Paolo Gabriele, a layman who lives in the Vatican city, was arrested on wednesday carrying confidential documents Vatican spokesman the Rev Federico Lombard said. Gabrielle is often seen by Pope Benedict XVI side in public, riding in the front seat of his open- air- jeep or shielding the pontiff from the rain. He has been the Pope`s personal butler since 2006. The “Vatileaks” revelations have embarrassed the Vatican at a time when it is trying to shed its reputation as a scandal-plagued tax haven. Documents leaked have undermined that, with allegations of corruption as well as internal bickering over efforts to show more transparency in its financial operations
