For me is a welcome idea, but the bannin should not involve civil servants, the CIVIL SERVANTS can be identify by their identity card on the road, very soon alot of workers will be force to come to the office late which can result to query and even sack!!!

for those living in jos and bukuru, what is your take on the issue of bannin, especially civil servants with bike cos is not going to be easy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The ban on the use of commercial motorcycles (Okada) within the Jos metropolis is to begin today, the Plateau State Government and security agencies announced in a joint press briefing in Jos yesterday.

The announcement came against a decision by the Amalgamated Commercial Motorcycle Owners and Riders Association of Nigeria (ACOMRAN) not to advise its members to obey the ban.

“The Plateau State Government wishes to announce that with effect from June 12, 2012, commercial motorcycles are banned from operating within the Jos Greater Master Plan,” the state Commissioner for Information, Abraham Yiljap, said during the joint briefing at the state Police Command in Jos.

The banning of okada in Jos has a +ve & -ve impact. On d +ve side, there's goin 2 be a boost in d security aspect of d state. Of course we've heard alot of cases of okada boys killing ppl wit guns & matchets. On d other hand, there's gona be serious unemployment on d part of youths, as som of dem found dis biz as their only sources of income. However, i jst hope dat d govt will luk into d whole thing & provide a more comfortoble & appealing condition that wil favour both sides, (security & youths).

making thousands of innocent okada riders jobless while you actually know those involved. brainless governors! why not ban islamic religion? why not ban every religious gathering? why not raid mosques where these ammunition are hidden? c o w a r d s, you might perhaps ban cars because BH use cars.

I don't support the banning of okadas reason being that 95% of going up and down on Plateau is done with okadas, moreso, what will the okada riders, spare parts sellers, etc fall back on?Beheading a head is not the antidote to headache.I was told bikes are still working in the Muslim dominated areas while the Christisans are actually suffering for this,is there no two sides to a coin?I want Gov. Da Jonah Jang an d everyone concern to look critically into this issue.Am about going to Terminus now but i can't but do with okada.GOD BLESS PLATEAU,HOME OF PEACE AND TOURISM

For reasons unrelated to the peculiar situation obtainable in jos, i rarely patronise commercial motorcyclists. However, i'm not so sure the ban's such a good thing.

For one, while taxi fares are usually less expensive, the bikes are more readily available. Most students will tell you what a hard time they have walking from Abuja hostel to Naraguta gate when taxicabs are scarce, simply because the school barred bikes from coming into hostel premises.
Commercial motorcyclists, wherever they exist, are typically ubiquitous. Not to mention their size which helps them slip through hold ups. Very handy when you ain't got energy to burn, or when time is of the essence.

Motorcyclists are also about as much of a security risk as taxi drivers. In fact,
some of my friends argue that while it would be considerably easy to reach over and snap the neck of a would-be cutthroat motorcyclist, one would be well nigh cooked if trapped in a locked taxi with a murderous driver and conspiring passengers. Hehehe

Besides, hasn't this move been made once before? Why did it end in clumsy failure then? Is there a chance that those red-eyed ogogoro-guzzling malo mercenaries will meekly haul their butts to Chad to set up subsistent livestock farms with the money they've saved riding iron horses? I think not. After all, what have they got scimitars taped to the underside of their fuel tanks for?

Like the UJ admin, the plateau state government appears to have a knack for taking ill-advised decisions that achieve little more than introducing a new misery to an already disagreeable state of affairs.

Let the state government be ready to battle an outburst of armed robbers. Banning of okada where 70% of the youth depends on it for a living is like inviting the devil himself to your dinner. When those boys are busy with their okada, they will not think of any evil 'cos they are getting something out it. But when you take their source of livelihood away from them, then your openely inviting chaos in the state.

Its a welcome development, but the palliatives initiated by the state govt is not yet enough for the enforcement of this ban.
It could have been 1 keke napep to say 2-4 okadas. The citizens are really feeling the pinch with a lot of trekking and hikes in fares by those keke (marwa)napep boyz!
