Re: Do You Consider Somalis As Black? by Pennywise(m): 6:02pm On Oct 21, 2012
This is laughable. If Somalis are not black what are they, white? Has poverty and hunger caused a racial identity crisis in that country?
Re: Do You Consider Somalis As Black? by Luul(f): 6:03pm On Oct 21, 2012
Why do you care what we call ourselves?
Re: Do You Consider Somalis As Black? by Pennywise(m): 6:04pm On Oct 21, 2012

Re: Do You Consider Somalis As Black? by Luul(f): 6:05pm On Oct 21, 2012
Well the be happy we dont call ourselves black.

That is the problem. You are giving other races reason to question the sanity of all black people. Bc you are black head to toe. Even mixed races in the americas consider themselves black. I dont see why you who by nature are darker skinned than most Nigerians consider yourselves otherwise.

What exactly do you see in the mirror?

Why do you care what we call ourselves? Am from Somalia, speak Somali and am ethnically Somali.

If you have a problem with that than go talk and convince all the Somalis in the world their black.

Dont reply to me anymore, keep moving.

Re: Do You Consider Somalis As Black? by Luul(f): 6:31pm On Oct 21, 2012
^ omg.

Why do people here care so much how a people identify themslevs. If someone chooses to identify themseles by skin color or ethnicity doesnt matter.

I personally always refered to those africans who look black as black. I know in the Horn we refer to ourselves by ethnicity even though we all look the same. So dont get offensed when we dont get offended.

Re: Do You Consider Somalis As Black? by Luul(f): 6:41pm On Oct 21, 2012
^ I never understood the idea of labeling yourself a color yournot.

I look brown not black dear. So dont take it personal when people identify themselves with their ethnicity and not a color they are "technically" not.
Re: Do You Consider Somalis As Black? by Luul(f): 6:52pm On Oct 21, 2012
No, Somalis are not "black" for two main reasons: 1) The term "black" is a scientifically invalid label that lumps together disparate human populations solely on the basis of similar skin color.

This is problematic because skin color is regulated by one's environment; it is not in and of itself a sign of shared racial ancestry. The Dravidians of South Asia, for example, are darker than many "Black" Africans, yet they do not share any biological affinity with the latter nor are they branded as "black".

Dravidians just happen to have also evolved in a hot, equatorial climate, as have Australian Aborigines, another dark-skinned people. Furthermore, skin color often changes many times over the course of an average person's life. This fact only serves to make skin color an even more useless variable for determining a given person's or population's biological "race".

2) Somalis have biologically, linguistically, and culturally more in common with the peoples of Southwest Asia and North Africa than they do with Black Africans. Since this is demonstrably the case on numerous variables, it makes no sense to group them with Black Africans solely on the basis that they both happen to share a continent. For instance, East Asians and South Asians also share a continent, but that does not prevent South Asians from having genetically more in common with the peoples of Europe than they do with their fellow Asians in the East. The same can be said of Somalis with regard to Black Africans.

Luul

Go to Western countries and say you are not black.
Re: Do You Consider Somalis As Black? by Luul(f): 7:18pm On Oct 21, 2012
Glad to know you identify yourself according what 5 percent of the world things.
Re: Do You Consider Somalis As Black? by Pennywise(m): 9:47pm On Oct 21, 2012
@Luul
1.To start with I am unaware of a race called 'Dravidians'
2. By biological features can u be more specific bc if u mean slender physique with a straight nose we have them in abundance among hausas up north here in Nigeria and a host of kenyan tribes. They are blacks. If u mean light or brown complexion the ibos and calabar in Nig have much more of them than u somalians.
3 If u are referring to genetic trait even white pple you claim to be closer to have 98% similarity to apes let alone humans.

Now for your peace of mind along with other somalians who think like u, d world may create a separate race that cannot be predicated on current means of physical xerization. It will be based solely on psychological stereotyping having inferiority complex as its sole attribute.

Either that or u have a misplaced sense of superioriy over Nigerians and other black Africans. But Nigerians are highly travelled and educated with a huge middle class pop. There is a min 40yr gap bw Nig and Somalia in education. The average Somalian male weighs 55kg abt half the size of a typical Nigerian male.

All d indices of a civilized nation are in favour of Nigeria compared to Somalia that has become a continental embarassment.

What this suggets is that there is some kind of ethnic (not racial) tension within d penury and squalor that is today's Somalia bc Pple like u think they are superior over the indigent 'bantu pop'.

U should be more interested in how u can close rank and pull yourself out of poverty and d sub human conditions ur citizens live in.

The Bantu are exslaves and are not indegenous to Somalia.
Re: Do You Consider Somalis As Black? by Pennywise(m): 9:59pm On Oct 21, 2012
That is hardly relevant. Inter tribal slave dealing existed in Africa long b4 the white men came. You took some of them as slaves and they also took some of ur pple as slaves
Re: Do You Consider Somalis As Black? by Pennywise(m): 10:06pm On Oct 21, 2012
Taking and keeping disadvantaged persons as slaves is another false sense of superiority. It is a barbaric and uncivilized behaviour.

While u somalians were at it Nigerians in the nineteenth century were in England training to be surgeons
