Fayemi's history to see he is no conman like many of your political heroes. Anyway, we have heard you. Can you now go and face your own issues abeg. They are talking of roads and you are showing an elevated picture of a town. What confirms your mischief, driven by bias, more than that?

I was in Ado 3days ago.
Fayemi led administration destroyed the road dividers on the fajuyi-Teaching Hospital road, and infact, on all double carriage in Ado. The engineers on these roads are actualy expanding the dividers. My question is..how will this expand the road? I personally see this as a waste of scarce resources. Nothing was wrong with the road divider that was there before IMO.

Also, his promise to review the strategic position of the state within Nigeria towards becoming the major rice producer for the nation the governor is working towards raising the state's economy and job creation. Mr oga, those previous dividers were bleeped. I guess you have seen motorists maneuver the too short dividers. The new dividers are to host the beautification works.

the rocks were blasted to give way to a new lane.
The first picture below was taken after they blasted the rocks.
The last two pictures were taken when the new lane became functional. the stretch of the road still needs asphalt to be laid on some portions, but truly the government is working. The demolition of illegal structures on the road gave way for the drainage to be dug. I will post(if I can get some soon enough) pictures of the road divider and drainage. Plus the local governments are also constructing 5km stretch of roads by the local council in each local government and digging drainage.

Please save yourself the stress of uploading any pictures. I am a son of the soil in Ekiti and infact I have people working in the system right there. I became disenchanted with Fayemi's administration since he mooted the idea of turning that beautiful edifice serving as governor's office to a 'BROTHEL' or hotel if you like. Fayemi is busy wasting the scare resources in Ekiti. What has become of the beautification project till today? Ado township looks horrible, the roads are bad and he's coming here to advertise road repairs which is no achievement to me! It is part of a basic duties of a governor to ensure good roads, portable water and other basic amenities that makes life easier for the citizenry! You don't blow your own trumpet! He has been only busy embarking on white elephant projects. He's no better than his predecessor, Segun Oni. I am no loyalist of any political organisation but I want the best for the state and not just vague projects that have no direct impact on the life of the people!

Spoken like a true Ekiti man, people will first criticize rather than objectively appraise the man and allow time to prove himself.
Questions (since you have the best interest of ekiti at heart)
1. Has Ekiti ever previously experienced any welfare plan, like the one this current governor has?
2. Do you know that the governor's office was converted by Fayose from a hotel to governor's office and this government just wants return back to the original plan.
3. when all the road projects are completed, who will ply these roads, spirits or ekiti people?
4. Are you aware that the beautification project that you are waiting for is what is been executed in phases?
5. What is your defintion of white elephant projects?
6. how is John kayode Fayemi like Segun Oni?
pls answer this honestly.
sorry folks that y'all gotta strain your necks to see those pictures, consider it some exercise.lol grin

Third post? Nah! But hey I'm not asking anyone to share my views. I know you're from Ekiti and am from there as well. Ado-Ekiti precisely. I'm not asking for a magical transformation either but am saying priorities have to be set and gotten right. Let's start with the basic and not vague endeavours. What need is there for turning governor's office to a hotel? Pray tell. And that building is right near the government quarters! Where's the sense security in that? Ado-Afao road is in deplorable state and so many others like that I don't have time to mention. The township dualisation has been as Fayose left it, no significant progress. The road leading to UNAD/EKSU has only one part completed. There have been two governors after Fayose oh. Infact, a lot isn't right with the administration in Ekiti right now. But then there's room for improvisation but let Fayemi get things right and not a wild goose chase with non-viable projects. I can't say it all but I hope he does something significant soon before he's booted out like his predecessors. And like I said earlier, I'm no apologist of any governor or party but whoever is at the helm of affairs should do the right things.

The previous/unused gov house was turn into an hotel. And any state needs one.

So road building is not a priority anymore?

I'm just trying to see where you're coming from. I'm scratching my head over here because I fail to see what you prioritized as urgent in Ekiti.

Nigeria, the country we all love. To the issue of water, The Irewolede water project commenced by the previous government never for one day pumped water while internal sources said that the water meter kept reading and the government was paying for the water bills. Well that's some food for thought isn't it, you wont find this story in news papers, that's local gossip.
The dairy farm at Ikun where cows imported from SA, began to die from malnutrition and some cows had a meeting and decided to bolt away from the dairy farm; that is just another wonder that occurred between 2007 and 2010.
These days, minimum wage in ekiti is N19k and the government is paying contractors to do jobs people can see and feel.
Education is been restructured, no more external candidates at the WAEC May/June exams, candidates must undergo promotional exam from SS2 to write the exam, which is paid for by the government. Just a little insight to what's going on now.

Ok,the road was started when and by who, and can you describe(to the whole world) the topography of the portion of road between Iworoko to Ifaki?
Because this same issue applies to Plateau state, when a terrain is rocky then road construction must obviously tackle more difficult challenges in either bypassing or blasting the obstacles.

Totally agree! They would make very cool rural resorts. Can be supported with spas and wellness centers as well as some form of Agrotourism!
But would that be sufficient to provide a viable economy for the state. Not really. AgriBusiness is the way forward for a state like Ekiti.

About "just doing his job", I think it is important to inform the populace on whatever it is that's being done. Do so with every tool at your disposal including well presented pictures and videos. That way, the opposition doesn't get to define you. Fashola is doing a great job at that. So is Oshiomole.
