Correction. basic philosophy is an ATTEMPT at reasoning on existential reality. The key word here being Attempt. The Art [/b]of doing something is different from an [b]Attempt at doing something.

You might as well say that philosophy is the art of knowing or understanding existence, rather than an attempt at knowing or understanding existence.

If philosophy was the art of reasoning on existential reality, then there would not be different schools of philosophy all expounding ideas that are sometimes at odds with one another. It's an Attempt . That is why there are many differing paths.
