The stock market crashed between 2008-2009.
We are all witnesses to the NSE management crisis and corruption allegations between Dangote, Ndi-Onyuike Okereke and Otedola. We are also aware of the revelations by the CBN that the banks used depositors funds to manipulate share prices. These actions led to the crash in the capital markets.

Yet the thieving rogues in the NASS closed their eyes and senses to all these people and decided to single out Aruma Otteh who was actually appointed in 2010 AFTER THE MARKET HAD CRASHED!

Cant people see that these House members are only trying have their pound of flesh against Otteh just because she denied them bribes and exposed them? Otteh is angry and pissed off, and sometimes anger may look like arrogance.
Rushing to call for the head of a woman (who had attended previous hearings) just because she missed one sitting is just a way to blackmail the woman in the eyes of the public.

I listened to Okereke and I wonder the kind of professor she calls herself.
The real fraud was perpetuated under Okereke.....buying rolex watches for N156m with over half not accpounted for, and buying a yatch for N37m, and all she can say is that it was a private company funds that was spent. I remember how she wanted to use Obama's election campaigns to defraud!
Shame

When you people talk of carry people along, I laugh. Which Civil Servants? The ones that come to work at 12 noon and close at 3 pm? Abeg forget all these show of innocence on national TV. E be like say una so sabi these people o. They are so lazy and corrupt. I've worked in the UK civil service in one of Her Majesty's department and I can tell the difference. Some of these guys you people see no sabi use computer yet they want to be there. Oya allow young man whose got the 21st century skills to do the work. For where, dem go gree. Abeg Otteh may not be clean but these guys wey una dey see most of them are very corrupt and lazy. They can do anything to maintain the status quo.
Your idea of the civil service is not correct. Remember this is a parastatal. I work in one and your conclusions are incorrect. I agree that in the mainstream civil service the above happens but not in alot of parastatals-that I know firsthand. You don't fight corruption with corruption and illegality.

To all Oteh lovers, I am sorry to disappoint you. She is not innocent at all. Her answers are not convincing. She reeks of arrogance, nepotism and cuts the image of a despot. Even if she is being hounded for trying to change the ways of working at the Stock Exchange Commission, how is she carrying it out? By bringing change agents who were not properly recruited?
What was her explanation as regards the 50th anniversary?

Let's see how it unfolds...

Sorry Oga but whether its SEC , NNPC , NITDA, Ministry of Defence, NPA, NNPC, JAMB or NTA all of them have the same corrupt and lazy culture. The mistake I made was to call them civil servants maybe Public Servants would have been better. Let us not deceive ourselves it is a very unproductive and over bloated public service- you might be an exception but in all that is the truth.

@ pcicero, sorry to burst your bubble. You have raised a vital question about the recruitment process so may I ask you to please explain what you think constitutes an ideal recruitment procedure with reference to the subject matter at hand. Is the hiring of people that have the technical competence, breadth and depth of knowledge about capital markets, backed up with a proven precedence and relevant experience or those employed simply because their names are included in a 'list' sent from Abuja?

We need to be very objective in our analysis. What you have failed to understand is that if she is left to work without any form of interference, some of our so called senators will be indicted in the whole fiasco.

This is the same problem that AMCON is battling with presently. They cannot chase after the non performing loans acquired from banks because majority of these loans were taken by coys owned by politicians either directly or by way of proxy. This is one of the reasons why they usually frown at any attempt to change the status quo.

I quite agree that she sounded a little bit brash but I also think that her composure is still far better of that madam Ndi. I just pray that we won't compromise the potentials of our future generation with the way things are going.

God bless Nigeria!

that oteh woman sounds very ok as per IQ but i don't think she has respect for any body, the way and manner she talks depicts her kind of person, though,i'm not saying she should not be vociferous and vituperative but she has to show a little bit of courtesy and decorum otherwise she will fall inside a very hot okro soup

I watched her first probe and this one.
It is obvious that the woman is very arrogant, secretive and cant answer straight questions.
She obviously lead the Exchange like a dictator without carrying her Commissioners along.
Her 1st class in UNN,degree from harvard and decades of experience in NYSE took a big chunk out of her Human Relationship.
She is a failure in Nigeria. She can return to New York.
We are even tired of our Yankee trained technocrats.Chimaroke mbadinuju,Bankole,Aganga, etc all remind me of perpetual failures.
