Thinking doesnt mean that you exist. Infact, you might just be a cyborg programmed to simulate reality.
So this cyborg can simulate reality without existing?

You could be just organic matter submerged in electrolyte and wires inside some cage somewhere.
The non-existent invisible organic matter submerged in non-existent electrolyte with invisible non-existent wires sticking out of it. And all these happen in an invisible cage in a place that doesn't exist.

You are definitely a logic dunce.

What is the difference between a dream and reality? None, apart from the fact that you wake up from the dream. Imagine the horror of a never ending dream
which of them doesn't exist? the dream or the reality?

You should have asked what kind of existence we are talking about.

You existing as a human being and reality. Note that we were talking about the nature of reality.

You being organic matter in a test tube is different from you existing as a human being with arms and leags and a functioning brain.

Logicboy. For someone who prides himself in logic, so much so that he adopted a moniker to reflect it, this thread betrays ur lack of it. I dont know what has happened to u. It seems u are beginning to lose ur touch. It would appear that ur constant squabbles with christians and theists (whether dumb or smart) have left u all the worse for the wear intellectually. Now u are just clawing at straws and making atheists look bad. You obviously didnt think things through before starting this thread.
Ur argument here does not show that there is no God. What u have shown instead is that the human perception and view is limited at best and therefore God may not be as we imagined. And to further buttress ur points, u have filled this thread with "What-if" scenarios in all ur arguments. Yet u forget that it is that same "What-if" that give MOST people a reason to believe in a creator: the need for self-preservation even in the afterlife.
As a deist, I can only tell u this: for as long as u cannot prove conclusively that there is no God, people have a right to believe whatever they want. And when their belief is antithetical to urs, u cant take a moral highground and try to fault them for their beliefs (except of course when it involves some fairytales written in some bronze age book).

This is what happens when you put personal bias infront of your argument.

Who said this is about disproving god?

The question in the op is actually a christian "whatif" question to atheists.

I simply turned it around and showed that it presents a more troubling problem for theists-

Your understanding of god could simply be an illusion if you accept that you cant prove your reality isnt an illusion.

Simple point for wise minds.

@Logicboy I thought I was only one that had these thoughts too in times past; excluding the “God” part though. God is an exogenous factor that I have learnt never to dispute.

I normally don’t comment on forums but I enjoy your arguments they are quite sound though sometimes when you are driven into the defensive corner you derail from logical reasoning which you profess to up-hold; that’s ok its happens to everyone. No argument *in itself* is perfect, if it were there would be absolutely no cause for a debate.

Sometimes the way you tender your arguments it seem you are willing to accept the existence of a “God” or “a metaphysical being that exerts power over humans" if the opposition party can provide irrefutable evidence that support their claims (this shows a degree of open mindedness). Though I must confess a concrete “physical” evidence for the “spiritual” does not quite ascribe to the rule of logical reasoning;

Being that A is not equal B
With A containing no property of B
Therefore A is mutually exclusive of B

We still have to set-out in the physical to seek answers to the spiritual (not a easy task, its pain-taking)

Other times you make it seem like you not actually looking for an answer to the “God?” question. Uploading post after post on it making it seem like its a thing of leisure, something you enjoy doing. Something you would rather talk about on nairaland or you enjoy discussing with people rather set-out to find the answer for yourself.

I once heard a true life story of a Jewish scholar, quite a respectable man. who claimed to have spent over 12 years or so (i cant remember his name or the details) researching about Jesus. Well his conclusion was that “Jesus Christ is the Messiah”. Ever since he came about such a conclusion he just won’t stop proclaiming it, delusional guy.

Suggestion: well you don’t have that much time. Why don’t you dedicate at least 4 months to “truth seeking” (every good researcher takes his time to reach the conclusion). Well dying without accepting the TRUTH has terrible consequences (so I hear). You and I know the probability that somebody will die every day is 100% (looking at the last 500 years). The odds that that dead person would be you/me (a given person) is unpredictable, that is something to worry about. Mr.death can come knocking any day, any time, any where.

IF God exists and Hell/Jahannam actually exists and it is as eternal and fiery as the Christians/Muslims say, I don’t think you would want to end up there.

I can suggest four people that would be too happy to help during this months; @PAGAN_9ja @Advocate666 @maclatunji @goshen360, hoping to convert you to their …… you might not feel safe with one of them in particular (I don't know him, but I feel he could be a nice gal if you get to know him well, you should give him some credit, for @seun to bestow the royal MODship on him, that is something).

You should spend at least a month with each respectively, not sure if a month would be enough to absorb the intricacy of their spiritualism. Going to the shrine, meeting, mosque, and lastly church respectively while adhering to their instructions and advice, of course it would demand full participation in various activities on your part.

NOTE; don’t see as changing camp from “no God” to “God” camp, see yourself as a “researcher”. I personally don’t argue issues I have no fore-knowledge about, to do that I would be SUCHAFOOL.

The question of “God” is quite radical am not too sure if the above would suffice. I would rather have you take extreme measures, learn about “new age religion” go deep into it (astral travel scary ish), pay close attention to the teachings of sages (eg Lao Tzu, Sadhu Sundar Singh etc), look into the occult (try different demon summons; (I couldn’t go through with this one, the level of fear in the atmosphere was just too much to bear; even people in the surrounding area were filled with fear at the time, and they had no idea what I was trying to do) shouldn’t be a problem for you after all you don’t believe in God or any metaphysical being. Keep trying put your body and soul into it, maybe one day a demon might appear that is if they actually exist. Google would help you out with books on occult. Too bad I also didnt get to read the sixth and seventh books of moses.

Look up how to sell your soul to the devil (follow the instructions tentatively) after all the transaction can only be complete if “the devil” actually exists. Try out the spells. So many things to try out.

Finally get to my favourite part; the “Ouija board” though I must confess this is truly dangerous, many people; even famous people seem to warn against using it, demonic activities, items moving by themselves without any one touching them, spirit possession blah blah blah…… do you believe all these after all we are all delusional people. Why not get a real one for yourself (its quite cheap, you can easily get one online), lock yourself in a room and give it a spin. Be persistent, persistence is key in your search. Google would help you out with all this.

There are so many things to do, I guess that is why the way some people tender their argument makes me sad because it’s quite pathetic.

They argue like someone born and raised in a desert; he sits on the major thing he has seen all his life “heaps of sand” and bleats out “I know with a certain* certainty the whole world is exactly like this” defending his view to his last breath without going out across the world to see for himself.

(not referring to @Logicboy) Atheists to me are the purest true-seekers, but this new generation of them are just……..Lazy (not quite the adjective I need, I will manage it though). Lazy in thoughts (they don’t want to think) Lazy in action (the truth won’t come to you why don’t you go in search of it) they use actions of Buddhist, Christians, Muslims etc in their arguments forgetting this people are humans and their actions doesn’t affect the disposition of their respective “God”. Though some people do the strangest things for their "God", the fact remains that what is in question is not the people or actions it is the "God". Hence, they fail to look away from the people and go in search of the "metaphysical beign" instead and they don't have anything original they came across themselves *sigh*.

Those days atheist used to be open minded, make sound arguments, wonderful thinkers; I think they are still out there. It’s just seem I don’t cross paths with this category of atheist anymore.

Well to end this, I have seen so many things hmmm just telling you about them doesn't make any sense. For quicker results go in the "extreme" direction I pointed out, there thou shall find what thou seekest. am back to my own *heap of sand*, (though I don’t preach religion) I say with every boldness “JESUS CHRIST IS THE SAVIOUR, the only way, the truth and light” you don’t have to take my word for it. It’s MY conclusion. I will advice you to make haste and set sail for yours. Time is of the essence.

THE SIX BLIND MEN OF HINDOSTAN
It was six men of hindostan,
To learning much inclined,
Who went to see the elephant,
(Though all of them were blind);
That each by observation,
Might satisfy his mind.

The first approached the elephant,
.......Is very like a wall".

The second, feeling of his tusk,
.......Is very like a spear".

The third approached the animal
.......Is very like a snake".

The fourth stretched out his eager hand,
........Is very like a tree".

The fifth who chanced to have touch the ear,
.........Is very like a fan".

The sixth no sooner had begun,
.........Is like a rope"

And so these men of hindostan,
Disputed loud and long,
Each in his own opinion,
Exceeding stiff and strong,
Though each was partly in the right,
And each was partly wrong.

Good reasoning there.

Let us review the plot of the matrix

Humans make robots
Robots live with humans
A robot kills a human
Humans get angry with robots and kill some of them
Humans still discriminate against robots
Humans banish robots to an island
Robots turn the island into the most technologically advanced place on earth
The island's economy dominates the humans
The robots come to make peace with humans
Humans reject peace offerings (maybe because they feel that they created robots and therefore better)
Humans declare war on robots
Robots win the first battle with their advanced technology
Humans in desperation block out the sun by darkening the sky with some kind of atomic bomb
(Robots are all run on solar energy and so it was a good tactics)
Robots then had to use humans as energy source.
Robots win the war and put humans in capsules to harvest their energy for themseleves
Robots also induce hallucinations and simulations to the capsuled humans to keep them docile
===================================

Summary

The humans were the gods originally, creating the robots
This is really a bunch of contradictions if we are to compare it with the qualities your robots possess.
I don't know if some other person noticed or I'm 'as usual' going mad. Lb, please help me understand...
1. How come a human whom initially, you assumed to be fed capsules by the robots, their makers, now be the maker of these robots, their maker?
2. Lol. How can you banish your maker when actually you are a programmed software, a tool your maker can tanish at any time, even when viruses infect?
3. How does one make peace with what can be likened to his dreams, talk more, declaring war? Lol. Somebody needs a new drug.
4. Which sun, which solar energy-the capsules fed by the robots, a simulated reality. Can reality be induced?
