Mary is in church again today looking as gorgeous as ever; she wears those 6 inch louboutin heels like they don’t hurt her feet at all, her walk exudes confidence, she glances towards me and looks right through me. Am I that invisible Mika thinks in her head? It must be because I don’t dress as good as she does, at least this explains why she approached Ruth with a friendly smile and not me and the seed was sown…Mika begins to imagine how much different her life might be if only she had a bit of what Mary had.
Mika! Mika! Snap out of it, Jenny calls, praise and worship starts in a few seconds and you are leading the team remember? Mika apologizes for she had been caught day dreaming yet again and makes her way quickly onto the stage but before she starts, she takes a quick moment to talk to God about her feelings towards Mary and Mika prays “God, I wish I had all that Mary had, why wouldn’t you bless me like you do Mary? I want to look and feel as beautiful as she does. God please help me understand, I don’t like the way I feel”
Praise and worship begins, Mika sings and the heavens are open; you see God had blessed her with the voice of an angel; the girl could sing down a house.
Mary sits in the front pew staring at Mika in utmost disbelief, she scans her from head to toe and certainly does not approve of her simple dress and her not so hot heels but she knew there was nothing simple about the power in the girl’s voice when she sang; Mary craved that attention and she prayed silently to God “Lord, why do you choose to bless this simple girl over me, I should be up on that stage singing and looking beautiful. I wish I had a voice like that and I could sing your praises forever, if you can hear me Lord, can I have a voice just like Mika’s?”
Both Mika and Mary continue to dream and wish they have each other’s lives, they live with that limitation and constantly struggle to fulfil God’s purpose for their personal lives but you see, both Mary and Mika are blessed but they spend so much time looking across the fence into their neighbour’s garden that they fail to see how much green they have in their own garden.
Your grass might have grown a bit unruly, might need to be pruned here and there and watered for a better appearance but you need to stick with it and work at it because the grass isn’t always greener on the other side.
