The judge says the two banks ought to be charged as Mr Maina's co-accused and their licences withdrawn for their roles in serving as conduits for stealing pensioners’ funds. A Federal High Court judge, Okon Abang, on Monday, revealed the roles two Nigerian banks played in the N2 billion pension fraud perpetrated by a former chairperson of the defunct Pension Reform Task Team (PRTT), Abdulrasheed Maina. https://www.premiumtimesng.com/news/headlines/494175-how-nigerian-banks-helped-maina-to-steal-pensioners-n2-billion-judge.html 5 Likes

“I also want to inform My Lord that I have a tumour which needs to be operated on urgently.”All these politicians use this old format! Maina deserves forever in jail! But because of the shit hole country, he'll be going from his house to prison especially the day they'll have to take pictures in prison uniform. Nigerian banks are scam! If they can make my ₦10000.56 to become ₦9966.00 for no good reason, they are scam. Nigeria on its own na scam! 45 Likes 2 Shares |

The judge said the United Bank for Africa (UBA) and Fidelity Bank Plc were used by Mr Maina as “conduit” to defraud pensioners. “My Lord, I want to apologise for anything that I may have done,” the convict said. This comment says it all. Maina is not even convinced he did anything wrong. He was just unfortunate not to have been protected by his people in high places and only 8 years sentence for destroying the lives of thousands of people . And UBA and Fidelity Bank walk free with no consequences for helping him to launder the money ? This country is finished 28 Likes |

The good thing about the US is they will go after such entities. Until there is significant repercussion for people misdeeds and those who support evil including their online support; this sort of behaviour will continue. 5 Likes 1 Share |

Ordinarily, the banks are his accomplices and should have been tagged defendants as well. But the law of the land favours them indirectly. They will claim innocent. Btw, the 8 years jail term sentence is more of soft landing. A lifetime, or like 25 years imprisonment will be fair. This one that he's even stylishly saying he needs medical leave... 8 Likes |

My grudge in this judgement is the backdating of his sentence to 2019. It means he has already served 4 prison calender years already. That means by 2023, He will be free as bird. O my country. 17 Likes |

Steal 2 billion naira of pensioners money and get only 8 years? Sounds like a fair bargain to me. Steal 2 billion and get out in 8 years. Most people would never make 2 billion in 5 lifetimes. Despite knowing the full implication of Maina's fraud and the pain it caused millions of homes in Nigeria, the Judge only saw it fit to sentence a man who jumped bail twice to only 8 years in prison. Unbelievable!! 21 Likes 3 Shares |

BeeBeeOoh: In a saner clime, people will boycott the services of these banks. It's not too late for the FG to charge the banks. We will be waiting for those silly individuals that will play the "tribe" cards when this happens. You single out the politicians without focusing on the citizens in the public sector that enables their fraudulent activities. May it not be well with Maina and his cohort in this life and afterlife. He lives in opulence on other people's sweat and blood. Damn! 9 Likes |
