aydewale,

The canadians are thorough in their verification process, and they are not lazy like the britons. Secondly, they have resigned to fate that any Nigerian that goes there, especially on study is not likely going to come back, especially if you are still single (which is the case, anyway). There is a route to permanent residence for students who graduate in Canada. So they are aware of this and try to verify everything possible. Relax, they will give you. They had given my friend canadian permanent residency after 7 years of application. The visas were issued only one week to the expiration of his medicals, and he was asked if he could make it or whether they should postpone it by one year. Foe where, my guy, tell them say him and him family don pack their load for almost a year. Infact from accra when he pick up the visa na straight to Calgary.

Re: Travelling To Canada by igbogolo: 11:49am On Jul 17, 2008

@Ezinwanem, well thanks for ur advice and i sure did, the thing is there are some more intimate questions i will like to share, at this instance i have been granted admission into the university of Regina for an undergraduate course in computer science. wanted to make it in for admission for September fall was late for my application and had to defer to January winter, well the thing is educationally i have lost some considerable years and I really don't know if it will tell when i eventually apply @ the embassy. Also there is this new scheme which Bank PHB is doing over here, educational fund. its like a loan thing for students wanting to go oversees to study. They kind of act as your guarantors. Well your candid advice will surely be appreciated again. Hope u having a wonderful time.

Take care,

cjay.

This was an auto reply message sent to me when I sent them an email.

"This acknowledges receipt of your email to the Lagos visa office.
Kindly note that we currently are catching up on a backlog of applications to be processed.

We are currently processing Visitors application received on May 15, 2008.
We give priority to Student cases starting their session in July 2008.
We are still processing Workers applications on a First In First Served basis.
we have to wait till month end.maybe go there the last week of july".
Re: Travelling To Canada by aydewale: 6:06pm On Jul 19, 2008
Tanx Yomex, however 2 weeks ago when I sent a message and got a similar auto reply, but that said visitors who submitted June 23 and priority to students for August/ September 2008. I also know one or two students who mid/ late May, who they ve gotten back to. Maybe dey are verifying our documents, but I think its taking 2 long. Maybe different people are handling different files.

Any other views?
Re: Travelling To Canada by yomex4ever: 6:18pm On Jul 19, 2008
Actually I am reapplying for a study permit. I submitted my documents on the 2nd of June, exactly 3 months to my start date. I was denied a visa for the Jan session. I did the Interview and medicals. I was denied when i couldn't provide some financial documents that were requested after the interview. This time I provided them all required documents. I hope I get a positive reply at least next week.

@yomex4ever

Auch that hurts. goodluck with the application. This waiting for almost 56 days na waoh. I have not contacted them though but i will reserve my energy for the last week of july when i intend to pay them a visit.
Re: Travelling To Canada by igbogolo: 7:01pm On Jul 19, 2008
@yomex
what financial doculents did the embassy request for at the interview?
Re: Travelling To Canada by yomex4ever: 9:25pm On Jul 19, 2008
She asked me to bring additional bank statements and tax clearance later before I could be given my medical form. My sponsor wasn't around during the period, so I emailed them that I couldn't bring some documents. I was then told to pick up my medical form after a while. I guess they were suspicious because it was taking too long for me to bring the documents because I knew they wanted to give me. Once you do you medicals the ball is in the court of the applicant.

It is very important that your bank statement shows you have the financial capability to finance your stay in Canada.

thats scary. So u are certain nothing will happen to the documents?? what if it gets lost or damaged on transit??
I will have to wait till 28th. If I get no response from them before then I will go to the embassy to enquire. My class starts in august 28 with a week orientation. and I learnt the orientation is compulsory. I only hope and pray for the best this week.
Re: Travelling To Canada by aydewale: 7:50am On Jul 20, 2008

I understand how u feel. I am in a mix too. i have admission to dundee for something similar but this long wait is the one I dont understand.
Dont be weary or give up now. Im sure something good will come out of this. So when do u suggest we pay them a visit? If our program is for august ending, by now they should have said something to us. i have the feeling its gonna this week so lets brace up and be optimistic ok?

Your application could be turned down if you didn't apply with originals. If you are lucky, they will request for an interview and tell you to bring the originals. I think you should read the instructions again.
Re: Travelling To Canada by igbogolo: 12:56pm On Jul 20, 2008
@ yomex
Please how old are you? I learnt that younger females are always considered before older males. Am 28 years.
I did apply with my originals. My last application was with photocopies. I reckoned that since they request 3 months to process that I dont need to apply with the originals.I even learnt that photocopies submitted should be certified/notarized. My application was returned in 3 weeks. That was july last year.
Am only a bit apprehensive because this is actually the first time I will be applying with my original documents. there will always be this issue of safety and security of original documents.
