Now that was when "English" was written in "English".  These days---you can't really tell.

Good job BernieBoy. No, it is not a crime to be a "Chase Addict".

dude, i've read just tiger by the tail but when i was almost at the end, i dumped it coz it didn't make anymore sense. but i think i could learn to like it later nd i must admit dat Mr. Chase is a good writer
Re: James Hardley Chase Addict by almondjoy(f): 9:58am On Nov 15, 2007
Really. Some books had relevance in certain times and contexts. JHC novels would not be fun to read now. Too many other modern novelists with contemporary themes now. Too many but JHC will always remain in a class of his own. kiss

And here I am trying to beat your record only to realise that someone has gone a step further. I've just finished novel no36 titled WANT TO STAY ALIVE. My favorite character has to be Mark Girland followed closely by Corridon. My record time for digesting an Hardley Chase novel is sixteen hours, is yours any better.

Re: James Hardley Chase Addict by iniowei: 4:28pm On Nov 20, 2007
Whats all the fuss about Hardley Chase, I think he's good but not as good as you guys make him look, whatever happened to the likes of John Grihsam, Sidney Shelton and the rest.
Re: James Hardley Chase Addict by bookruman(m): 9:35pm On Nov 20, 2007
iniowei, the writers that you mentioned are good, but my James Hardley Chase's style is unique. My guy will make you a "chase-junkie" once you read one of his novels. Any of his novels is 300%
more addictive than pure Columbian cocaine.

That was telling him, and how he needed to be told. I've read a couple of Sidney Shelton novels, quite alright but nothing compared to my beloved Hardley Chase. Men that guy is good, and how I love those slangs HE uses.

Just finshed novel no 40 titled Eve, and again Hardley Chase shows why he is considered to be the best crime writer ever.
Re: James Hardley Chase Addict by Nobody: 4:46am On Dec 11, 2007
Wow poster is running madoooo grin

Anyway I've read
the flesh of the orchid
The guilty are afraid
Just another sucker
The sucker's punch
The whiff of money

I've read others but I can't remember. My best is actually The flesh of the orchid and I was still in JSS 3. It was my first (even in death that wicked guy-I can't remember his name-could not give up trying to kill the slightly mad girl).

My mother happened to catch me reading the novel. I was very surprised she didn't say anything about the pictures on the book cover. And I still thank God, If not, shocked shocked shocked shocked
Re: James Hardley Chase Addict by Nobody: 4:50am On Dec 11, 2007
I would also like to thank my friend Maria for digging into her father's archives and shipping those books listed above to me in JSS 3. smiley smiley smiley

Hardley Chase novels will not drive anyone mad, so keep on reading guys. Wish you all a happy festive season.
Re: James Hardley Chase Addict by Nobody: 2:52pm On Jun 23, 2008
I've read most of Chase's books . . . too numerous to list here, I've probably read more than the poster! However, my all time favorites are:

I hold the four aces,
Tiger by the tail,
No orchid for Miss Blandish
I hold the world in my pocket
You find him, I’ll fix him
Do me a favor, drop dead
The vulture is a patient bird
I would rather stay poor. . .

I'll read them over and over again.
Re: James Hardley Chase Addict by Dahi: 10:33am On Oct 21, 2010
Bernieboy,
I thought I was the best with Hardley Chase. Are you really sure all those are Hardley Chases. Some of them I have honestly not heard of.
I am surprised none of you junkies have mentioned Al Barney, the beach bum with "an ear to the ground" He really was one of the most hilarious of JHC characters.
