http://www.thenationonlineng.net/2011/index.php/mobile/news/51445-stay-away-from-s-west-opc-warns-boko-haram.html

The Oodua People’s Congress (OPC) yesterday warned Boko Haram insurgents to steer clear of Yorubaland.

Dr. Frederick Fasehun, Founder and President of the Congress (OPC), said, although Boko Haram’s current agitation justified OPC’s age-old demand for a Sovereign National Conference, his organisation would  view the exporting of violence into the South-West as a declaration of war.

He said while the OPC sympathises with those who have causes to embark on, “local struggles for social-justice should be contained within local boundaries.”

He added: “Any extension beyond such boundaries clearly connotes the pursuing of a territorial ambition; and any people provoking other people through territorial ambition should ultimately expect a war. And in warfare, everything and anything is fair.

“OPC’s message should be clear to sponsors of the ongoing violence in our country. They should not unnecessarily jeopardize their own lives, their businesses and their other interests in the places where they currently enjoy peace. Yoruba people are not unaware of their addresses and their business interests throughout the South-West. A word is enough for the wise.

“Last year, the bodies of Yoruba graduates serving their fatherland in the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) were brought home to us. OPC takes this opportunity to alert governors of the South-West on the need to take immediate measures to preempt and prevent the killing of our youths participating in the NYSC. The same advice goes to Yoruba indigenes residing in the North; they must do the needful to avoid danger overtaking them in the land of their sojourning.

Yoruba Governors will intervene and provide alternatives for our young graduates posted to serve in volatile areas. Similarly, the Governors have no evacuation programme to rescue Yorubas caught in these danger zones. The individual is empowered to act proactively and use discretion for their own safety.

Bokoharam don't have time for the south just yet. When they're ready to move their merchandise southwards, they will do it and nothing will happen. The only change that will occur is that Cotonou will double in population because of the number of Lagosians that will be running as long as their legs can take them.

Afam,

If what they have done in the North so far is anything to judge by, it is evident they are focus on Igbos. It is their aim to bring Sharia to Alaigbo. When they do descend to the South as you said, how are you going to handle that, seeing how reckless you have handled your refugees from the North so far?

In other words, SW Governors are not making any evacuation plans for Yoruba people caught in the cross fire (not even asking the to come home). Those who are able to travel back to yorubaland should do so, those who are unable to are on their own? Na wa o

igbos are the greatest casualties among the southerners affected by boko haram so far. Yet, they prefer to stay in the north or move to south west. The reason could be attributed to the fact that their native land, i.e south east of Nigeria is:

1. Over-crowded
2. Infested with diseases,
3. Having no or very little economic opportunities,
4. Socially backward
5. Having rampant cases of kidnapping
6. Higher rate of armed robbery than anywhere else in Africa
7. tradittionaly known for cannibalism. The darker ones among the igbos prefer not to go back to states like Imo, Abia, and Ebonyi as they would be barbequed.
8. Land-locked.

It is therefore more reasonable for them to claim other people's land.

You have just informed us how inferiority complex has dealt with you all these years.

Be a man, its not compulsory that you must comment when you don't have anything meaningful to contribute.

Anyway, thanks for helping us to know that having reading and writing skills are not necessarily what intelligence and common sense are all about.

I may not be better than you but at least learn when to read and pass. To cap it all, your comment have made me to waste some valuable time of my life correcting you.

I feel the SW is pretending. The SW states have no border patrols by NPF and I sense this is an invitation for BH to strike. As at yesterday, osun state, Ekiti state, oyo state and Omuaran axis of Kwara state has no NPF patrolling their inter-state roads. These I see as an invitation to BH to strike and hence re-incite the people to call for a sovereign national conference.

it's simple, if you're from d east, it's jes as a result of the psychological imprint caused by d upshot of threats without action alwys posed by your people. You're bound, to think that way!
