If this is the basis of their disagreement, then I maintain my earlier position that ACN politics on this issue is not smart politics.

I hope they can reconsider their stance and work to build consensus. There is still time.

I see no reason why they cannot work together across party lines on most of these initiatives, except there's more to it than what I'm reading here. I'll like to read their response to this.

My resistance to Action Congress of Nigeria’s forced conscription. Olusegun Mimiko

Excerpt from Ondo State Governor, Dr. Olusegun Mimiko’s interview with TheNEWS’ team of ADEMOLA ADEGBAMIGBE, TOKUNBO OLAJIDE and IDOWU OGUNLEYE

What is your current relationship with the opposition Action Congress of Nigeria, especially given your history with some its leaders?

The disagreement we have is that the Action Congress of Nigeria, ACN, said I should leave the Labour Party and join ACN, and I have insisted that there is no reason I should leave the Labour Party.

I have been very fortunate; I have changed party twice. And yet I’ve not lost the people. It is because there were reasons for me to change party. When I was leaving the Alliance for Democracy, it was clear to everybody in Ondo State why I had to leave.
When I left, some people left with me. When I was leaving the PDP, it was clear to everybody that I had to leave and look for another platform. I have no reason now to leave Labour Party for ACN. That is the point of disagreement.

And I have always pointed out that if there are areas where we share same values, we can collaborate. I believe in state police for example. Whatever coloration of party you are in, if you believe in state police, I would be able to collaborate with you for us to be able to actualise it in the course of constitutional amendment. I believe that we must decentralise power to a very large extent in Nigeria.

I believe the smaller, the better. I believe that the resources of the federal government can be devolved to the states and local governments for better and effective utilisation.

And when we talk of economic integration, the point I have always made is absolutely clear. When we talk of integration, what are you talking about? The sub-structure. The sub-structure in the integration is that we are all Yoruba people, we speak the same language. Because of common history and heritage, our worldview and value system are the same. The aspirations of an Ekiti, an Ondo and an Ogun man are the same. They are ready to give everything they have to educate their children, so they can be greater than them.

Then we have geography. Because of these common features that integrate us, we can create an economy of scale in some of our economic endeavours that would improve our fortunes. But it’s not the same thing as political integration. And this must be made clear. Even if there is going to be any political aspect of this integration, it must be a recognition of the fact that the people must be given the right to determine who leads them at any point in time.

Once we agree on all of these, then we can collaborate. But when people say, willy-nilly, they are going to capture a state, I think that belongs in the realm of the past. We should develop the democratic mindset and let the will of the people prevail.

Compare and contrast this mans intelligence, carriage and wisdom with Aregbesola's bush attitude and you will understand why there are huge problems.

@^^ Waoo ! This man(Mimiko) must be one of the brightest new generation politicians in Nigeria especially in the South-West where every political jobber seem to shamelessly invoke the name and "spirit" of Awoism without the modicum of humility let alone having the inherent discipline of the Great Man(Awo).
Thank you Kilode?! for posting "an insight into Mimiko's political/economic thoughts. If only we had more of such Characters in political office/ places.

Aregbesola considers this thought process too complicated and sophisticated that he thinks Mimiko cannot be an 'omoluabi'.
I fully subscribe to Mimiko's political philisophy. He fully understands world class democracy.

Mimiko (The Iroko) is the type of leader we need not those "Rascals" and some corrupt, religiously bigotted s/w politicians who claimed to be progressives.

He is a true omoluabi.

Mimiko is truly a great man. I know of his health reforms and other policies working in Ondo state. ACN are fighting so hard to discredit him especially Aregbesola. I love Fashola because he doesn't have time to work against people but Aregbesola truly behaves like a tout.
Re: My Resistance To Action Congress Of Nigeria’s Forced Conscription - Mimiko by Bontee: 2:56pm On May 19, 2012
He spoke the truth and nothing but the absolute truth, ACN just wants everyone to believe that they are the only good alternative out there for southwest.

Here's some facts about the most popular ACN Governors:

Governor Adams Oshiomole (Edo State):

He was born into the humble family of Alhaji Aliyu Oshiomhole of blessed memory and Alhaja Aishetu Oshiomhole.

Governor Babatunde Fashola (Lagos State):

Hand picked by Asiwaju to become the Lagos State governor in Dubai during a lesser Hajj trip

Governor Rauf Aregbesola (Osun State):

True blue Alhaji

Governor Ibikunle Amosun (Ogun State):

Always present in Asiwaju's annual assembly in Dubai

Governor Abiola Ajimobi (Oyo State):

Supports sharia with pride - a true believer

Mimiko is full of crap, he can't fit in ACN. Conscription ko, assimilation ni.

@^^ Well, you can figure that out yourself by comparing his(Mimiko) political philosophy/thoughts with that of so called "big" men/women of the ACN and other political parties in Nigeria. Human beings make, populate and determine the general direction/worldview of a political party. "Birds of the same feather flock together".
Re: My Resistance To Action Congress Of Nigeria’s Forced Conscription - Mimiko by babapupa: 4:39pm On May 19, 2012
This man is not making any sense. You have the same idea, the same plan, the same Outlook, the same language, the same culture and value system, but you still believe in disunity, you still believe in seperation and divided strength.

Sounds retarded. I guess this clueless man doesn't believe in the phrase "there is strength in numbers.

His days as the governor of that state are numbered anyways.

You carefully left out Fayemi just to reinforce your subliminal message .
Tinubu and his friends are not that daft

@Topic
Mimiko is unstable and may just be the man to let pdp back in the region and that's my only fear.No matter how dis pointing Acn has been so far, they are still far better than pdp (lona egbefa!).
It would have been lovely if he had built the labour party as a strong opposition to Acn.
I would vote Acn anyways if I had the chance

ACN just wants everyone to believe that they are the only good alternative out there for southwest.

@^^ It's such "herd"/ follow follow mentality, by some Southwest politicians and followers that undermine "democracy". It allows for the general "gross" impression, that the Southwest politics is ethnically based/motivated ever since Awo's time, because disparate opinions/views does not seem to be tolerated or accepted amicably unlike in other political zones in Nigeria hence the usual blood bath/violence/crises in the old and new Southwest. If only they can tone down their hollow headed critisms/rhetorics of their political opponents and concentrate on their own "actions/positive" service to their constituency just like Fashola is doing in Lagos state and the Servant leader in Niger state. Politics is not "Do or Die" affair. Ironically, It is very shameful that it is a prominent son of the Southwest, a former President(OBJ) that proclaimed/affirmed" such inane philosophy of "Do or Die" politics, as an "acceptable" face of Nigerian(Southwest) political life(sphere) in recent times just like the bad old days of the first republic. I hope that politicians like Mimiko and Fashola will be the norm and true acceptable face of positive politics in Naija(southwest). We don't have to hold the same opinions/views nor share the same "style" in doing things but Service and Results we can see, should be paramount at all times in our(Politicians) actions/vision.

Bro you are right! cool
Re: My Resistance To Action Congress Of Nigeria’s Forced Conscription - Mimiko by NegroNtns(m): 12:26am On May 20, 2012
Mimiko's liberalism does not favor the Yoruba nationalism. We must remain alert to the National impulse and stick to conservatism for West. The fundamental unit of political representation for Yorubas must be under the banner of the ACN. Collectivism, not individualism!! Mimiko's pontification is unacceptable!!

Good to see you here after a long absence. se dada ni e wa, eyin ati awon ara ile Obama?

Frankly, I believe Yoruba people deserve a better leader than Tinubu who recently claimed that he is god to the SW people.

I join good Nigerians in congratulating Mimiko who refuses to be pushed around by Oju yobo. I predict that the next person who will revolt against Tinubu is Aregbesola.
