Download an open-source discussion forum product and upload it to your website hosting account via FTP. Examples: - www.phpbb.org - www.punbb.org - www.phorum.org - www.getvanilla.com |

Among free and open source software, phpBB tops my list. Fairly good product, huge MOD database, and pretty good support. If you haven't got much time, and want to see what the new phpbb3 can offer, just try it out on this host : create forum Hope this can help! |

Hello akay47 , creating (installing) forum on your site is one of the easiest you can do ones you have a web host. That is you have bought a web host and a domain name. Login to your cpanel and do the following: Scroll down > Click "Fantastico" > From "Discussion Boards" Select any of the scripts of your choice (usually phpBB2 or SMF). Follow the intruction that come up within the page to complete the intallation. Test, amend, correct and test again. If you make mistake, start all over (but do delete the previous installation at Fantastico. After some practice, I believe you will get used to it. Good luck! |

If your server comes with Cpanel. Chances are that it comes with Fantastico. Fantastico makes script installation easy and fun. phpbb and SMF are available under Fantastico. Good luck. |

If you want to create a free forum, use the Forums-Free service: create a forum It's very good! 1GB of space for files, photos, phpbb3, and more. |

All the ideas up there are very good but they forgot that as a rookie, you dont know the meaning of fantastico DELUXE, phpbb, smf and so on. So if you would like a forum i suggest you get a host company first. there are a lot of them. I use a foregin one but there are a lot of good ones in Nigeria, thats if you are in Nigeria. If you are not in Nigeria and you have access to paypal or credit card, i will suggest you use the same host with like me.www.siteground.com excellent customer service, free domain name and 750GB minimun space at a cheap price. i will help you to install the smf or phbb and other things you want. and guess what, i wont charge you a kobo. Drop your question here and it will be attended to. THE WALL |

It seems to be a good guide for creating a forum or setting up a forum on a website. Maybe phpbb is a good one, it seems like it is one of the most popular forum software. Maybe I should try to build my own forum by using a free forum, but I need to learn how to set it up first. Anyways, thanks for the idea guys. _________________ Multivariate Testing |

WasyKeene: Why would you ask me to take out the speck from my own eye (by saying no off topic) when you haveen't taken out the log from yours (by creating an off topic here, even though you already created a topic with this very question here: https://www.nairaland.com/nigeria/topic-360301.0.html)? Please refrain from pursuing this question any further on this thread and refer to the above thread for your answer(s). Thanks in advance for your co-operation. |

"forum" or better "Portal" website with gallery, chat room, products. You can use open source CMS like Joomla or Drupal where you can get all popular extensions/modules available freely. If you are talking about only forum/Discussion Board/Message board, you can use PHPBB or IPBB or VBUlletin or better GetVanilla. |

Can ZUBY77 or anyone assist with this proposed project? I want to set up a website for a christian ministry and am worse than a rookie. but because i must manage it myself i want to be a part of it from the beginning. simplified, the website will have the following features: -www.orgnisation'sname.com will take visitors to welcome page where they must login with their names and email without which they cannot access any information on the website. -Login will take every visitor to a www.orgnisation'sname.com/home from where they can read all information including discussions forum topics in the discussion boards/threads. It will also allow them to make donation. -full user registration page and corresponding storage of every data submitted. -every visitor wanting to start a discussion forum or topic and those who want to respond to existing ones must sign up fully as a user. -login and registration information must be stored accordingly for use from time to time. -the use of auto responder will be necessary to manage communications of email verification and to disseminate information on events and other news as well as to encourage donours regularly. -e-payment page to include gateway permitting donours with master card, visa card, american express, paypal to make donations easily and securely. -comprehensive discussion board with possibility for multiple discussion thread. -personal management and update possibility. How do I start? I really need help because of low budget. thanks. 08033511538, 07027099121 |

Look no further. If your website is behind a Cpanel system. You can install a forum software using the built-in script launcher called Fantastico. |
