This NIN thing though. It is giving some people headache. I don't know how true it is but I hear say no more new SIM numbers in Nigeria. They said all new SIMs are recycled ones. Please if you cherish your number and your SIM better do the needful before the deadline.

The truth they should be able to get NIN as non Nigeria provide they have resident permit, so all foreign national living in Nigeria should have resident permit and this entitled them to get the NiN number....well am not saying this is what will happen but I guess is the closest thing to happen. I live abroad and immediately you have resident permit in that country you are entitle to their ID that you can use in any govt office in that country

The fact they bought the Sims here does not mean they possess the same documentation like that of Nigerians.

What I am saying is that there is no way non Nigerians can get Nigerian national ID and without that FG is threatening to block people's lines.

Honestly it was a half thought plan, because foreigners should have a database as well that gives them residency cards with temporary NIN's but as usual Nigeria and half baked policies

forget it! they can't block over 100m lines at once. if they try it:
1. the telecommunications industry will collapse because they will be losing more than 50% of their subscribers. how will they continue to be in business?
2. the economy will almost certainly collapse! when half the population can't reach each other, how will businesses flow?
3. there's NO arrangement currently in place for people in the rural areas to get registered neither is there any concrete arrangement for the teeming population of unregistered people in the cities to get registered with ease.
this their gragra arrangement kolewerk!

All this issue of blocking sims CANNOT happen. Not with a third world like Nigeria that doesn’t even have an idea of what makeup their database.
Do they even know who and who makeup the foreigners space? All those niger, char and malians that have infiltrated the country, will they be counted as foreigners?

I've asked similar questions.

Foreigners will also include researchers and tourists that are on short visits. You mean they can't have a SIM unless they have NIN? The NIN is supposed to chain together all other valid national and international identifications like Int Passport, Drivers Licence, Voters Card, not to replace them as is being erroneously conveyed.

Everyone wants to show they are working. I think it's all about 'notice me' and power, less of well thought out policy.

Na wa o. He asked if someone without NIN get his line blocked since the person is not a citizen of Nigeria and hence cannot acquire NIN

they can be given a temporary nin number that will enable them submit their international passport at their relevant nigeria migration office in which country they are

Every foreigner will register their SIM card with their international passport, that’s how other countries do it

The rush to combine SIMs with NIN has to do with tackling security issues. My Thoughts.

Kidnappings as well as comms within Boko Haram ranks will be heavily impacted.

At the time of sim registration a non-nigerian is expected to tender his or her international passport for registration. This I believe would allow govt exempt the non nigerians that have duly registered their telephone lines to be exempted..

The Federal Government has threatened to deactivate every sim card that is not linked to NIN at a certain date and just last night my friend who is not a Nigerian asked me if his lines will also be deactivated since he won't be able to get the national ID card because he is not a citizen of this country.

I promised to confirm for him and that's why I created this thread.
