Most people on nairaland can nt understand all the things you mentioned. Owan land is highly demonized with water spirits. Expecially aviosi people, out of 24 powerfull witches in ihuleha, aviosi had 18 powerful witches. Huh! Dont even mention ikhuse, that one na another story altogether. People totally sold to marine spirit in the name of tradition. No ask me how i know, if i no sabi the land i no fit talk about the place.

When you go write about esan people grin
Those people fly for day, i mean broad day light. While benin witch na plane dem dey take go europe. Some people no say there is a civilization beyond the natural world, very advance in technology. Ask my benin people wey dey use plantain leaf travel go italy airport. grin

But if them tell you! Jesus turn water to wine you go believe that one abi?
How does it correlate? Turning water to wine and a dead human turning into a river, I just don't see the correlation.

I completed my NYSC in Owan East (Emai) and I never fail to tell the world how beautiful, natural and serene this place is anytime I am opportune. Most importantly, the people are warm and welcoming. I made good indegine friends whose families ensured I was comfortable throughout my stay.

Food is very very cheap and infact, almost free if the seller recognizes you as a corper. While it is a small community, they had power for at least 15 hours a day while I was there and the major road networks were good.

Also, Owan mothers have beautiful voices, whenever they meet for social evens and sing together, my goodness, it is angelic!!!!

Esee maii!!!! I hope I got, it’s been a long time. I love Owan people and may God bless them for the kindness shown to me.

you failed to mention obhazu the god who demands goats, you failed to mention the real communities of Okpuje where there are so many rivers and Olokun tge goddess of wealth and fertility is worshipped in almost all the households.
You also failed to mention the age group festival held every four years where semi nude woman parade the community for hours, A festival when all sons and daughters of the kingdom do come home for the festival.
That area has a lot of cultural history and would have been a good tourist center but as usual what do African leaders know, abeg make the oil dry up quick, make de take diversification of the economy more seriously.
Thank you my brother, don't mind the op with half baked history.I was even thinking he will even add Obazu that uzebba and avbiosi just finished celebrating 3days ago.Anyways op you try small...

Interesting piece, my late mum was from Uroe, in Owan East Lga, I remember my early years on vacation with my late grand mum then, good old days, enjoying wild mushrooms delicacies.

They have wonderful hills, and are close to the kukuruku hills. Then the hills were used to plant marijuana. Am Igbo by the way from Anambra state, but can still very fluently speak the Uroe dialect, Va ese!

I served in Ikhin community in Owan East LG in 2017/18. Never knew there are lot of historical places in Owan, would have paid some visit if I knew earlier. I know of the hill at Uroe though, I do pass along that road when jogging fron Ikhin to Uroe every Saturday morning.
Edo is fun with their age group festivals every four years which I was opportuned to witness one and the new Yam festival. Its all fun. Really miss Owan and Edo State in general.
