The wrath of God is a part of Christianity you don't hear much anymore these days. What I want to do on this thread is to have a discussion on the the nature of God, God's wrath and leading on eventually to a discussion about the nature of Hell.

This thread is in fulfillment of a promise i made to here: https://www.nairaland.com/1068988/god-truly-god-justice-then/1#12555017

I want us to have a really serious discussion and not some haphazard nonsense so I'll set some ground rules here:

The Rules/Guidelines

I would like to invite all Christians accepting that the bible is our final authority on this matter. If the bible is not your final authority, please don't bother commenting.

Also we will choose 2 translations alone as the only ones acceptable in this discussion. This is to avoid the practice of "translation jumping" and in the process focusing on the letter at the expense of the Spirit.

Everyone who wishes to participate must start with a declaration that the bible is his/her final authority and then nominate one translation of scripture that may be used. At the end of the day, the top two voted translations will be the official ones for this discourse.

If you are an atheist or anything other than a christian and the bible does not have the final say for you, Your opinion is not needed here. If you comment, you will be ignored. I want to respectfully ask you to please stay away. There are a number of other threads on this forum that we can play in. Not this one.

The discussion proper will start tomorrow after we have agreed on the bible translations to use and the boundaries of our discussion. For now, let those interested in partaking declare their interest and suggest a bible translation.

I'll begin:

I submit to the bible as my final authority.

I'll suggest we use the NKJV for this debate.

My suggestion is subject to consensus. Let's here yours guys.

Thanks guys, please for now just affirm, suggest a translation and move on. No need to derail the thread before it even starts.

..and yeah, you only get to suggest one translation so your second choice won't really be counted. sorry about that.

One other thing, we all agree not to 'murder' the English language.

English words will be defined exactly as stated in the English dictionary and not by some magical art of mental gymnastics.

Am there too. Bible is my final and only authority. Kjv or nkjv is acceptable for me. May God take perfect control of our discussions. Amen.

And this is the kind of juvenile we are to engage with in debates about the word of GOD.

Dictionary can only be an authority on words that has no biblical conotations.

In other words, scriptures which make sense in the denotative form will not be interpreted connotatively.

I have been following this thread for the past 24 hrs even though i have no intention of posting anything here. I wish to honour your wish of honouring the bible as your authority, but im somehow appaled by all this unncecessarily long "pre-amble" and some attendant derailments as if you want to draft a new constitution for a new country and the future of the world depends on it.

Stop this your time-wasting campaign of which bible versions to use and get to action joor...

Cant you just use authorised KJV, nobody as far as i know has anything against that good old KJV and its the most true-to-the-letter translation, you just need to get familiar with its pecular style.

Pls start whatever you want start jare and dont dull this thread before it is even started.

N.B. Christians in the house, pls dont bother to respond to my posts here as i have no intention of derailing your thread. I wont respond to you. I will just post what i feel is necessary along the subject of the thread. I'm only following it because this topic means a lot to me. May your "God" bless the sharing and breaking of your bread in his son's name. Amen

cool

Ok Guys, thanks for participating, the votes are now in. Our official translations are the KJV and the RSV. (NO OTHER TRANSLATION WILL BE RECOGNIZED ON THIS THREAD). The reason for this is so that we focus more on what a verse of scripture is actually saying instead of unneeded semantics.

Now that is out of the way, Let's set some ground rules here:

First of all let us remove the notion that this is a debate from our minds but rather let us look at it as a discussion. The aim is not to prove superiority by "winning"/"debunking each other" a.k.a. arguing just for the sake of holding on to a belief rather than actually following the bible.

Secondly, let us remember that we are called to Christ and not to pentecostalism or catholicism or unitarian or calvinist or trinitarian or Jehova's witness or whatever other sects are out there. This also means that insults directed at a particular sect of people or individual persons are not allowed. Please focus on the what the man is saying and not the man.

Thirdly. Where we fail to agree, let us disagree peacefully and move on.

I am hoping that we can make this thread a quality thread without resorting to childish insults and other such nonsense.

I propose that before each person starts, please give a short summary of who you know God to be in terms of His holiness, His attitude to sin and on to what manner of punishment awaits a sinner after physical death.
(The reason for this is so that we know where each of us is coming from and so that we can avoid fellows who really have nothing to add other than criticize another man's position without providing a basis for their criticism themselves)

If these guidelines work for everybody, please indicate and also feel free to air your objections. If we are agreed, then we can move forward.

I will be back later in the day to properly kick the thread off with my introductory statement. I suggest we all also prepare a proper introduction of our positions.
(Please let no one give a rebuttal without first giving his/her introductory post. I beg you all)
This is so that the thread becomes a quality reading instead of a cacophony of one-liner replies.

Are we all agreed?
