The CHURCH Is The Reason Why Nigeria Isn't Working by babasolution: 11:10pm On Mar 27 |
Actually my post isn't about the church but about the colonial GENERATION who destroyed Nigeria. There's a common denominator about them All they know and understand is religion. For the Christians their ultimate focus is church church ,Bible ,God etc. The Muslims is the same. They are the generation that killed all thriving industries and created the current booming religion industry in NIG. That has been their legacy has they bow out, Religion. They have built nothing They have left nothing Younger generation are building Nigeria from the ground up. The only thing the colonial GENERATION have built successfully in Nigeria is the religious industry with thriving booming churches worldwide and Islamist fundamentalism. No technology, no innovation, no economic progress, no infrastructure, no political advancement, no industries, only few businesses,no rule of law,no educational advancements etc . only Religion, only religion 26 Likes 4 Shares |

Some big truth in this. How do you tell a people not to work hard, learn and develop their country? How do you tell them not to be patriotic? Just tell them there is a better place called heaven in the skies waiting for them when they die. That their country is not their home. That they should strive day and night in order to be eligible to enter this heaven instead of working hard to develop their country. That's all it takes 18 Likes |

The best schools in Nigeria started with religion, the probIem here are the people practicing the reIigion not the reIigion. From the pastors who see the members as their easy to make cool cash to the members who are so f00Iish to believe that u prosper by giving whatever u have to the pastor. Nigeriàñs need education to illuminate their minds in general. 14 Likes 1 Share |

babasolution: You mean that the Church that has no constitutional roles or power in Nigeria is the one killing Nigeria? Is it the Church that make your country not to be able to generate, transmit or distribute sufficient power for more than a century, whereas Churches are enjoying 24/7 power they generate themselves in their various camp grounds/cities. Is it the Church that is handling or padding your national budget? The best run schools, hospitals, rehabs, motherless homes etc in Nigeria today are owned by the Church or Christian individuals. FYI, many people usually run to Church as their last hope for treatment/healing, accommodation, feeding and all sorts of help. 12 Likes 1 Share |

JagabanB: The best schools never started with religion. Put things into proper context. That those who brought formal education to Nigeria also had religion as a tool of control. The laws of physics, biology, mathematics etc are not found in the Koran or Bible. 13 Likes 1 Share |

babasolution: To be fair to the Church, they built the best schools and hospitals in Nigeria before others. They also trained the first leaders that led Nigeria better (like in the 60s and 70s). I would say the bad leaders started to emerge in Nigeria when former Church schools were taken over by the government: Example DMGS (Anglican owned) and CKC Onitsha (Catholic owned). That was when morals stopped being a top priority for schools. That is why Peter Obi returned those schools to churches when he was governor in Anambra. And Anambra schools started again to perform better... There used to be "moral instructions" in schools, but it ended with secular government control of schools. 9 Likes 2 Shares |

As for the "commercial churches" we have today, that is entirely a different story. I would impose heavy taxes on them and use the money to establish feeding and care program for the poor. I don't know about Mosques. I just know about commercial churches. Those churches would not even allow Jesus to preach there if he came there disguised. 4 Likes 1 Share |

babasolution: Well the above comment is a comment I respectfully disagree with The USSR was an atheist society which collapsed in 1991, while the USA has had too much religion, and yet it is strong. The simple reason why the USA has outlasted the USSR is simple. Free markets . Things are sold at a profit in the USA meaning there is more than enough money for innovations. Here in Nigeria we try to live as if we are the USSR. For examples we sell electricity power at a loss in the name of helping the poor or providing equity or something like the USSR did. That's nice but at the end the power companies cannot make a profit and thus cannot fund things like 1. Power for industrial development and production 2. Money for local inventions and innovations that would improve our power supply Unlike the USA where you have power companies that make a profit and use it to buy from local electronic companies which funds their growth That's how Edison and Alex Bell founded companies that revolutionized the USA. Here in Nigeria , at independence, we had two choices. Run a free market and industrialization project which means like south Korea and china a lot of suffering for a generation or two before benefits come in, or run welfarist projects at subsidise rate, with a lot of loan taking when local revenues are poor. Because at independence we had a large poor population and a tiny rich population. We chose the welfare route And that has led to massive loans and debts and corruption. Like the old USSR.it tends to happen with money sharing for equity economies. And it breeds poverty and economic ruin and leads to people falling vicitim to get rich quick schekmes of the secular (MMM) and religious variety ( And if not for religion a lot of us won't have gotten educated or even had the tools we have for industrial development. Even in atheist countries) The best way for Nigeria to run well is to allow the free market do it's thing. And also enforce tax collection. Alongside accountability and freedom form corrupt rule. That way we would eventually have a society that we can be proud of. Blaming religion is just lazy really. 20 Likes 1 Share |

babasolution: Well, you did blame the 'CHURCH' so... The colonial GENERATION is who I called out not religions per se, Who in many ways built a lot of modern Nigeria. A generation that knows nothing but religion Tell that to the few elderly atheists I knew from that generation, plus many of them did not know 'religion' alone, they know a lot of stuff.
Well, I did include south korea and china. And the USSR, so where is the USA story Plus, the point is, accept that profit needs to be made, and you will get a working nation. Man loves making money, and governments who cotton onto that tend to run more developed nations than others. Of course, they are not perfect, (China, South korea, US and co have high levels of poverty), but they work. Nigeria...we haven't accepted that things cost money. Here we are.
Well, the whites don't get much sense...otherwise most communist countries which were white run won't have collapsed. The thing is, the prosperous white countries are those who run on 1) free markets 2) efficent tax collection 3) rule of law. We all can do that here, but because it means a period of hardship (as seen in Spain which spent ten to fifteen years of hardship after bringing in the free market before they saw the benefits)...we don't want to do it. White people pay their power bills, at the price the sector sets, which is why they have power to make more money. We choose to believe in socialism, and incurr a debt and a wrecked power sector to make things equitable. Like them white people who ran the USSR... We keep making excuses for them for the older generation Projection much? I just pointed out that the older generation made a mistake by choosing welfarism over free markets...which is why our country does not work Better read people's comments old chap. They are a ruinous bunch Exceptfor universites, a lot of schools, a lot of industries, and a lot of roads, etc, etc...which they also ruined by not practicing free market, and by not making the tax system work. Instead, socialism, and sharing the money, which needs far more money than we had...hence loans, and more economic ruin. NIgeria does not want to do free market because it means more suffering. But the socialist way is currently wrecking our economy. APC right now is doing that nonsense to our economy Why didn't they switch to the so called free market when things were getting bad? Because people like you don't think that we should I have called for removal of subsides on petrol and subsides on power on this site. 90% of the comments I get in response are abusive, calling me a tinubu supproter, and I also have people who troll me for a while in order to get a rise out of me and get me banned from this site. We only have a partial free market because the government does not have the kind of money for total socialism. Very useless GENERATION Well, i haven't made excuses for them, have I.? PROJECTION is a vice you seem to have. 1 Like |

SS777: Well, the USSR abolished the churches and still collapsed because at the end of the day, they tried to run an economy based on the government setting prices for everyone, and trying to make everyone earn the same...and it ruined their economy...because long story short...people love to make money. All the communist countries did what you wanted and still collapsed because at the end, if your economy is not run on profit making, but on price controls and subsides, you will run out of money, and you will fail. The communist countries that survive did so because they in essence accepted that they needed to free the market. NIgeria is in a mess because we do too many subsides, and too much welfare. And it is reaching a point where it is costing far more than we earn to maintain it. Plus, such things end up being niduses of corruption and looting. Either way the result is a ruined economy. The only reason why we are not at USSR level? We allow some free market. 2 Likes |

RoxyBrownAutos:Thiz right here is one of the problems of Nigeria. A citizen with this mindset will definitely want to go to heaven and will toil day and night wasting valuable time in religious practices; same time that should have been used to develop self as well as contribute to the country. When you now have millions of people like this in a country, you get a multitude of mentally and physically lazy citizens whose only objective in life is to go to a non-existent heaven |

nairalanda1:The problem with Nigeria is wide scale corruption, and not too many subsidies. Even in the so called US that is an epitome of free market, they still doll out subsidies. Our problem in this country is monumental corruption from the highest office in the land to the lowest office in the landm everybody is busy stealing. My only annoyance with the church is that it has not been very vocal in condeming the wide spread corruption in this country. Rather they have been hobnobbing with the political class stealing us blind, by giving them recognition instead of ostracizing them. They preach to masses to endure pain and suffering that it is from the LORD, instead of holding their kleptomaniac political leaders accountable. 1 Like |
