A friend of mine was going through my blackberry and she exclaimed at the number of contacts on my BBM.
My BBM contacts are less than 60 consisting of friends, family, colloegues, acquaintances etc. I know some people who have up to a hundred contacts on their BBM. Which leads me to the question; what number of contacts is considered normal? What are the advantages of having too little or too many bbm contacts?

Studies have shown that there is actually a limit to the number of people an individual can maintain a stable social relationship with. That limit is usually around the 150 mark even though experts say it ranges from 100 to 230. It is referred to as Durban's Number. Above this range more restrictive rules have to be put in place for the group relationship to be stable.
In social media one sees individuals with friends that number in the thousands and one's suspicion is that there is no way in hell for all those friendships to be genuine or solidly built. Many are just acquaintances or random people with no real claim to friendship.
This is also the case for BBM.

Having more than 200 is too much,having less than 20 is too little.

I think your contacts relevance matters. I use mine to keep in touch with family and business contacts. Very few friends. I have some who are of no relevance too so sometimes it's good to delete such people, then I keep those who might have something to offer in the near future. Someone like you

The maximum i've eva got is 150. I have many friends who happen to be blackberry users. But with time i realised i do not need too many contacts, expecially the "ghost" ones, just few active chat buddies. And so i reduced it to 120. And also With the help of naijapings app, some people have been able to get outrageous number of contacts.
