Institutional Accreditation: Bayero University Shines!

As the National Universities Commission [NUC] released the result of its 2011 Institutional Accreditation of Nigerian Universities, Bayero University, Kano has once again written its name in gold in the annals of University education by retaining its top spot among the Nigerian Universities.
The National Universities Commission [NUC], which conducted the Institutional Accreditation in various Universities Nationwide late last year [2011], from 27th November – 2nd December, 2011 and conducted the exercise.
In a letter containing the result of the exercise, the NUC Executive Secretary, Prof. Julius Okojie said based on the exercise conducted across the Nigerian Universities, Bayero University, Kano scored 71.10 percent with full accreditation which is valid for 7 consecutive years. Prof. Okojie congratulated the University for recording yet another milestone in University education in Nigeria.
It should be noted that during the NUC November/December Institutional Accreditation Exercise in Nigerian Universities, the Commission evaluated Institutional vision, mission and strategic goals; institutional governance and administration, resources, quality of teaching / learning and research; institutional efficiency, extension services and consultancies, transparency, financial management and stability, as well as general ethos. Bayero University, Kano was able to get 71.10 percent full accreditation status.
On the other hand, the former Economic and Financial Crimes Commission Chairman and the ACN Presidential flag bearer at the 2011 general elections, Malam Nuhu Ribadu, has tasked the entire University community to intensify prayers, owing to the security challenges facing the tertiary institutions in Nigeria.
The former anti-graft czar said what befell the University recently was destined by God. He averred that it was tragic and uncalled for to attack a high profile University like Bayero University, Kano by some unknown people at a time when the University was increasingly becoming a leading light and transforming into a reference point of University education in Nigeria. While praying for those who lost their lives, the former EFCC boss comforted the University to be patient and take the unfortunate incident as a will of God.
Responding, the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Abubakar Rasheed, MNI, said normal activities have since resumed in the University. Represented by the Deputy Vice Chancellor [Academics], Prof. Muhammad Yahuza Bello, the Vice Chancellor, appealed to all and sundry to assist the University in prayers. He stressed that the University has made frantic efforts to improve the security situation in both campuses of the University.
