Does Ogun State Really Have The Most Modern House/urban Planning In Nigeria? by Nobody: 7:03pm On Nov 22, 2012
I just saw the a graphical depiction of regular households by type of housing unit in Nigeria, from the Nigerian National Population Commission, posted by eGuerilla... And I was really impressed with the number of "house on a separate stand/yard" in Ogun State... The state has about 3,789,509 of this type of houses - that's like more than 5x Kano(the 2nd best) and more than 7x for Lagos(the most developed city in Nigeria)...

Can someone please explain further and provide pictures of what the state looks like? - I definitely won't mind living there, if I decide to move to Nigeria...

It's believable, a lot of Lagosians live there because it's close and cheaper, plus the state is big on it's own

But the number thumps Lagos as well and there more houses in the state than any other part of Nigeria...

Can you post pictures of what the state looks like?

I've seen pictures and most cities look like a dense concentration of residentials

Ibadan (Yoruba: Ìbàdàn or fully Ìlú Ẹ̀bá-Ọ̀dàn, the city at the junction of the savannah and the forest) is the capital city of Oyo State and the third largest metropolitan area in Nigeria, after Lagos and Kano, with a population of 1,338,659 according to the 2006 census. Ibadan is also the largest metropolitan geographical area. At Nigerian independence, Ibadan was the largest and most populous city in the country and the third in Africa after Cairo and Johannesburg.

couple the fact that a lot of Lagosians live there with it's long history of urbanization, i believe the numbers.

I doubt the statistics. I have been to part of the state. I do not think that some Lagosians (they are practically no more Lagosians in the real sense) live there explains the difference to other States.

That apart, Abeokuta is quite a serene city with a good mix of old and young infrastructures. Nevertheless, I believe you should visit Nigeria first hand to see things for yourself. I bet you will be schocked at first sight, but you wont want to miss the fun of the lawlessness of that Nigeria once you get used to it. And you will get used to it faster than you think.

Ogun is really trying in term of decency and urban planning.

I was shocked the first time I passed through Ijebu Ode in Ogun, the place is not pronounced nor recognized. The orderliness and cleanliness of the city is very impressive. The city looks better than most states capital I've been in Nigeria.
Sango ota's planning also is not bad.
I don't know much about Abeokuta the state capital

I don't doubt that rating.
This is also convincing

How easy is it to buy properties in the state and are they as pricey as Lagos?
Re: Does Ogun State Really Have The Most Modern House/urban Planning In Nigeria? by ayobase(m): 8:01pm On Nov 22, 2012
My state...it could be mundanely sophisticated with modern structures and amenities!
.
Superb, but being kept simple with the mixture of pleasures ranging from the old schools to the new schools....what a touch of spice!

When you consider Lagos influence on Ogun, it's quite close to that of Lagos in some part of the state.

There are some places in the state where properties are even equivalent to that of the lagos price, it depends on your choice. Ogun has enough land for property development.

I think he was asking people who know and not people who don't know. If you don't know, you don't have to put it in print. You're supposed to STFU and learn.

Houses in Ogun are nowhere as pricey as those in Lagos except in some low income parts of Lagos.

Looking at the statistics, you can tell its a typo. There is no way that record is accurate because there is no specific cultural or traditional practice in Ogun that is significantly different from the rest of the western states such as to warrant such a large disparity in figures.

Close proximity to Lagos is a factor that can not easily be ignored.

Bwahahahahaha

Is Abuja even a city?

The capital of Lagos alone is more developed than the whole of Akwa Ibom...

Stay off the thread if you have nothing to contribute...

Do you know Lagos is not a city in the true sense of the word?

How is Abuja not a city? Do you mind expatiating...

Lagos is more than a city, it's a megacity...

Abuja is a city, however, because it's the FCT and it has more administrative districts than commercial and financial districts - I wouldn't really ascribe the city status to it IMO...

Shymexx, can you give us YOUR idea of a city? What IS a city to you? What makes Lagos a megacity? Is it by population, land area, cultural dynamism? Please explain.

The figure presented in this second table for Ogun state contradicts the one above.

Whether a mega city or a global city, it's still a city but not a city in the true sense of the word just like London. You know there's a place called City of London inside London, right?

A city is not necessarily a financial center or commercial center though it may have little of it.

Once the population of the inhabitants a city exceeds 10 million - it automatically becomes a megacity...The population of Lagos exceeds 10 million and it has everything needed for the megacity label... Lagos has many commercial, business and financial districts - and it also has an administrative district... The cultural dynamism of Lagos is none else in Nigeria - Lagos is Nigeria in Nigeria, what else do you want??

The definition of city varies from country to country... For example in the UK: A city in the UK is any town that has a cathedral... However, some of these so-called "cities" are more or less glorified towns... Personally, a city should have commercial, financial, and administrative districts - anything less, it's a glorified town IMO...

The city of London is the business and financial district of London - just as the Island is to Lagos...

How did that get into the discourse, if I may ask?
