I don't seen to get it, as everybody now is flowing with this trend of calling Pastors and theirs wives "daddy and mummy" . Please, I want to know what's going on. Is it that we are all brainwashed or it is just a Yoruba thang, sycophancy and eye service? I need answers men!

It's a Yoruba thing. We call everybody older and close to us inappropriate titles like Daddy, Mummy, Big Mummy, Aunty, Uncle etc...I wouldn't worry too much about it.

wrong analogy and misrepresentation of yoruba culture.

But it's true!!! I know because I am full-blooded Yoruba! I have like a thousand aunts and uncles and at least a dozen Mummies and Big-Mummies! It's just the way the culture is! We Yoruba people give titles to show respect! You would know this if you were Yoruba or if you had basic cognitive skills. grin

My initial reply was NOT an analogy. It was an explanation. Stop confusing the two. You clearly don't know what an analogy is.

@op its a sign of respect its not a yoruba thing. Many states in Nigeria call their pastors daddy/mummy as their head. I call my pastor/elderly women mummy And elderly men daddy. Its just a sign of respect. when I was in school we do call our fellowship leader mummy despite she was young. Calling pastors daddy/mummy has nothing to do with tribe its just a sign of respect.

That's like saying sugar mummy is a yoruba term.

@moremi2008.

Some of you folks don lost long time!

Yorubas also call everybody "egbon". Try to translate that!

I cannot bring myself to call anyone other than my parents mommy or daddy. For some reason I personally find it repulsive, same way I detest addressing others with the brother and sister title.i.e Brother John or Sister Mary. In many parts these forms of endearment are popular and perhaps innocently used yet they make my skin crawl. Something isn't just right with it, something. . .
