Eid-l-adha - Preparing For The Festival. by Iliveon: 9:17am On Sep 23, 2012
Salam Alaykum, My mind has been on preparation for Eid-l-Adha but it seems nobody is talking about it or I missed a post on it.I have also been concern with the financial implication because I have load of expenses on my head already. To all of us who would not be going to Hajj, can we keep this topic alive so that it would serve as reminder for us towards preparing for the festivem
And for all our muslim brothers and sister who would be travelling(some have already gone though),May Allah accept their Hajj as an act of worship and to all of us who are not going to Hajj, May God provide us the means to accomplish what is expected of us as muslim. Ma-salam.

I really dont have a reference at my disposal at the moment...Buh I learnt from my readings of scriptures and listening to lectures that two or more people can contribute money and share the reward provided that all conditions for the sacrifice are met. Allahu Ahalamu.

Salaam

May Allah make it easy for us to witness the day of Sacrifice

1. "There is no deed more precious in the sight of Allaah, nor greater in reward, than a good deed done during the ten days of Sacrifice." These ten days are better than all the other days of the year, with no exceptions, not even the last ten days of Ramadaan. But the last ten nights of Ramadaan are better, because they include Laylat al-Qadr

So we should do a lot of good deeds during this time - Fasting, supplication, takbir, sacrifice, repentance

2.The one who wants to offer a sacrifice must stop cutting his hair and nails and removing anything from his skin, from the beginning of the ten days until after he has offered his sacrifice

3. Fasting on the 9th day of Dhul Hijjah (day of Arafat) is well known and is especially recommended

4. Allah wants sacrifice with a high-quality animal. It should be fattened and money spent on it without show off but for for the sake of
Allaah

5. It is better to sacrifice an animal than to give its price to people in charity

6. In Al-Mughni, Ibn Quadaimah said, "The best sacrifice is a camel, then a cow, then a sheep, then to have a share in a cow. A sheep is better than sharing in a camel, because the aim of the sacrifice is to shed blood. A ram is better than a sheep" The raking of camel above cow and sheep is derived from the ranking of the reward one has for arriving very early for Friday Khutbah

Please can you clarify the bolded? Why would Allah "require" a "sacrifice"? And when you say "sacrifice", what exactly do you mean?

Sacrifice means slaughtering of the animal. Of course we both know that it is a form of worship and we have to do it for Allah alone. It is a demonstration of obedience and fear of Allah.

Ordinary connotation of sacrifice is to gve up something for a purpose. Eg one can sacrifice his enjoyment of sleep by getting up for Tahajjud to seek the pleasure of Allah. Spending on the animal and sharing it is a form of sacrifice in the non-religious sense. I could finish the meat all by myself and there are other things I could do with the money otherwise

"Indeed, my prayer, my rites of sacrifice, my living and my dying are for Allah , Lord of the worlds Qur'an" 6 : 162

Salam alaykum warahmatullah

What is the expected price of Ileya Ram this year?

How about a bag of rice? Elubo? Garri? Basket of pepper? Palm oil? Ororo?

I think it will be a useful budget tool for us all if those who know can post their findings here.
Sisters in the house, abeg update us.

Brothers too, you are not left out.

salaam

@BetaThings, thanks for your explaination.Hope it answers @sulfanalhi01 's question. I am worried that there is no display of rams for sales in major places in Lagos as it used to be in d past considering the fact that El-d is around 2-3wks from now.

There are several established and seasonal ram markets scattered all over Lagos now. Ok, if you don't know any you can go to the one at Gbagada bus stop opposite the popular Mobil Filling station.

http://www.wincalendar.com/October-Calendar/October-2012-Calendar.html

Check those two links above, they both indicate 25th as ARAFAT DAY and 26th October 2012 AS EID-L-ADHA

(I still stand to be corrected) wink

Saifullah01: i have a question. can me and a friend contribute to buy the animal, and share the reward of the sacrifice? also back ur answers with evidence, kindly.
Yes, you can. The opinion of ulamas is that a number of people can contribute towards the purchase of the animal for ileya and be rewarded. That is the beauty of islam: Allah does not impose difficulty on Muslims more than they can bear. We thank Allah always for guiding us to the light of His religion. Please note that in Islam you are never compelled to do what is beyond your means and strength. The ileya is a sunnah for those who can afford it without having to stretch themselves. May Allah continue to shower His blessings on the Prophet and all of us. I dont hav the reference because of where i am but there a number of respected sites u can visit for guidance eg Islamicfinder.com, ask-imam.net

How about eid clothes, et al

DO people still travel to their villages for eid?

What are the special food people cook during Eid?

I remember I used to go for one funfare as a kid during eid. sponsored by Suliat Adedeji. Can't remember the details. Do things like this take place now?

I'd like to know these please.

The boko boys may be having a hand in it really. I heard eggs became cheap in the south when people wouldnt transport it to the North anymore for the fear of boko bombs.

same reason could keep people from moving from the North to the south

I have no qualms with our muslim brothers celebrating the Eid. In a sense, i look forward to it because of the opportunity it provides for some holidays. However, may i also suggest that you guys be on the look out for the splinter group called Boko Haram so that they do not turn your joy nay our joy into sorrow. Happy celebrations.
