Is It Idolatry To Use Pastors' Pictures On Church Banners? by FXKing2012(m): 5:19pm On Jul 09, 2012
I have been wondering why some churches always use the picture of the founding pastor of the church on all church posters and banners. Why do I have to go to Christ Embassy church or Winners Chapel and find the picture of Pastor Chris or Bishop Oyedepo on the banner? Is this wrong and is it idolatry? Why not replace those pictures with that of Jesus since we are not there to serve or worship the pastor.
Also, is it idolatry to turn your hair into curls simply because the pastor does the same?

Let us know your thoughtS.

P.S: This is not an invitation to bash any church or MOG.

Delafruita: is it idolatory to have the statue of Jesus in front of you while praying?

To worship an image (any image) is idolatry. Worship any object is idolatry (worship the Bible also is).
Christianity has its own doctrine. It is just a division of Catholicism a cult.
Christianity, in addition to idolatry, takes elements of various pagan cults, and uses them in their rituals.
Looking at the Liturgy, there are many elements in Christianity that are directly transplanted from witchcraft.

I have my opinion on the issue but cannot say it for fear being at risk of judging highly venerable men of God. grin grin grin.
How about that for an answer FXKing2012?

On a more serious note, the shot answer is that the practice is idolatry.

it cannot be idolatry, since idolatry means that you believe the person or object of your respect is the god himself, rather than an anointed or a point of contact to god. If one believes such practice to be idolatry, then it would mean that virtually all christian rituals would qualify as idolatry then, such as laying of hands, holy-water, treating the bible as holy, respect for the MOG, etc.

Exactly.
So are the Christian cults.
Idolatry means worship, the object or what the object represents.
For Catholics, a cross represents a moment ern life of Jesus ... The cross is not God, but adored by what it represents.
Christian cults, use pagan elements, and in many cases related to witchcraft. That too is idolatry (and if I may, is witchcraft)

It is totaly wrong to use the picture of a man of God on a banner or any other things.the bible is against it, I never know where they learnt all that nonsence allmost all the men of God does that, even that picture or the image they called jesus, who told them that, that person is the real jesus. And again those men of God are proud, if not why do they alowed their pictures to be on a banner, if not the spirit of pride manifesting in their live.our lord Jesus is humble if they are trully servants of God why do they not posses that same spirit.

hey ma, I am thoroughly disappointed at your response.
I have seen you comment here severally and have also grown to revere you as not only knowkedgeable but spiritually matured but you disappoint me with this you just wrote.
The poster is asking an important question that touches on the hearty of christianity.
By the way, this 'do not touch my annointed ' slang is now rather boring. The splitting of the veil that separated the holy of holies at the death of JESUS signifies that we are all anointed.
So please stop quoting heretic analogies. You are as graced as any Bishop.
Pay careful attention to this passage of the bible in Galatians 2:12-13.
Paul clearly rebuked peter for his hypocrisy. Peter was the leader of the disciples and even had his name rubberstamped by jesus as the foundation for his church but paul, a man who just got converted and had no history whatsoever did rebuke with a bid to correct peter who walked with Jesus, had supper, prayed with him.
The reason is that we are all priests now so please stop spewing rubbish by saying MOG's should not be scrutinised infact, they are no better than the new convert. That is the dynamic's of the grace we enjoy in christ.
He has totally extinguished the levitical order therefore nobody should be subjucated to another under the guise of priest cos, we are all priest's now we are a royal priesthood a holy nation 1 peter 2:9.
And to the OP, the use of picture's on bill board's should be evaluated against john 3:30.
If Jesus must increase while we decrease then, how can we implement this when we keep flooding our street's with life size and giant size posters of mere heathen's?
Some poster's are twice or more as large as the people whoose picture they bear.
When Jesus performed a miracle he asked the recipient's not to announce it.
So many churche's today buying airtime only to advertise the 'miracle's' performed during a revival. When did miracle's become the gospel.
we are such a stubborn bunch we feel we can help God huh? No wonder thing's are even worse than they were in the 70's when more people were unsaved.
The great commision is to preach the good news which is Jesus died for your sin's and he is willing to save you if you give your life to him and then baptise in the name of the father son and holy spirit .
Some will even organise business seminar for christian entrepreneur's SMH.
In conclusion, the reason for displaying such pictures is the need to create a powerful brand which propel's the product being sold. Conversely, it is more of a business strategy leaving me to wonder how the church has suddenly become a public liabilty company whoose financial report is the main concern driving any action or inaction.

The point is the scripture didn't mandate any form of symbols in Christianity. Even the picture used to depict Christ is not the real deal. All these just man-made to give a sense of imagery for their believe but you know different sect with different approach. At the end of the day, we are all Christians with the supreme believe that Jehovah is God and salvation can only be attain through His son Jesus Christ.
Re: Is It Idolatry To Use Pastors' Pictures On Church Banners? by Claus(m): 9:41am On Jul 10, 2012
Acts 4:12 tells us that "there is no other name under heaven given to mankind by which we must be saved".

The truth is that the name of Jesus is the most powerful thing you can put on any poster, billboard etc. I've always imagined seeing posters with the most prominent words being JESUS, written in bold large letters.

Unfortunately, a lot of unnecessary work goes into the branding and marketing of ministries. The real brand is Jesus, and his brand has already been established, all we need to do is spread that brand.

I leave you all with this quote:

"Some continue to make Jesus famous, while some use Jesus to become famous".

Worship is not the physical bowing of one's head.

Its the looking to an entity with adoration as the solver of your problem

Why they say do not worship Money .....when a man is broke and feels he cannot solve his problem ..he worships money

When a man can not get married without running to his pastor to pray over it and tell him if his to be wife is the one .......he is woshiping his pastor

When a woman looks to her husband or kids as the solution to her problems.....she is worshiping them.

This is my opinion!
