The Culture section administration board is working hard to make the Culture section a more enjoyable, neater, and learning conducive place for Nairalanders. However, to make our job easier and your experience more worthwhile, we would like to hear (or, in this case, see) you guys' suggestions. Please feel free to drop off any suggestions as to how the Culture section can be improved.

With this in mind, I'd like to remind everyone that this thread is not meant for complaints. A thread solely dedicated to handling you guys' complaints already exists (https://www.nairaland.com/231979/complaints-notice-thread-serious).

Thanks for your cooperation,

Odumchi.

The major thing to improve upon is the readership attendance in the culture section. How do you go to the front page and see up to 25 topics yet not even one is from the culture section. If the supermods and adm do not visit the culture section, then the mods in this section has to draw their attention. Most threads created at the culture section is more educative than half of what you see in the front pages of nairaland.
Most of us who post here are not encouraged to do so.

You're spot on.

This section has been abandoned by the Nairaland government and this marginalization must stop because we're the ones that produce bulk of the languages that people speak, so we can't be marginalized. Is it until we go up in arms before they'll hear our cries?
Re: Drop Your Suggestions For Improving The Culture Section by ifyalways(f): 8:46pm On Jul 11, 2012
I think a new section should be created, something like "onila and her beauties" section.
The babe is simply unstoppable and this section sometimes become boring and filled with all sorts of cartoon, pictures et all.
Culture section is generally a quiet place though.

Well said Afam, take a look at nairaland front page, there are up to 50 threads there and none is from the culture section. Even that thread on Nsibidi in culture section is more informative than 90 percent of threads in that front page. All the nairaland mods has something to explain about this negligence.
Re: Drop Your Suggestions For Improving The Culture Section by Nobody: 1:54pm On Jul 12, 2012
Is it about drawing traffic or just seeing a topic on the frontpage?

and if i may ask how many pages do onila's topics occupy? because i count enough pages to satisfy everybody's quest for knowledge!
Re: Drop Your Suggestions For Improving The Culture Section by AndreUweh(m): 2:12pm On Jul 12, 2012
Having a thread from culture section in the front page helps to promote, educate and inform the world about Nigerian peoples ways of life. A lot of threads from the culture section are very rich in knowledge and more useful than most topics in the front page of nairaland.
My idea may not be welcomed but the truth has to be told. Most people in culture section are not time-wasters.
Re: Drop Your Suggestions For Improving The Culture Section by Ptolomeus(m): 4:30pm On Jul 12, 2012
I think we all agree that these articles about "beauty of women ..." do not add anything.
Personally, I joined the forum looking for exchanging information on traditions and culture of Africa. But I have observed that very few items that appear on these issues, and when someone writes about culture, the issue drift tribal rivalries, or very few respondents.
We then have two problems:
1. Published articles that are not cultural
2. It seems that the cultural items not necessary to awaken interest.
I have no answer to solve these two problems ... but I feel somewhat disappointed.
We all want a better culture section, but:
We are all ready to write? we are all willing to provide opinions on cultural issues?
If everyone is willing to do, because then if I think my friend Odumchi will have a job rather more simple ...
But if all demand more cultural issues, and then leave the empty thread ... it's better to leave everything as is.
I hope my bad English allows them to understand.
I send warm greetings to all, I am very happy to be with you.

@odumchi, you know I actually didn't want to comment on this thread Cos its just like shooting ones leg.
Funny thing is that those onilas thread somehow spans to 10 or more pages which means that folks are enjoying it.therefore, ignore my earlier submission.
Ptolemus, you are so right !!!
The threads we assume to be of little value gets more traffic so why are we all moaning? Lol
Why then was this thread created, huh?

The point is that those kind of threads are not supposed to be in the culture section

Only a woman can say something so beautiful, poetic, and also true. Thank you for your kindness.

I insist that these threads of "the beauty of the Andalusian woman" are not part of the cultural section. I do not quite understand the purpose. But in turn, as I already said, they have accepted. Vox populi, vox dei!.
In another order, I think it would be very valuable for increasing the real cultural issues, and that depends on ourselves, not the moderators or anyone in particular.
Brothers, let us strive on open threads historical, cultural ... issues that are transcendent ... It should not matter to us if the thread is successful or not ... maybe one day the item was bailed. Also make the effort to support those who open this type of cultural threads, we will intervene, even with a phrase ...
Let the positive: I have seen wonderful yarns, lecturing on history, traditions, general culture ... we support them!
I think the responsibility more is not of the moderators , nor from a fellow who "deviates a bit" of the central themes.
It's in ourselves!
Perhaps for many of you, open a thread on the old traditions Hausa, Yoruba, Igbo ... is unimportant. For me it is fundamental. But we who do try to be a wonderful tool forum for friendly exchange.
Another important issue is that of ethnic rivalries.
If we analyze, understand that beautiful and deep threads are marred by rivalries that contribute nothing to the essence of the pose. It is logical that if someone is hurt on your susceptibility, mark their difference, but it is not logical that an interesting thread degenerates into a discussion about whether a group is inferior to another.
Thank you all for the beautiful friendship that I offer, thanks for the love and accept myself.
I respect and love you all!

Thanks for you guys' feedback.

It seems as if the main issues are traffic and public opinion towards the "beauty" threads. I believe the purpose of any government is to respond to the will of the governed. Michelin and I will consider your suggestions.

It's true that Nairaland accords much attention to its bigger sections and little to its smaller sections, thus we are striving to transform the culture section and award it the attention that it deserves.

Hi again, everyone.

We, the administration, have given consideration to you guys' opinions and suggestions and we have decided to act on them. Our job is to make the culture board more enjoyable for you culture board frequenters, and so we have decided to be responsive to your ideas because we value them.

In an effort to re-design the culture section [for the better], I'd like to formally announce the following changes:

1. The "The Beauty of" threads will be moved out of the culture section.
2. More threads from the culture section will be placed on the home page.
3. We (Michelin and I) now actively encourage you guys to suggest the threads which you think belong on the home page. Please post those suggestions onto this thread: https://www.nairaland.com/1004554/promoting-culture-board-frontpage)

the beauty threads made the culture section more intersting. .there was more traffic. .it also invited our other Africans friends 2 our forum

we got to learn abt other countries culture, way of life and diversity undecided

who advised you to do this
Re: Drop Your Suggestions For Improving The Culture Section by Nobody: 11:24am On Jul 31, 2012
Glad to know you got my message. we have enough of the beauty threads. i tried to update the library yesterday and for every link i added there were two being created. time to focus on promoting other threads in this section. there is a season for everything and that of the beauty threads is over. i insisted to keep them here because they easily led to cultural and tribal discussions which are part of the aspects handled in this board, but they are getting too many.

i suggested an alternative, so let me know.

i ask that this woman not be made moderator, from my short experice talking to her over the phone. i have come to the conclusion that this woman is very power hungry. she will use this power to benefit herself.

also their is a strong likelihood that she is doing this for personal gain, to attack me, to censor me, to deprive me. She must be stopped. This woman is very dark inside, like her name suggest.

culture is not her passion, its her escape from her personal life.
