What Do Nigerians Really Think About American Black People? by Emmyk(m): 1:54pm On Oct 30, 2012
I know there has been many threads like this. I was chatting with a blackAmerican facebook friends yesterday, and she asked me the question which I use as Thread Title now. I really feel for her in her response.. Below our conversation;

Friend; What do nigerians really think about american black people?

Me; That they all forgot about home(Africa).. They think we ar poo and disgusting in africa because of the way the media potray us. I'm not speaking for all nigerians though. Just a portion... Alright?

I think Black americans ar great, they made america what it is today.. They ar creative.

Friend; I think that we black americans are very lost. We don't have any lineage or custom or honor or tradition. We try to adopt the white peoples way of life but it is not our natural state. We need help over here. We don't know what in the hell we are doing. We don't have a foundation...you know. We don't believe in anything over here. I hate it...I wish that I had been taught differently.

Me; Awwwwr. Thats what white men caused through slavery, u know?
But i heard some blacks over there still practice their long ago african custom. Right?

Friend; Yeah...we practice the little that we know but we don't always get those things passed down to us. There is a lot we just don't know. Like who to turn to when we are going through hard times. Of course we use the bible but sometimes it's not enough...we need our ancestors and some spiritual power. I don't like living here but I'm scared to move to another country.

Me; I really feel your pain... Do you think there is any way out of this?

In my opinion, I feel the Black Americans should kind of visit Africa once a while,.. On the other hand, i feel they wont wanna come, Stereotype is the first Problem to Tackle.. You catch my drift?

Friend; I think learning from each other like we are doing is a good step.
What do you think?

Me; Learning from each other? U mean our conversations, right?
Yeah. It's really cool.:-)

Friend; Yes what we are doing is good cause I always wanted to ask people how they feel about us.

Me; I'll like to introduce you to a Nigerian Community website.. You'l learn a lot on it.. www.nairaland.com

Okay. But I got no hatred for Black American.. Hope u know? *chuckles*.

The website has people from all over the world on it. Talking about race..

Friend; Nice site. I can tell you don't hate us. I just wish we could build a bridge. I'm going to join.

Me; You are free to clarify things there. Okay?

Friend; I wil. Thanks Emmanuel I'm going to get off now and we'll chat later. Thanks for chatting with me.

Me; eah. Bridge.. Me too.. Coz I use to see black americans in movie that look so much like me, I'm always like "awwwr, that could be my looooooong relative/brother".
Okay. Have a nice day, hope u dont mind if i put our conversation on that website? Atleast to educate people. Wont post it wit ur name though. Alright?

Friend; alright bro.

Oh, yes. ...Africans in America have much in common with Africans who where born, raised, and socialized in Africa. Maybe be we can chalk it up to the media, but that's just half of the story. I'm working on building that bridge. Like I mentioned, the similarities are endless. We all come from Alkebulan!!

I'm a Black American, and I absolutely love this site! The posters here provide a much greater insight into Nigeria than what the biased West allows.

Dat guy just shows how us blacks want to be diffrent from the ones wey dey chase de american dream.Na person wey find open mind talk true like am go help afro and akata join forces.
No be dem fault.de image wey africa get for tv na small pikin wey dey starve wid fly for im mouth.
since internet commot akata dem don see the real developed africa but e hard for dem to admit dat dem wan join us for here.
dat bobo wey talk say ehn no like how ehn life be na strong person.other people dey live their life like say dem be oyinbo.
i mean because dem no sabi how to be african therefore dem edy aspire to be and to have wetin oyinbo dem get and how oyinbo dey live.
no be today dis tori begin now.imagine de first dudu wey dem carry go yankee.na flog and kill oyinbo dey flog dem say make dem forget dem culture.
if person flog you kill your pikin for your front you sef go make like say u don hear now.
but after time don pass the dudu wey dey yankee come forget how e be for home come begin dey look oyinbo life say na so dem soppose dey live.
dat guy wey talk i salute am coz e no easy before person go talk wetin commot ehn mouth.
as for the other black people wey dey yankee wey born for us dem for try small even small sef to be their own person instead of looking up to oyinbo life.
Na de fact say we afro get our own culture lifestyle and beliefs dey make dem vex with us and from there na so we no come like eachother.
Na oyinbo dey benefit inside dis fight b/w dudu for yankee.
DE dudu wey yankee get gift no be small,u no see hoe creative talented den be,make we no lie.
na real sad tin say all blacks for yankee no fit join forces but na dee violence dey make people stay clear.
before you talk sef if no be slap na gun.
The black people wey read book sef dem sef no help.na to dey look down on their own black people dem sabi come dey wear suit chop diner with fork like oyinbo.
if yankee blacks no like eachother how dem go come like africas? But na true say if dem begin come africa small small dem go see how life be.
The educated ones no wan come instead dem wan enter public office for us tink say dem don acheive better tin.
Before you go see yankee wey even get african padi sef u go waka no be small.
The present situation cannot continue because we get so much gift wey we fit combine for the good of generations to come.
but those in power for yankee no want afro and akata to join forces.obviously.
as black people we go overcome all obstacles in our front and one day one day we go fit bacome closer and share ideas how to improve our situation.
meanwhile make more akata dem try embrace african culture and identity dem go feel better deep down inside their heart and mind.
Im sure those black americans who dey comfortable are not really happy living and aspiering to white tastes and lifestyles. But are they as strong as the guy wey talk say ehn no like as e be.
Meanwhile i beg una o.if any akata come gidi make una no show am o.
instead carry dem see the better part of nijah coz dem go go home talk better tin about us.

No be dem fault say dem think africa no be better place na de tin wey dem don teach dem.
