Ehindero, former IG, in N950m arms contract scam

FORMER Inspector General of Police, Mr. Sunday Ehindero, and his former Commissioner of Police in charge of Budget, Mr. John Obaniyi, have been summoned by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) over their alleged role in a N930 million arms scandal.

Nigerian Tribune gathered that Obaniyi, who is still facing a police disciplinary committee on the N21 million scandal that rocked the force in June, would appear before an ICPC team of investigators tomorrow.

Nigerian Tribune gathered that in June 2006, Vice President Goodluck Jonathan, then Bayelsa State governor, released N930 million to the force to purchase arms and ammunitions for the Niger-Delta crisis.

The source revealed that the release of the funds followed a request from the then Inspector General of Police, Ehindero, to the Bayelsa State government that they were short of arms and ammunition to tackle the crime situation in the area.

Police sources disclosed that the Bayelsa State government then released the N930 million through the former Bayelsa State Police Commissioner, now AIG Hafiz Ringim.

However, the police source said instead of purchasing the arms and ammunition, the money was transferred to the erstwhile Commissioner of Police in charge of budget, Obaniyi, who then opened a fixed deposit account with the money for six months and collected an interest of N40 million.

Nigerian Tribune further gathered that the money was eventually moved from the account in December 2006 for the purpose of purchasing the arms and ammunition.

However, eyebrows were raised in the police circles when it was discovered that up till now, no one knows whether the arms have been purchased or not.

Following the manner in which the transactions were conducted, the force invited the ICPC to investigate the matter to trace the money as there was no evidence that the arms were purchased.

Efforts to get the ICPC to speak on the issue proved abortive as none of its officials contacted was willing to speak on the issue.

Nigerian Tribune also gathered from the Force Headquarters that ICPC had written to the incumbent Inspector General of Police, Mike Okiro, to respond to some of the issues surrounding the purchase of the arms and ammunition.

MAMAJAMA:

Do you remember this post?

Okiro has initiated new salary package for the Nigerian police; Ehindero (aka business police man) on the other hand used the salary package to build personal houses all around the country during his time as the IG.

FYI: It has been confirmed that Ehindero is frightened and not comfortable to return back home for good at this time. He feels that things are currently very hot and unstable at home.
Moreover, he's afraid to answer difficult questions (eg why all the impossible are now possible with Okiro as the IG, what truly happened to the police uniform fund and many more). Therefore, he continues to use fake UN project as an excuse to buy time.
Correction:
He wasn't cleared, in fact there were tons of other corruption allegations that were about to erupt, but he escaped (got his passport) because he agreed to give up the stolen Abuja home (IG official house). It was also confirmed that he  personally begged Okiro not to get EFCC involved during the investigation of one of his corruption allegations.

Message for him: You can run away from everybody, but you can't run away from yourself.
As long as Okiro continues to perform effectively and efficiently, Ehindero will not be in peace.
The same way the Siemens bribe scandal erupt, tons of Ehindero's shady businesses are waiting for him at home to burst at any time.

MAMAJAMA, tell him to continue to deal with the cold weather; I guarantee you that it will not be for too long

MAMAJAMA:

Do you remember this post?

Don't worry, my man.
The smoke is moving very rapidly, it will all be clearer with time.

Do not deceive yourself, Ehindero is far from being disculpated. There are tons of corruption allegations waiting for him at home. Of course, he will be allowed to return and settle before he's captured like a black bush rat.

Okiro on the other hand is not making things easy for this jellyfish (Ehindero); Ehindero's problem multiplies whenever Okiro does his duties effectively and efficiently.
And this is also the major reason why Ehindero's family are very apprehensive when they hear that name "OKIRO"
Re: Ehindero, Former Ig, In N950m Arms Contract Scam by BigB11(m): 3:16pm On Dec 04, 2007
I also believe that bringing Britain to help reorganize Nigerian Police will further open more cans of deadly worms. In fact, this is one of the main reason why MAMAJAMA is absolutely against this bright strategy.

I believe in fair justice and absolutely against selectivity (unlike MAMAJAMA), let's allow the ICPC to finish with the investigation, so that we can hang MAMAJAMA on the electric pole without any hesitation.
Too bad, this investigation is out of Okiro's hands!

Something tells me that sooner or later EFCC will have no choice but to also get involved.
I guess, it is true that the dead cow skin used to beat the first wife will also be used to fck up the second wife, while the third wife runs for cover!
In this case, EHINDERO represents the second wife; the third wife could be anybody (may be OBJ).
Re: Ehindero, Former Ig, In N950m Arms Contract Scam by BigB11(m): 5:36pm On Dec 04, 2007
Yes, the amplitude of Ehindero's involvement with this latest corruption allegation has not yet been determined (and till then I will be fair and try to simmer down).

But, nevertheless, it is amusing how one of his proteges comes here day after day to speculate that Nigerian police are ineffective because of lack of arms, ammunitions and other necessary machineries.
May be this cat (MAMAJAMA) should persuade his hero to cough up some of these funds.

Power Play

Power, like an aphrodisiac, is intoxicating and addictive. Once you have had a taste of it, it becomes difficult for the ordinary person to let go. At the peak of the June 12th Struggle someone made a poignant metaphor that IBB was like a bull in a china shop that had to be eased out carefully. Any discerning adult at that time knew that IBB did not give up the position he had usurped and so viciously consolidated for the love of Nigeria but because he was compelled by the groundswell of opposition from a cross section of the Nigerian populace and the International community. To say otherwise would be to rewrite history. IBB, disgraced out of office by popular opposition to his wiry manipulations, to save face, intoned that he was “stepping aside”. The discerning knew he would try to make a come back. We have not been disappointed.

Often commentators with ulterior motives pretending to play devils advocate, posit that IBB alone cannot be held responsible for June 12 because the decision-making was done in a collegial setting in the PRC. These persons would hope that we have forgotten that IBB, single-handedly fired his ostensible second in command and at one time held all the reigns of power when he also sent packing the PRC and for about a week or two no one in this nation of 120 million souls was sure who was in or who was out of the corridors of power, except IBB. With that kind of power comes full responsibility.

@BIGB! is this why IBB is scared to retire in peace?

haba dont you guys have news paper in Liberia? grin grin grin

Ehindero is the new IGP appointed to revamp the image of the Nigerian police that was badly shattered by balonguns conviction.

He was given extention twice for a job well done, and his deputies who were aspiring to take over from him after the extension started insinuating corruption just to rubish the mans, image and integrity.

He is currently employed by the UN to oversee the development of community policing in Africa by the UN.

His detractors have alleged and try to involved him in multiple curruption charges but they are yet to substantiate their allegation with any credible facts.

BigB1 is only retaliating with this unscrupuls babaric allegation because i am raising awareness of what IBB the evil general did to Nigeria.

thanks mamajama.

Calling him a bastard is an understatement. He is an animal. My dear Depilot, try googling the name Sunday Gabriel Ehindero, and you will read more about how looted the Nigeria Police Force's treasury.

Infact, it was when he sent for a bag that contained a sum of 21 million Naira which he could not remove because of the manner in which he was removed that the first bubble bursted.

Some days ago, he sent for another bag containing millions of naira, but some smart officers intercepted his messengers. The worst of these all is that Ehindero left only 4 million Naira in the Police account.

I will allow you to do your own research on this animal called Ehindero.
Cheers wink

Mamajama, that you are a beneficiary of corrupt practices does not mean that every other person says THE TRUTH for a fee. You seem so confused that you fail to understand certain fundamental issues. Of late, I discovered that your confusion stems from the fact that you are actually under educated. So, I always excuse your stupidity.

If you are not really a cretin, how will you explain how Ehindero - a public servant- can afford to pay hundreds of millions of naira for just a house. You see, sometimes your low level of thinking takes better part of you to the extent that your reasoning becomes worse than that of an animal.

Heaven knows that I don't have anything against you personally. But I will continue to tell you how stupid your reasoning always is as regards Ehindero.

As for your gutter langauges, I will take comfort in the fact that scrupples are not really insitu in all humans.
Merry Xmas!

How many books has Ehindero writteen?

How many loans has Ehindero received from UBA?

how many houses does Ehindero has?

The old IGP house that was speculated he bought for 400 Milion naira is not even worth 10 Million, remember bomboy as i called you. this are government houses, boy go do your home work, or drive a cab for a government official and you will know how the deal goes.

A plot of land in Maitama, where the house is situated goes for over forty million naira. Remember, the house is not part of the non-essential buildings that were sold, how come he paid for it?

Mamajama, Bib B1 is right on one point no mater the books Ehindero as written, i don't believe it will be enough for him to buy a plot of land i Abuja, if books make people millionaires in Nigeria mind you, not in Europe or US, then i believe all our prof should be MEGA MILLIONAIRES by now, cos i am in an academic community where prof are just getting by nothing more all they have is a Little change,(NOT ENOUGH TO BUY A PLOT OF LAND FOR EVEN 10 MILLION TALKLESS OF ONE FOR 4O MILLION) SO i dint believe he made is money from books.

IF that is so then the likes of Prof Soyinka, Achebe should be billionaires judging by the number of books and awards and INTERNATIONAL RECOGNITION they have

PLS tell us some truth and not what u want us to believe,

HOW much loan can UBA give him and based on what collateral will the loans be given remember he is a CIVIL SERVANT IN GOVERNMENT AND NO MATTER HOW HIGHLY PLACED AS A FIXED INCOME AND NOT A GMD/CEO OF A PRIVATE COMPANY, SO HOW WILL HE STRUCTURE SUCH A LOAN,

BANKS ARE THERE TO MAKE MONEY AND NOT GIVE OUT LOANS BASED ON HIS OFFICE OR PERSONAL RECOGNITION

You have finally dug your grave with your own hands. Can you diffrentiate gifts from graft as regards sitting public servants? Your warped and myopic mind is indeed, irredeemable.

Why will people give those in power 'gifts', if not to curry one favour or the other? Why were you given lands? Please, go look for where you actually belong, because this forum is really for those who can reason properly.

Okiro launches fresh probe into Ige, Dikibo, others’ murders

INSPECTOR General of Police, Mike Okiro, on Tuesday disclosed that fresh investigations had commenced into the high profile killings in the country in the last eight years.

Some of the victims were former Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Chief Bola Ige, Chief Marshal Harry, Chief Aminasari Dikibo, Dr. Ayo Daramola and Chief Funsho Williams.

Announcing this while answering questions from newsmen after signing a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Oceanic Bank, Union Bank and Fragend Investment Nigeria Limited to procure 100,000 motorcycles as welfare packages for the rank and file of the force, Okiro said that he made the commitment on assumption of office to unravel the killings.

According to him, “a case is never closed until the culprits are caught and prosecuted. So we have started revisiting those cases and very soon, Nigerians will be told how far we have been able to go.”

He denied that crime was on the increase and challenged those saying so to go to the record and check the crime rate in November 2006, and what the situation was now.

The IGP announced that he had put in place measures to ensure the promotion of officers as it fell due, the payment of the consolidated police salary, which has shot up the pay of a constable to N26,000 per month.

He said that the problem of welfare of officers and men of the force had led to the expansion of police insurance scheme to include supernumerary services, traffic wardens and teachers in police primary and secondary schools and the establishment of police housing scheme nationwide, leading to the purchase of houses and acquisition of parcels of land in about 16 states of the federation and FCT.

The scheme, he said, had a target of constructing about 100,000 housing units for the Nigeria Police Force on owner occupier basis to be financed through mortgage institutions.

Okiro stated that the signing of the MOU with the banks and Fragend Limited, manufacturers of Fragend brand of motorcycles, would ease the personal transportation problems of the men and improve their productivity and efficiency.

Armed robbery has reduced drastically, says Okiro

Wednesday, December 19, 2007
INSPECTOR General of Police, Mike Okiro took a cursory look at the criminal situation in the country yesterday and declared that armed robbery incidents have reduced drastically. Okiro who made the disclosure while signing a memorandum of understanding with a group of banks and a motorcycle firm over the purchase of motorcycles for the rank and file policemen also confirmed that the police will re-open all cases of un-resovled assassinations against prominent Nigerians and politicians as directed by the federal government.

According to Okiro, anybody that says the crime rate in the country is on the increase is not in consonance with the statistics of crime and the efforts the police is putting to stem the trend.

“Armed robbery is not on the increase but the opposite is actually the case.

I can tell you that the rate of crime has been drastically reduced, I know what it was in 2005 and what the crime rate was in 2006".

However, Senior lawyers, yesterday expressed mixed reaction to statement by the Inspector General of Police, Mike Okiro, that crime rate in the country has reduced.

Those who spoke to Vanguard are Chief Emeka Ngige (SAN), Chief Chris Uche (SAN), Chief Charles Edosanwan (SAN), former Edo state Attorney General and Commission for Justice and Dr Dickson Osuala.

According to Ngige, “I think maybe, he is just talking like a person that just returned from abroad, I mean a stranger. What he said is not a reflection of what we have on the ground." It appears that he is not getting information and reports on the daily recorded incidents of crimes from the police formations across the country. If he has been receiving the reports, he will not be talking the way he is talking now." What he may not realise is that the number of non reported or incidented criminal matters is two times more than the reported ones.

And the reason why the unreported incidents of crimes is far higher if he may wish to know is that the people have no confidence in the police. That explains why the IG thinks the way he does, that the rate of crime is reducing”.

Chief Uche on his part said, “the Inspector General of Police has the statistics and I don’t have the statistics to either refute of confirm what he has said, but from what the generality of Nigerians see on the ground and on a daily basis, I believe that is will be difficult to agree with the IG”.

Chief Edosanwan however, said “I believe that Okiro has come with a genuine desire to fight crime and address the vises that is ordinarily associated and aide crime and therefore, all well meaning Nigerians should wish him well for him to reduce crime and enthrone a better Nigerian Police”.

Dr Osuala in his reaction said, “well, there has been rigorous policing recently and I emphasis, recently because it was only recent.
