The Kano State Police Command said the Joint Security Task Force (JTF) killed 17 gunmen and arrested three others when the insurgents attacked security formations in the state on Tuesday.

The Commissioner of Police in Kano State, Alhaji Ibrahim Idris, gave the figures, while briefing newsmen in Kano on Wednesday

Idris said that three assault rifles, 220 live ammunition and large quantity of drugs and syringes were recovered from the attackers.

He the security agents had also defused 14 Improvised Explosive Devices (IED) planted by the assailants.

He said the security operatives recovered five motor vehicles, three motorcycles and N100,000 cash in one of the vehicles abandoned by the gunmen.

``On Tuesday in the evening some extremists launched sporadic attacks with bombs and assault rifles on Dala Police Division, Panshekara Division, Jakara Police barracks, and 52 Squadron, Challawa,” Idris said.

According to him, the extremists, who were about 30 in number attacked the police on duty with assault rifles and IEDs and the policemen gallantly repelled the attacks.

The commissioner said that 10 of the gunmen were killed and three others arrested at Dala Division.

He, however, added that a policeman, Corporal Saidu Umar, was killed by the attackers, who also injured Sgt. Baba Williams on his left arm.

At the Jakara Police Barracks, he said, the gunmen threw explosives at a disused police out-post, and shattered part of the structure, but policemen on guard killed two of the attackers.

Idris also said the “extremists had attempted to attack Goron Dutse Prison Yard, but the men on duty repelled the attack with no loss of life or property''.

He said that another group of extremists attacked 52 Squadron and Panshekara Police Division around 20.30 hours, but both attacks were repelled.

He said that five gunmen were killed, while another suspected extremist was killed at a private residence in Sabuwar Abuja, in Panshekara where explosives went off.

Idris further said that some explosives went off in a classroom at Sabuwar Doka Junior Secondary School in a suburb of Ungogo Local Government Area of Kano, around 20.00 hrs, but that there was no loss of life or injury. (NAN)

lol no mind the name. I actually think what they said in this case is true because the officer gave details of how the terrorists were killed, plus what was recovered at the different times/places they were nailed.

mindless of wat u tink, i know dat d outside sentiment, Nigerian soldiers remain a courageous millitary outfit dat i hv cum 2 trust over d yrs n recently i also got sum gud reasons 2 like our SSS. Imagine them killing innocent citizens with stray bullets and labeling them as Boko haram. They should tackle the problem better than this!

I watched a documentary on the performance of Gombe State government and the engagements of jobless youths, something like what lagos state is doing by formation of Lastma. Those youth in Gombe State numbering over 10,000 ore more are jobless, not learning skills, not able to even read or write. They could not even say "come" in English...I was scared to my bone marrow, if North is like that... There is fire on the mountain, I just wish their state government engage them and teach the parents to stop giving birth to kids for now, and train the ones they have. Extreme backwardness in the North caused by their parents, leaders, et all.

Most would of been armed with explosive devices in which they toss in the direction of security forces, not rifles; they'd toss their explosives and then run away.. unless they've been chosen to be suicide bombers, in any case.. I can tell when a story is fishy, and this doesn't seem to be one.
