Is ENGLISH Our Permanent National Language? by Reflect7: 2:56am On Sep 04, 2023 |
Is ENGLISH Our Permanent National Language? I ask because... we are AFRICANS. We are not Englishmen or Europeans. Do we actually have a PLAN to indigenize ourselves following the colonial interruption? Or have we decided to become black Englishmen permanently? PLEASE, TELL ME NO. We must have a plan to have a national language that is AFRICAN. I hear the AU is considering making KiSwahili the African lingua franca. If so, GOOD. What we CANNOT do is become permanent Europeans. We can even decide here in Nigeria to pick ONE SMALL TRIBE'S LANGUAGE, like say the Berom people or Urhobo, and make it our national language. But we cannot be a nation with ENGLISH as our national language forever. Abi dem swear for us? |

English is our national language and thats what is best for everyone. English is not the US original language but has been adopted too. Why are you looking for chaos? Reflect7: 1 Like |

The problem is, we are stuck with English, because choosing an indigenous language is fraught with the same issues as English. Let's assume we choose Hausa as our national lingo. It's spoken by millions of Nigerians, and not just Hausas. There would be complaints from other tribes, INCLUDING IN AREAS..where hausa is widely used, that the idea would be dropped. So for now we are stuck with English, at least until we get something like an instantaneous translator technology, then each and every tribe would be able to learn and write in their own lingo, and use the instantaneous translator to understand others. Google translate is a small step towards that direction. |

nairalanda1: We can decide to choose a small ethnic group's language, to avoid Hausa/Yoruba/Igbo wahala. That Google stuff won't cut it. Do you think it is normal for Africans to have a permanent imposition of a European language on their countries? I think it's an outrage. I mean.... what? Just because they conquered us with guns a mere century ago, we must now speak their language as our 'national language' permanently? As in.........Permanently?? ARE YOU PEOPLE MAD? |
Re: Is ENGLISH Our Permanent National Language? by Reflect7: 8:15am On Sep 04, 2023 |
DMerciful: Bullcrap. The US was conquered by the Spanish and Anglo Saxons who genocided the native American population, leaving a tiny remnant in 'reservations' today like zoo animals! Majority of folks in the US are descended from the British isles, so they SHOULD speak English. Are you descended from the British isles or anywhere near the British isles, that you want you and future generations to be black Englishmen? |
Re: Is ENGLISH Our Permanent National Language? by DMerciful(m): 8:18am On Sep 04, 2023 |
There are far more Germans in the US than Englishmen. Do your own research. How can anybody propose another language other than English which is the world's official language? Why do you wanna isolate yourself? Reflect7: |
Re: Is ENGLISH Our Permanent National Language? by Reflect7: 8:24am On Sep 04, 2023 |
DMerciful: Don't be ridiculous. Is China isolated? Is Japan isolated? Do they speak any European languages in those countries? Who the hell made English the ''world official language''? Your father? So as you are now as an African, you believe you cannot survive/thrive on this Earth unless you adopt a European language as your NATIONAL language? Do you know it was your ancestors that civilized this world, including Europe? Do you know it was your ancestors who invented speech and writing? Plus architecture, medicine, religion, and the sciences? Look, you people need to wake up. |
Re: Is ENGLISH Our Permanent National Language? by DMerciful(m): 8:31am On Sep 04, 2023 |
Wake up to reality and stop living in the past. Non of Igbo, Hausa, Yoruba will prefer each other's language to be adopted so it becomes chaos within. You mentioned China, Japan but these are very productive and powerful countries, we're not. We don't produce anything tangible so we have no leverage. I'm not talking of European languages, I'm talking of English language that was used to colonised 1/3 of the world 60yrs ago! If you're deluding yourself that fighting with the British and Americans will get you anywhere, you're just not ready to move forward. Even as a country, we hate each other, how much more looking for external enemies Reflect7: |

Reflect7:The problems at hand are not resolved, you are looking for other problems If I am to analyze you, you won't be an organised person no insult intended With the kind of disunity, lack of trust in Nigeria today which language can be the general means of communication Abeg just leave the English alone! We also use it to communicate outside Nigeria as well!!! We are okay with it! Amongst yourselves, you can speak your native dialect!!! |
Re: Is ENGLISH Our Permanent National Language? by Reflect7: 9:37am On Sep 04, 2023 |
Wisereborn: You are talking rubbish. I said CHOOSE A LANGUAGE FROM A SMALL ETHNIC GROUP to avoid the rivalry of the big 3. And where is your DIGNITY as an African in deciding to be black Englishmen in perpetuity? Can’t you see your head is not correct? And it is idiotic to say you need English to be the national language because you use it when you travel. Having an African national language doesn’t prevent you from learning or speaking English or any other language. |
Re: Is ENGLISH Our Permanent National Language? by Reflect7: 9:47am On Sep 04, 2023 |
DMerciful: Wake up and use your blasted brain. Your people have lived on this earth for thousands of years. It was only a century ago that Europeans invaded your land with guns and bombs. And based on that experience, you‘ve now decided that you want to ditch your entire heritage and adopt THEIR LANGUAGE as your official language forever? Can’t you see your head is not correct? Mali, your neighbour that ditched French as its official language, have the heavens fallen? Let me tell you Nigerian dunderhead slaves with zero dignity one thing. The AU will implement a continental AFRICAN LINGUA FRANCA. It is in its Charter, as is eventual Political Unification. Your FUTURE DESCENDANTS will not be speaking English as their national language, Or French. Or Portuguese. I PROMISE YOU THAT. Mentally colonised dimwits with no shame. |

Whatever language they speak would still be borrowed so why focus on inconsequential things. We were living for thousands of years as small kingdoms, no wonder it was easy to colonised us. Again, you're avoiding the fact that we're not united as a country, infact, we have a higher tendency to breakup than unite behind a single language. You're living in an alternate universe Reflect7: |
Re: Is ENGLISH Our Permanent National Language? by Reflect7: 5:09pm On Sep 04, 2023 |
DMerciful: Historical illiterate. We had huge empires in addition to smaller kingdoms. The Mali empire covered 3/4 of West Africa and was among the most prosperous nations on Earth for 500 years. Zero hunger. Zero crime. And they did not speak English or French. They spoke the Mande language. Again, you're avoiding the fact that we're not united as a country, infact, we have a higher tendency to breakup than unite behind a single language. What a STUPID line of reasoning. Has your being supposedly disunited prevented you all from speaking English as your lingua Franca? So why should it prevent you from speaking an uncontroversial language like Urhobo or Berom, if such were selected as the national language? It is YOU living in an alternate universe in addition to being shameless and stupid to think that just because your land was invaded by thieves and mass murderers who burned down your cities and looted your treasures, you must now speak THEIR language as your OFFICIAL language permanently. Where is your dignity as a people? That you even consider that idea reasonable shows you and most Nigerians are thoroughly brainwashed, sick in the head, thoughtless and stupid beyond belief. Like I said, the AFRICAN UNION has in its CHARTER that an African lingua Franca will emerge. THANK GOODNESS THAT DECISION WAS NOT LEFT TO MENTALLY COLONISED NIGERIAN SLAVES LIKE YOU. |
Re: Is ENGLISH Our Permanent National Language? by DMerciful(m): 5:22pm On Sep 04, 2023 |
Why are you barking? You cannot solve unity within Nigeria after 62 yrs of independence but wanna unite Africa. That thing you're taking might land you in trouble. Stop taking substances Reflect7: |
Re: Is ENGLISH Our Permanent National Language? by Reflect7: 5:28pm On Sep 04, 2023 |
DMerciful: NOBODY IS ASKING YOU. WE ARE TELLING YOU, MR SLAVE, THAT YOUR FUTURE DESCENDANTS WILL PROUDLY SPEAK AN AFRICAN LANGUAGE AS THEIR LINGUA FRANCA. WHY? BECAUSE THEY ARE AFRICANS. YOU DIG? STUPID BRAINWASHED MUMU. |
Re: Is ENGLISH Our Permanent National Language? by DMerciful(m): 5:31pm On Sep 04, 2023 |
Put your shirt on! If my future descendants speak any African language, how does that concern me if I'm no longer here? Reflect7: |
Re: Is ENGLISH Our Permanent National Language? by Reflect7: 5:32pm On Sep 04, 2023 |
The first sickness they need to cure from you people is your racial inferiority complex drilled into you by colonial invaders. That’s the root of ALL your problems. |
Re: Is ENGLISH Our Permanent National Language? by Reflect7: 5:37pm On Sep 04, 2023 |
DMerciful: What a stupid, myopic way to think. If you want to copy the west, do so in reasonable things, such as by thinking long term about your succeeding generation and offspring, and plan today with an eye on the future that you may not be here to witness. That’s how you copy them. Not by bleaching your faces, speaking their accents however fake, and looking to speak their language permanently. Do you see the Chinese copying those superficial aspects of the west? NO. They maintain and protect their cultural lane, including their language and traditional religion, while using cunning to acquire some western-type practices they deem useful. BE LIKE THEM. |

Re: Is ENGLISH Our Permanent National Language? by Reflect7: 5:50pm On Sep 04, 2023 |
DMerciful: Do you think if China was divided into 55 countries, each country speaking a European language as its lingua Franca, and influenced by colonial powers, that the land known as China would be anywhere near as powerful, prosperous, and United as it is today? They were also multi ethnic and multi lingual many decades ago till Mandarin was imposed as the national language. MANDARIN, not French or English or German or Spanish. WHY CAN’T YOU REASON LIKE THE CHINESE? Stand up and be proud Africans and stop being a fcking embarrassment to the world. |
Re: Is ENGLISH Our Permanent National Language? by DMerciful(m): 5:58pm On Sep 04, 2023 |
Las las you'll come to the realization that you're trying to go back in time. Move on, the past is gone. The number of people that speaks English will continue to increase, French might decline, i don't care, never liked French. Eventually, the whole of Africa will be speaking English Reflect7: |
Re: Is ENGLISH Our Permanent National Language? by DMerciful(m): 6:00pm On Sep 04, 2023 |
English as a language is not entirely from Britain. There has been additions from other languages over time. Balcony is an Indian word, chimpazee is African etc Reflect7: |
Re: Is ENGLISH Our Permanent National Language? by Reflect7: 6:07pm On Sep 04, 2023 |
DMerciful: In your DREAMS. Slave. Go and read the AU Charter. The decision has been made already about an AFRICAN LINGUA FRANCA. YOUR AFRICAN LEADERS HAVE SIGNED UP FOR IT. It’s just a matter of WHICH language and WHEN. YOUR FUTURE DESCENDANTS WILL SPEAK AN AFRICAN LANGUAGE AND PROSPER, JUST LIKE THE CHINESE ARE SPEAKING MANDARIN AND PROSPERING. EUROPEANS WILL HAVE TO LEARN TO SPEAK THAT AFRICAN LINGUA FRANCA OR THEY WILL BE SHUT OUT OF BUSINESS IN AFRICA, THE WORLD’S MOST RESOURCE-RICH CONTINENT. A NEW SPIRIT IS IN AFRICA, THAT IS REJECTING COLONIAL IMPOSITIONS AND IMPERIALISM. UNSTOPPABLE WAVE. SO GO BACK TO SLEEP WITH YOUR COLONISED HEAD, SO DESPERATE TO REMAIN A COLONY. 2nd class slave desperate to speak English and French. IT IS YOU THAT IS ‘LIVING IN THE PAST’. |

SINCE YOU THINK YOU ARE SO INFERIOR THAT YOU WANT TO SPEAK YOUR WHITE INVADERS’ LANGUAGE FOREVER, WHY DO YOU EXPECT ME TO ADDRESS YOU WITH RESPECT? YOU ARE SELF PROCLAIMED SLAVES. I cannot talk to slaves as equals, because that means becoming a slave like you. I can only address you as CHILDREN. LOST CHILDREN. |
