Benue Women Are Offered To Visitors As ''kola''. by Germannig: 10:51am On Feb 21, 2008
It is often believed that Benue women are offered to visitors as ''Kola''. Is this one helluva culture that might well explain why Benue has the highest HIV/AIDS incidence in Nigeria?
Re: Benue Women Are Offered To Visitors As ''kola''. by Nobody: 1:03am On Feb 24, 2008
do you mean kola to be "chopped" by the guest?

I've heard about this tradition a long ago. Is it really true? People from Benue should confirm this now or forever keep their mouths shut!

Someone from Benue or a visitor that has been offered a "living kola" should say something

Thank God a Benue wife has spoken.
That was a horrible tradition I might add.
The things our ancestors did.
killing twins, throwing people in the "evil" forest, offering their wives as kola
Lord have mercy!

I wish am from Benue and married to a particular poster on this thread, although all that could only and only be on a wish list now. I would have offered her to my friends, enemies, visitors and strangers. All to make sure she spends more time in the bedroom rather than on Nairaland.  angry

abeg no be good thing.

All nations/tribes/countries/races have questionable behaviors they did in the past, out of ignorance or whatever.

What I heard when I visited Benue was that sometimes the woman offered could be really old as in her seventies and wrinkled.

So all the people salivating at the thought of nacking someone's pretty young wife should wake up and smell the coffee. The grass is always greener on the other side. Sometimes its when people (not necessarily Benue) want to kill you or use your life fluid that you get such "gifts". Isnt the New York governor lamenting his own, now.

Anyway, its just a rumor. I heard eskimos also have a tradition of offering their wives to guests. If at all its done in benue, must have been centuries ago or something and probably stopped by now. undecided

The culture was reserved for other tribes married to Benue men but unfortunately it has been stopped. We hope other tribes will borrow a leaf from the Benue people and stop their own heinous crimes that are committed on their women like washing dead body of the husband for the wife to drink or the Osu issue to name a few cheesy cheesy

i bet some folks wished it were true. if it were true, i wonder what the women felt about it. the visitor prolly comes out in the morning and says to the man ' thanks, your wife was greaat', and the man says ' i told you she is', and the woman goes about her normal bussiness. i actually find this hard to beleive, cos from time immemorial, man has always been known to jealously gaurd his woman.

I will try to visit Benue, locate a house that a beautiful lady resides so that she can be offered as a Kola-sex for me.
What a stupid culture, a visitor on a house-wife? tufiakwa
Re: Benue Women Are Offered To Visitors As ''kola''. by rabzy: 6:06pm On Oct 29, 2009
My Aunty had a friend who is from benue in Lagos, one day she caught her having sex with another benue man and she got mad and dissapointed with her. The woman explained that it is small matter, that it is their culture and that her husband also go to the man's wife.

Yuck!

But wife swapping and threesomes are now glamorize in western media, so maybe for the morally decadent, its not so yucky
