think about it, the house, the car, and everything else. do you really own it ? or are you just in possession of it for a while and then when you pass on, someone else gets ownership of it. do we really own anything ?

Nobody owns anything on this earth, not even the deity you believe in and worship. They are all met here and will be left behind. Everything one have here are just illusions anyway. They are not real. They come and they go, everything.

you are right. which beggars the question. why does 'contentment' seem to elude mankind ? they want more and more of what they will never actually own. its crazy. so many lives have been broken by discontentment. trying to keep up with the joneses syndrome.

Oboy these days contentment is a doctrine that has become out dated in many christian denominations......

Today its prosperity and get everything syndrome....

1 timothy 6:6-10 are verses that are scarcely read in churches today...

But contentment is 1 thing that if we practice,thus can lead to eternal life.........

As for me I intend living a content life......

Its never my aim to be wealthy...I'm never determined to be rich because its gonna be waste when I die....

I'm surprised by the sorts of illogical answers posted here. How can you say "We own nothing, We are just borrowing.." I've been going to school since i was 6 years old, been through primary, secondary, university, now i have a masters degree, only to come on here to be told "i don't own my qualifications". Really?? Did somebody "dash" me these qualifications & certificates? did i not earn them by spending money, studying through pain, fear & tears & sleepless nights, eventually gaining the qualifications as witnesses to my achievements?? Well, if not me, then who owns them? let them step forward & prove that it was them & not me who registered & took the tests & exams, etc.

This is surely mal-practice of philosophy.

My life is my experience and my experience, at the end of the day, is only an illusion i'm having. So the answer to your question is, YES, it is an illusion. The only thing that is real is ME, the awareness itself, the consciousness, the one that is seeing.

YOU ARE RIGHT, i was talking about material things. but this can also apply to worldly knowledge. scripture says For the wisdom of this world is foolishness to God.

there is no learning without the physical nature, that is the evidence of learning & ownership.

while you are on earth for an average of 90 years you need activities to keep you busy for 90 years or you will be bored. earthly education is one of those activities. they are time fillers. they make you feel like your 90 years had a purpose. in actuality, it was all a waste of time. time filler. however it is necessary for structure in life. but its all vanity.

All a waste of time? in comparison to what? do you have another system of experience(besides your imaginations) to which you compare this current existence and have judged this one to be a "waste of time"? If so, please do share with us, some evidence or proof would help too.

As long as you exist, you own everything you have achieved, you can proof they are yours because you can narrate your experiences while working to accomplish those goals. No two persons have the same life-experience, your experience testify to your works, therefore you own the "fruits" of your works, to say otherwise is very illogical. Okay, If i'm borrowing, can the real owner please step forward.

this will constitute a well spent 90 years on earth. however it will not be possible in the gentile kingdom because we are subject to payments ( LAMENTATIONS 5 VS 4 )

HOWEVER this will be a full life. eat the best of foods, drink the best of wines, quality time with your nuclear family and enjoy communion with the lord through his holy spirit ( the words in the bible ), enjoy participating in some sports you are passionate about. now that would be a well spent life.
